The 33 Trailer
The 33 is based off a real-life disaster in a mine in Chile from 2010. 33 miners were trapped for 2 months! They all survived after being rescued! Incredible story!
I love rescue stories. They are our stories!
Last week, Moses saved Israel from Egypt. Tonight, Jesus became a savior like Moses. Jesus came to rescue us.
Did you know you needed rescued?
We too have a sin problem
Sin is breaking God’s law.
Mark 12:30–31 NIV
30 Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.’ 31 The second is this: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ There is no commandment greater than these.”
All of us have probably failed to maintain God’s law.
Romans 3:23 NIV
23 for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,
We fall short. We mess up. We sin.
Romans 6:23 NIV
23 For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.
First part. Sin is so serious the consequence is death.
Eventual death in life
Eternal death in afterlife.
separation from all that is good, because it is separation from God.
Jesus came to be the new Moses to rescue us from slavery to sin
Romans 5:12 NIV
12 Therefore, just as sin entered the world through one man, and death through sin, and in this way death came to all people, because all sinned—
Our world is messed up. It’s adrift. We’re like those miners. Trapped under the consequences of our own doing.
Romans 5:17 NIV
17 For if, by the trespass of the one man, death reigned through that one man, how much more will those who receive God’s abundant provision of grace and of the gift of righteousness reign in life through the one man, Jesus Christ!
Jesus came and made a way for us to be Saved. He undoes the damage our sin has wreaked on us and our world.
John 3:16 NIV
16 For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.
Do you see how much God loves you! Do you see the good news. I’m not here at church telling you everything is fine in your life. That it’s normal. It’s broken. But I want to show you how it can be fine! Jesus is our salvation!
The next two weeks we will look at this! 1 - How Jesus Saves. 2 - What do we do to be saved?
Jess is our savior. He is our rescuer. He came to make us SAVED.
