Last week Isaiah pointed out some startling facts about the Messiah:
Isaiah 9:6–7 NASB95
For a child will be born to us, a son will be given to us; And the government will rest on His shoulders; And His name will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Eternal Father, Prince of Peace. There will be no end to the increase of His government or of peace, On the throne of David and over his kingdom, To establish it and to uphold it with justice and righteousness From then on and forevermore. The zeal of the Lord of hosts will accomplish this.
Isaiah
The Messiah will come as God-Man (v.6) He will be both 100% man and 100% God. Jesus is the incarnation of God! The phrase “a son will be given to us is consistent to the famous Gospel verse “for God so love the world that HE GAVE...” ().
Wonderful Counselor
The Messiah will come to govern. For the government to be on His shoulders indicates that He will indisputably govern His people and the rest of the world. He will rule as the King of kings and Lord of lords.
Mighty God
He will have four descriptive names, adequate to describe the Messiah name who will reign in superiority.
He will rule as the King of kings and Lord of lords.
Eternal Father
Leadership Ministries Worldwide. (2005). Isaiah (Chapters 1–35) (Vol. I, p. 127). Chattanooga, TN: Leadership Ministries Worldwide.
The radiance of His glory and the exact representation of His nature, and upholds all things by the word of His power. When He had made purification of sins, He sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high
Wonderful Counselor - having gone through what man goes through on this Earth then He knows what it is like to endure pain, to feel hunger and thirst, to experience poverty and homelessness. He knows the feeling of being rejected—even by His own family—and of being forsaken and left all alone. Such are the experiences that confront so many of us as we live out our lives. Thus when we need a counselor, Christ is the one Person who can feel what we feel, and He stands before us as the Wonderful Counselor. He is the one Person who can comfort us, who can give us solid guidance about how to handle the problems facing us. As the Wonderful Counselor, Christ can guide, encourage, and strengthen us to conquer whatever trial or temptation confronts us. As the Wonderful Counselor, He will teach us how to walk victoriously throughout life.

Mighty God - the messiah will be divine. As God, He will do things that no one else could conceivably do. As mighty God He is able to save any who cry out to Him for salvation. He has the power to rescue anyone in any situation, trial or temptation. He has the power to deliver anyone and everyone from any bondage of oppression. He is:
Prince of peace
OMNIPOTENT - all-powerful
As God, He will do things that no one else could conceivably do
OMNISCIENT - all-knowing
OMNIPRESENT - present everywhere at the same time
Everlasting Father - as a parent loves his children so will the Father love us as His children. With love comes the idea of CARE, NURTURE, NOURISH, COMFORT, ASSURE, INSTRUCT, INFORM, LEAD, GUIDE, CORRECT AND DISCIPLINE.
Leadership Ministries Worldwide. (2005). Isaiah (Chapters 1–35) (Vol. I, p. 127). Chattanooga, TN: Leadership Ministries Worldwide.
IMPORTANT POINT: How can the Messiah, the Son, be called the EVERLASTING FATHER?
ACCORDING TO THE NELSON STUDY BIBLE: Everlasting Father describes a King and Father who provides for and protects His people forever (; ). Thus the word Father is used here of the Savior’s role as an ideal king.
Matthew 11:27–30 NASB95
“All things have been handed over to Me by My Father; and no one knows the Son except the Father; nor does anyone know the Father except the Son, and anyone to whom the Son wills to reveal Him. “Come to Me, all who are weary and heavy-laden, and I will give you rest. “Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. “For My yoke is easy and My burden is light.”
Leadership Ministries Worldwide. (2005). Isaiah (Chapters 1–35) (Vol. I, p. 128). Chattanooga, TN: Leadership Ministries Worldwide.
c. PRINCE OF PEACE - As the promised savior of the Word He will bring peace to to the human heart and peace among the nations. Note the word Prince, which indicates that the Messiah will be a ruler who governs in peace. He will achieve His purposes through methods of peace and carry on His work in a peaceful spirit. The people over whom He rules will be a people of peace. While the Messiah rules upon the earth, there will be no more war, brutality, divisiveness, prejudice, hatred, or bitterness. Peace will reign throughout the world.
d. The Messiah will return to this world to establish God’s kingdom on earth (v. 7). As God promised, the Messiah will rule in peace, sitting on David’s throne; and He will rule forever (see outline and note—, esp. v. 13 for more discussion). The great promise given to David concerning the Messiah was already well-known throughout Israel when Isaiah made this prophecy. Sitting eternally upon the throne of David, the Messiah will establish perfect justice and righteousness on earth. Imagine a world in which there is no lawlessness or violence, no prejudice or intolerance, no injustice or unrighteousness whatsoever. This will be the world ushered in by the coming of the Messiah, when He comes to sit upon the throne of David forever.
e. The Messiah’s work will be guaranteed by God’s zeal. A burning passion floods the heart of God, a passion to make absolutely sure the promise of the coming Messiah is fulfilled.

