The Aftermath of Cheating!

Leviticus 20:10

John 8:3-11

The book of Proverbs warns of the consequences of adultery:

loss of honor and strength

(),9  lest you give your honor to others and your years to the merciless,10  lest strangers take their fill of your strength, and your labors go to the house of a foreigner,11  and at the end of your life you groan, when your flesh and body are consumed,

A ruined reputation

(), 14  I am at the brink of utter ruin in the assembled congregation.”

Bondage and death

(), 22  The iniquities of the wicked ensnare him, and he is held fast in the cords of his sin.

23  He dies for lack of discipline, and because of his great folly he is led astray.

Self-destruction

(), 32  He who commits adultery lacks sense; he who does it destroys himself.

The vengeance of a jealous husband

().

(ESV): 34 For jealousy makes a man furious, and he will not spare when he takes revenge.“

If you play with fire, You will get burnt!!!

().

27 Can a man carry fire next to his chest and his clothes not be burned?

28 Or can one walk on hot coals and his feet not be scorched?

29 So is he who goes in to his neighbor’s wife; none who touches her will go unpunished.

The Proverbs also outline the character of the adulterer:

This individual is called simple and senseless () 7 and I have seen among the simple, I have perceived among the youths, a young man lacking sense,

An Adulterous individual is compared to an animal caught in a snare and then slaughtered ().

22 All at once he follows her, as an ox goes to the slaughter, or as a stag is caught fast 23 till an arrow pierces its liver; as a bird rushes into a snare; he does not know that it will cost him his life.“

A man who commits adultery has no sense; / whoever does so destroys himself” ().

32 He who commits adultery lacks sense; he who does it destroys himself.

The proverb writer conclusion about adulterous individual:().

26 for many a victim has she laid low, and all her slain are a mighty throng.

27 Her house is the way to Sheol, going down to the chambers of death.

The Aftermath

Trust is Broken/Maybe even Destroyed: Trust is a key ingredient to every Healthy Marriage.

An individual going into a marriage without trust, Is like a fireman going to put out a House fire without water.

If a marriage doesn’t have trust, that marriage can expect Chaos!!! Whoever has the trust issue will alway have their guards up.

Anger/Rage may be increased: When an individual has been hurt by someone the trusted blindly, it can cause them to respond with Anger and Rage.

There have been individuals that have said they blackout and when it was all over some was left injured or dead.

Self-esteem is lowered: Most individuals who are victims of cheating, at some point begin to blame themselves, which may then cause them to find comfort in an abusive behavior like: Over Eating, Alcohol, Drugs, or may cheat themselves.

Children/Family are effected: Integrity of the whole family is lowered.

Children often times suffer silently and, blame themselves, for something they had no control over.

Sometimes the trauma of the act spills over into the rest of their lives in the forms of various dysfunctions in their own families.

Dysfu nctional behaviors are taught: Men and women have grown up in households where there was infidelity and because of what they saw (on the surface) and experienced.

It appeared everything was alright because mom and dad are still together.

What they didn’t know was there was still internal bleeding in the home.

Unhealthy Future Relationships: If an individual who was cheated on in the past enters into a second marriage, that marriage could suffer repercussions stemming from the previous marriage if the victimized individual has not healed.

STD’s/Pregnancy: Some cheaters have been exposed by STD’s because they didn’t know they were being cheated on too.

Then there is the stabbing and twisting of the knife!

A child that’s conceived from the infidelity.

Sickness/Mental Stability: There have been individual who have suffered with Severe Depression, and may have had thoughts of suicide.

Divorce: Divorce is always the devils intent.
