We have come to the end of a long journey.
This journey has brought us through the Revelation of Jesus Christ which was recorded for us by the Apostle John as he was imprisoned upon the Isle of Patmos.
As he came to the end of recording this revelation, I’m sure that John felt overwhelmed.
Turn to and read Revelation 22:6-14.
Behold, I Come Quickly
After all that he had seen and recorded, there was only one thing left for John to do…anticipate His coming.
Congregational Song: Jesus is Coming Again! (one verse)
Turn to and read 1 Corinthians 11:23-26.
Here is the connection between Revelation chapter 22 and the Lord’s Supper:
When we participate in the Lord’s Supper, we proclaim the sacrificial death of Jesus Christ but it is also a reminder that Jesus Christ will come again!
“I will come again...”
I don’t know about you but I can become so busy and wrapped up in the things of this life that it’s good to have a specific opportunity to stop, remember Christ’s sacrificial death, and to be reminded that Jesus will come again.
Coming again, Coming again,
May be morning, may be noon,
May be evening and may be soon!
Coming again, Coming again;
O what a wonderful day it will be -
Jesus is coming again!
Behold, I Come Quickly
I’m sure that John thought, “Ok.
What do I need to while I wait?
I can’t just sit around and stare up into the sky!”
Be Faithful to God’s Word
You’ll recall that this is how the book of the Revelation began...
How can we be faithful to God’s Word?
Read God’s Word.
Well-known Bible teacher, J. Vernon McGee said...
Read the Word of God.
Do you want to know what the Bible has to say? Read the Bible.
Over and above what any teacher may give you, it is all-important to read for yourself what the Bible has to say.
I don’t believe that we can ever be challenged enough to simply read God’s Word!
Study God’s Word.
Memorize God’s Word.
Meditate Upon God’s Word.
Obey God’s Word.
As we leave the book of the Revelation of Jesus Christ for now, we should be renewed in our commitment to anticipate the coming of the Lord and we should also be renewed in our commitment to be faithful to God’s Word.