TODAY’s TEXT

Hebrews 1:1–3 NASB95
God, after He spoke long ago to the fathers in the prophets in many portions and in many ways, in these last days has spoken to us in His Son, whom He appointed heir of all things, through whom also He made the world. And He is the radiance of His glory and the exact representation of His nature, and upholds all things by the word of His power. When He had made purification of sins, He sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high,
The Messiah will return to this world to establish God’s kingdom on earth (v. 7)

INTRODUCTION

Men have usually looked upon the prophets of religion as great men of God. They have seen the prophets of God …
men have usually looked upon the prophets of religion as great men of God. They have seen the prophets of God …
• as very special servants of God.
• as men who had a special message from God.
• as men who could tell others how to become acceptable to God.
• as men who could tell others how to live and please God.
The prophets of the Old Testament were great men of God. They were men to whom God spoke and to whom God entrusted His message. But as great as the prophets of the Old Testament were, they fade into insignificance when compared to Jesus Christ, God’s very own Son. Jesus Christ is far, far Superior to the prophets. In what manner is He superior?

HOW?

1. Jesus Christ is the supreme spokesman (v. 1).
2. Jesus Christ is the appointed Heir of all things (v. 2).
3. Jesus Christ is the Creator and Maker of the universe (v. 2).
4. Jesus Christ is the very glory of God Himself (v. 3).
5. Jesus Christ is the exact representation of God (v. 3).
6. Jesus Christ is the Sustainer of the universe (v. 3).
7. Jesus Christ is the Redeemer of mankind (v. 3).
8. Jesus Christ is the exalted Lord and Mediator (v. 3).

1. As the Supreme Spokesman (v. 1)

The supreme spokesman of God making Him superior to the prophets.
He got face to face with Man and not just ruling and sending messages from a distant far away place. He got down and dirty without being dirty. He was without sin.
What are some of the things He has given us? He has given us the wonderful words of life and of deliverance. He has told us exactly how to conquer the trials, temptations, corruption, and death of this world.
He has given us the wonderful words of life and of deliverance. He has told us exactly how to conquer the trials, temptations, corruption, and death of this world.
In ancient times how did God speak to man? He did not reveal to one man everything that He wanted man to know. There was a gradual unveiling to man concerning the Messiah.
EXAMPLES
⇒ God spoke to Adam and told him that the Savior would come from the seed of the woman ().
⇒ God spoke to Adam and told him that the Savior would come from the seed of the woman ().
⇒ God spoke to Abraham and told him that the Savior would come from his seed (; ; ).
⇒ God spoke to Jacob and told him that the Savior would come through the tribe of Judah ().
⇒ God spoke to David and told him that the Savior would be born of his house ().
⇒ God spoke to Micah and told him that the Savior would be born at Bethlehem (Mi. 5:2).
⇒ God spoke to Isaiah and told him that the Savior would be born of a virgin ().
NOTE ALSO the different ways in which God spoke to the prophets:
⇒ He spoke to Moses in a great thundering voice in the midst of a storm (; ).
⇒ He spoke to Moses in a great thundering voice in the midst of a storm (; ).
⇒ He spoke to Elijah by a still small voice ().
⇒ He spoke to Isaiah in a vision ().
⇒ He spoke to Samuel in a dream ()

On the other hand His full revelation is found in His Son. v.2 states “in these last days has spoken to us in His Son...”
in these last days has spoken to us in His Son
This is the astounding declaration of this passage: God has sent His Son to proclaim His Word to men.
New American Standard Bible: 1995 update. (1995). (). La Habra, CA: The Lockman Foundation.
Before Christ, no man could fully grasp or understand God, and no man could fully proclaim the Word of God. Men could understand only a part or fragment of God. But now God’s very own Son has come to earth and revealed God, proclaiming all that God is. And note: it is He Himself who is the revelation of God. He embodies the Word of God. In fact, He is the Word of God. Everything that God ever wanted to say to man is said in the person of Jesus Christ. He is the perfect expression of God’s mind. Everything that man needs to know about God and the conquest of life with all its trials, corruption, and death is seen in Jesus Christ.

