INTRODUCTION:
1. The moon and the Christian have many things in common.
A. The moon’s surface is dark without the light of the sun shinning on it.
B. The moon can only reflect light because it has no light of it’s own.
C. The moon does not create light.
C. The moon’s purpose is to reflect the light of the sun.
BODY:
1. The moon’s surface is dark without the light of the sun shinning on it.
1 John 1:5–7 NKJV
5 This is the message which we have heard from Him and declare to you, that God is light and in Him is no darkness at all. 6 If we say that we have fellowship with Him, and walk in darkness, we lie and do not practice the truth. 7 But if we walk in the light as He is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanses us from all sin.
1 John 1.5-
A. Only the side of the moon that is in the path of the sun is out of darkness.
1. We have to be in the path of God’s light to be out of darkness.
Matthew 7:13–14 NKJV
13 “Enter by the narrow gate; for wide is the gate and broad is the way that leads to destruction, and there are many who go in by it. 14 Because narrow is the gate and difficult is the way which leads to life, and there are few who find it.
2. Our path is dark without God’s light.
Psalm 119:105 NKJV
105 Your word is a lamp to my feet And a light to my path.
3. Our life is dark with out the light of the Son.
Romans 3:10 NKJV
10 As it is written: “There is none righteous, no, not one;
John 8:12 NKJV
12 Then Jesus spoke to them again, saying, “I am the light of the world. He who follows Me shall not walk in darkness, but have the light of life.”
2. The moon can only reflect the light of the sun because it has no light of it’s own.
A. Apart from the sun the moon has no light.
1. Apart from God we have no light to shine.
John 15:5–8 NKJV
5 “I am the vine, you are the branches. He who abides in Me, and I in him, bears much fruit; for without Me you can do nothing. 6 If anyone does not abide in Me, he is cast out as a branch and is withered; and they gather them and throw them into the fire, and they are burned. 7 If you abide in Me, and My words abide in you, you will ask what you desire, and it shall be done for you. 8 By this My Father is glorified, that you bear much fruit; so you will be My disciples.
Jn 15.5-
John 15:5 NKJV
5 “I am the vine, you are the branches. He who abides in Me, and I in him, bears much fruit; for without Me you can do nothing.
A. But if we abide in Christ we are the light of the world and God is glorified through our works.
Matthew 5:14–16 NKJV
14 “You are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hidden. 15 Nor do they light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a lampstand, and it gives light to all who are in the house. 16 Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven.
B. We must allow God’s righteousness to reflect in our lives because we have none of our own.
Romans 3:10–11 NKJV
10 As it is written: “There is none righteous, no, not one; 11 There is none who understands; There is none who seeks after God.
3. The moon’s purpose is to reflect the light of the sun.
A. Days when the moon is not visible are very dark because the moon’s reflected light shines through the darkness to light the night sky.
B. We were created to reflect the light of the Son by our good works to the world.
Ephesians 2:10 NKJV
10 For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them.
1. The days of the world be like night and very dark with out the light of the Son reflected through the Christian.
CONCLUSION:
1. Please Sing with me the children’s song “This little light of mine”.
A. The moon’s surface is dark without the light of the sun shinning on it.
B. The moon can only reflect light because it has no light of it’s own.
C. The moon’s purpose is to reflect the light of the sun.
1. Let be like the moon and reflect the light of the sun and light up the world even when darkness is trying to take over.
