DISTRICT SUPERINTENDENT’S REPORT (May 2019 to November 2019)

General Superintendent in Jurisdiction, Dr David Busic,, Africa Region Director, Dr, D Gomis, Field Strategy Coordinator, Dr Musawenkosi Kunene, Pastors, Delegates and Visitors, I want to greet you all in the strong name of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.
I am grateful to present this 31st annual district report for the half year, 2018.
I was privileged and honoured to be appointed by JGS, Dr Carla Sunberg as the interim DS for Botswana for the next 2 years. I have 18 months left of that 2 years which is not much time. I started by having conversations with the District Advisory Board and previous DS’s (Rev LG Chikova, Rev Boyce Ramisilo and Rev Gossaye Hambda). These conversations helped me to look toward the future. Our vision statement
Develop progressive missional churches, is a good starting point for us as a District.
I was able to visit the following churches as further help:Gabarone North and South, Otse, Lobatse, Pitsane, L-West, Kopong, Bokaa, Mahalapye and Moshupa. I could start to identify some of the key areas where I need to assist in helping our local churches and our District at large.
We were able to host a Youth Mission Team from the US to help with the cleaning of the District Centre and also to be a part of the NYI Leadership Training Weekend.
Regular DAB meetings were held and I want to thank especially Rev Oboy Pheko, Rev Gladys, Mr Ketshepile Mooketsi and Mrs, Shonny Mautla for the constant support and advice.
I also want to insert the following from the previous DS, Rev Boyce Ramisilo

Challenges

The Botswana district is still running short of lay pastors and trained pastors. There is minimal if not none development of pastors that can be used in district assignments from local churches. The District does not have membership but rather it depends on local churches to raise such people. The DAB does not have funds and resources to run its daily duties and the inflow of budgets is not sufficient to keep up the needs of the district. Every year we have this numbers going down.
Looking at 2020
Stemming from the meetings with various people, we will focus on the following for the coming year:
1.The launching of what is Termed: “DISTRICT WORKFORCE” team. This is the team elected at the Convention. We will embark on training this group to position them for:
a.Responding to events

c.Be the executing team of directives
2.Aggressive educational training of Clergy and Lay

3.Have more conversations with Licensed Ministers (not just once a year)
4.Inviting Local Licensed Ministers to those conversations to continue to make the connection
5.Operating in the space of giftedness
6.Intensifying awareness and presence in churches (Workforce Team)
7.Establish of an Evangelism Team

#wearetogether

I cannot do this on my own and neither is it depended on the DAB or the Pastors of the District ONLY….we can only achieve what we set out when we work a unit…as a Body of Christ.
I want to thank God for this opportunity to serve you, the church for trusting me with this enormous task, my
Yours in Christ
