You And God

God is eternal. He is without start or end.

Psalm 90:2 NASB95
2 Before the mountains were born Or You gave birth to the earth and the world, Even from everlasting to everlasting, You are God.

God is absolutely holy. He is set apart from everything that exists; there is no other like Him.

Isaiah 6:3 KJV 1900
3 And one cried unto another, and said, Holy, holy, holy, is the Lord of hosts: The whole earth is full of his glory.

God is completely sinless. He cannot allow sin in His presence.

Habakkuk 1:13 NKJV
13 You are of purer eyes than to behold evil, And cannot look on wickedness. Why do You look on those who deal treacherously, And hold Your tongue when the wicked devours A person more righteous than he?

God is all-powerful

Psalm 86:10 KJV 1900
10 For thou art great, and doest wondrous things: Thou art God alone.

Thankfully, God is also good

Psalm 86:5 KJV 1900
5 For thou, Lord, art good, and ready to forgive; And plenteous in mercy unto all them that call upon thee.

God is absolutely just. Everything He does is right.

Psalm 145:17 ESV
17 The Lord is righteous in all his ways and kind in all his works.

God is love

1 John 4:8 KJV 1900
8 He that loveth not knoweth not God; for God is love.

Acknowledging God as the Creator of all is essential to everything else Scripture teaches.

Genesis 1:1 KJV 1900
1 In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth.
Genesis 1:1 is the first verse of the Bible. What does it say?
Genesis 1:27 NKJV
27 So God created man in His own image; in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them.
According to Genesis 1:27, from where did you come?
John 1:3 KJV 1900
3 All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made.
Psalm 19:1 ESV
1 The heavens declare the glory of God, and the sky above proclaims his handiwork.
Romans 1:20 NASB95
20 For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes, His eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly seen, being understood through what has been made, so that they are without excuse.
Romans 1:20 concludes by saying that those who reject God and His creative power are “without excuse.”

The Biblical teaching of creation has two implications that are very great for you personally

1. Because God made you, you are accountable to Him.

Revelation 20:12 NKJV
12 And I saw the dead, small and great, standing before God, and books were opened. And another book was opened, which is the Book of Life. And the dead were judged according to their works, by the things which were written in the books.
According to Revelation 20:12, both the “small and great” will appear before God to be judged. Who does that indicate will give answer to God?
Hebrews 9:27 KJV 1900
27 And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment:
How does Hebrews 9:27 reinforce this fact?

2. Because God made you, He owns you.

Colossians 1:16 NASB95
16 For by Him all things were created, both in the heavens and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities—all things have been created through Him and for Him.
What does Colossians 1:16 mean when it says all things were created through Him and for Him?
Revelation 4:11 NASB95
11 “Worthy are You, our Lord and our God, to receive glory and honor and power; for You created all things, and because of Your will they existed, and were created.”
Why is God worthy to receive worship in Revelation 4:11?
For this verse, why do you think God created you?
Do we fulfill God’s purpose for us?
Genesis 3:6 KJV 1900
6 And when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree to be desired to make one wise, she took of the fruit thereof, and did eat, and gave also unto her husband with her; and he did eat.
Romans 5:12 NASB95
12 Therefore, just as through one man sin entered into the world, and death through sin, and so death spread to all men, because all sinned—
Psalm 51:5 NKJV
5 Behold, I was brought forth in iniquity, And in sin my mother conceived me.

You and Sin

Romans 3:10–11 NASB95
10 as it is written, There is none righteous, not even one; 11 There is none who understands, There is none who seeks for God;
Explain Romans 3.10-11 in your own words
Romans 3:23 KJV 1900
23 For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;
According to Rom 3.23 how many people have sinned?
1 John 3:4 KJV 1900
4 Whosoever committeth sin transgresseth also the law: for sin is the transgression of the law.
I John 3:4 defines sin as breaking God’s law. What is God’s law?
1 Corinthians 6:9–11 ESV
9 Or do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: neither the sexually immoral, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor men who practice homosexuality, 10 nor thieves, nor the greedy, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God. 11 And such were some of you. But you were washed, you were sanctified, you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God.
Give some examples of sin from I Corinthians 6:9-11.
Jeremiah 17:9 KJV 1900
9 The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it?
How does Jeremiah 17:9 describe the heart?
Isaiah 53:6 KJV 1900
6 All we like sheep have gone astray; We have turned every one to his own way; And the Lord hath laid on him the iniquity of us all.
Isaiah 59:2 NASB95
2 But your iniquities have made a separation between you and your God, And your sins have hidden His face from you so that He does not hear.
Revelation 21:27 NKJV
27 But there shall by no means enter it anything that defiles, or causes an abomination or a lie, but only those who are written in the Lamb’s Book of Life.
Romans 6:23 KJV 1900
23 For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.
Romans 6:23 is a very important verse regarding you and your sin. It says that “the wages of sin is death.” What is a wage?
According to this verse, because of you sin, what do you deserve?
Genesis 2:17 KJV 1900
17 But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die.
Ephesians 2:1 NASB95
1 And you were dead in your trespasses and sins,
Revelation 20:14–15 NASB95
14 Then death and Hades were thrown into the lake of fire. This is the second death, the lake of fire. 15 And if anyone’s name was not found written in the book of life, he was thrown into the lake of fire.
Revelation 21:8 ESV
8 But as for the cowardly, the faithless, the detestable, as for murderers, the sexually immoral, sorcerers, idolaters, and all liars, their portion will be in the lake that burns with fire and sulfur, which is the second death.”
How does the Bible describe permanent, eternal condemnation?
Romans 6:23 KJV 1900
23 For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.
Romans 6:23 teaches that eternal life with God is a “gift.” Can you earn a gift?
Ephesians 2:8–9 NKJV
8 For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, 9 not of works, lest anyone should boast.
Read Ephesians 2:8-9. The Bible teaches that salvation is by grace (undeserved kindness) through faith (trust in God). What does verse 9 say? What does it mean?
What are some things that people do to try to earn heaven?
