Thank God For You

Welcome to Old Fashioned Sunday. This is a day to enjoy fellowship with one another, worship God and enjoy our relationships with friends and family.
A. This morning we will look at the Apostle Pauls tender relationship with the Christians at Philippi.
He thanked God every time he thought of them
We could use that kind of love today
B. Wrong relationships flourish in many churches today
People who cannot forgive
Little groups gather and grumble
The church becomes powerless because of lack of love
C. Today we will look at lessons from Paul’s statement of thanksgiving

There is Value in Remembering (v. 3)

Philippians 1:1–3 NKJV
1 Paul and Timothy, bondservants of Jesus Christ, To all the saints in Christ Jesus who are in Philippi, with the bishops and deacons: 2 Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ. 3 I thank my God upon every remembrance of you,
A. God has made us with the ability to remember.
B. We are given instructions to remember in the Bible.
“Remember now your Creator” (Ecc. 12:1)
“Remember Lot’s wife” (Luke 17:32)
“This do in remembrance of me” (1 Cor. 11)
“Remember therefore from where you have fallen” (Rev. 2:5)
C. Paul remembers Philippi
A little group by a river and Lydia’s conversion
The Philippian jailor
D. Remember high points in your Christian life
The day you came to know Jesus
The time you fully surrendered to the Lord
Was there ever a better day?

No perfect pastors
C. Paul refused to dwell on the negatives about these people
Were there gossipers? PROBABLY!
Were there troublemakers there? PROBABLY!
But Paul did not focus on these negative characteristics
D. Paul thought about those who were faithful
Some cared and shared
Some gave sacrificially
Some witnessed fervently
Paul remembered these things
E. What do you think about when you think of your brothers and sisters in Christ?
F. Are you thankful?

The Value of Expressing Appreciation to Those We Love
