Intro: Another installment in our series from the Psalms. This Psalm is inspirational for the armies of Israel marching to battle. It is a combination of the conclusions of two other Psalms – 57:7-11 & 60:5-12. The former is an appeal from personal attack, and the latter is an appeal to God in light of a national defeat. Each begins with a desperate description of the current troubles, which this Psalm lacks.

I) Giving praise to God – vs.1-5

He sings praises to God with the inner man (57:8 – awake my glory); and musical instruments to awake the dawn (arises with rejoicing)
Praising God before all the nations – this is an effective form of evangelism to give praise to God for His blessings
Prayer that God will be exalted above the heavens and the earth –
Romans 1:25 ESV
because they exchanged the truth about God for a lie and worshiped and served the creature rather than the Creator, who is blessed forever! Amen.

II) God’s power over the nations – vs.6-13

God delivers His beloved one(s) – ;
Psalm 16:8–11 ESV
I have set the Lord always before me; because he is at my right hand, I shall not be shaken. Therefore my heart is glad, and my whole being rejoices; my flesh also dwells secure. For you will not abandon my soul to Sheol, or let your holy one see corruption. You make known to me the path of life; in your presence there is fullness of joy; at your right hand are pleasures forevermore.
Acts 2:25–28 ESV
For David says concerning him, “ ‘I saw the Lord always before me, for he is at my right hand that I may not be shaken; therefore my heart was glad, and my tongue rejoiced; my flesh also will dwell in hope. For you will not abandon my soul to Hades, or let your Holy One see corruption. You have made known to me the paths of life; you will make me full of gladness with your presence.’
God exults over what belongs to Him, the possessions of Israel driven out by the hand of God; and His power over the antagonists of Israel, Moab, Edom, and Philistia
Prayer that God will lead the armies of Israel against Edom, since He rejected them the first time (seems unlikely this is another historical reference, but more a reference back to what God had done before)
Expecting that man (armies and weapons of men) could be their salvation was vain, but appealing to God was not
When we depend on God, we are all valiant warriors –
Ephesians 6:10–12 ESV
Finally, be strong in the Lord and in the strength of his might. Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the schemes of the devil. For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers over this present darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places.
Concl: Let this Psalm be an inspiration to you as you battle the enemies of God in this world.
