Overview

(1) the people’s intercession for the king (vv. 1–5)

(2) the king’s anticipation of victory (vv. 6–8)

(3) concluding prayer of the whole congregation.

May the Lord answer you in the day of trouble!

Dependence upon the Lord – in the day of calamity. !

            * Too often we trust in our own strength and power

• When trouble presents itself, what is our first reaction?

            * When we prosper we tend to forget God and his blessings.

            * We forget to acknowledge where the blessedness originates.

May the name of the God of Jacob set you securely on high!

• not any God, but the personal God of Jacob.

The picture of being placed up in a fortress, untouchable !

May He send you help from the sanctuary And support you from Zion!

• The center of strength - ie the White House
• presential pardon

May He remember all your meal offerings And find your burnt offering acceptable! Selah.

His power is evident in those who are in fellowship with him. He desires to work through humans to accomplish his will. The Selah gives a pause for sacrifices. God blesses us as we live in obedience to him!

May He grant you your heart’s desire And fulfill all your counsel!

A heart, mind, and spirit in tune with the revelation of God.

We will sing for joy over your victory, And in the name of our God we will set up our banners. May the Lord fulfill all your petitions.

The battle and the victory are the Lords!

• He desires to use human instruments

- Plant them, i.e., on the enemy’s forts and strongholds

Now I know that the Lord saves His anointed; He will answer him from His holy heaven With the saving strength of His right hand.

Total trust and dependence!

Some boast in chariots and some in horses, But we will boast in the name of the Lord, our God.

• Trust in what God will perform!