2. He is the HEIR of all things. V.2

It means that Jesus Christ is to receive and be “the lawful Owner of all things.”

ALL POWER
Matthew 28:18 NASB95
And Jesus came up and spoke to them, saying, “All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth.
ALL AUTHORITY
John 5:22 NASB95
“For not even the Father judges anyone, but He has given all judgment to the Son,
LORDSHIP over the living and the dead.
Romans 14:9 NASB95
For to this end Christ died and lived again, that He might be Lord both of the dead and of the living.
ALL OF the UNIVERSE - referring to the new heavens and new earth.
2 Peter 3:10–13 NASB95
But the day of the Lord will come like a thief, in which the heavens will pass away with a roar and the elements will be destroyed with intense heat, and the earth and its works will be burned up. Since all these things are to be destroyed in this way, what sort of people ought you to be in holy conduct and godliness, looking for and hastening the coming of the day of God, because of which the heavens will be destroyed by burning, and the elements will melt with intense heat! But according to His promise we are looking for new heavens and a new earth, in which righteousness dwells.
all power and riches, wisdom and strength, honor and glory and blessing
a name above every name and every knee shall be bowed before Him vindicating His claim to be both Lord and Savior.
ALL GOVERNMENT - an eternal one.

Heb 1:8
Hebrews 1:8 NASB95
But of the Son He says, Your throne, O God, is forever and ever, And the righteous scepter is the scepter of His kingdom.
Leadership Ministries Worldwide. (1996). Hebrews-James (p. 7). Chattanooga, TN: Leadership Ministries Worldwide.
ALL POWER and RICHES, WISDOM and STRENGTH, HONOR and GLORY and BLESSING.
Revelation 5:12 NASB95
saying with a loud voice, “Worthy is the Lamb that was slain to receive power and riches and wisdom and might and honor and glory and blessing.”
A name above every name and every knee shall be bowed before Him vindicating His claim to be both Lord and Savior.
Phil 2:9-10
Philippians 2:9–10 NASB95
For this reason also, God highly exalted Him, and bestowed on Him the name which is above every name, so that at the name of Jesus every knee will bow, of those who are in heaven and on earth and under the earth,

3. Jesus Christ is the Creator and Maker of all the worlds, the entire universe. (V.2)

The word “worlds” (aiones) can also be translated as ages. Jesus Christ is the creator of both the universe and the ages that roll in one upon another, creator of both the worlds and time as it moves forward from event to event, and generation to generation. The Amplified New Testament states it well:
Jesus Christ is the Creator and Maker of all the worlds, the entire universe.

The point is this: the creation of Christ includes all the worlds (plural) of all the dimensions of being, wherever they are and however many there may be. This is exactly what is meant by the plural “worlds.” It is also what is meant when Colossians says that Christ created all things “that are in heaven, and in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers.”

⇒ If there are other visible planets and living beings in outer space, Christ created them.
⇒ If there are invisible worlds and beings in other dimensions, Christ created them.
⇒ He created all!
John 1:3 NASB95
All things came into being through Him, and apart from Him nothing came into being that has come into being.
Colossians 1:16 NASB95
For by Him all things were created, both in the heavens and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities—all things have been created through Him and for Him.

4. Jesus Christ is the very glory of God Himself. (v.3)

Hebrews 1:3 NKJV
who being the brightness of His glory and the express image of His person, and upholding all things by the word of His power, when He had by Himself purged our sins, sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high,
Word “being” indicates absolute and timeless existence. Which means that Jesus Christ Himself possessed the glory of God before He ever came into the world. He has always existed in the glory of God; He is eternal.
He has always existed in the glory of God; He is eternal.
What does glory mean? It means all the brightness of God—all the brilliance, radiance, splendor, and light of God’s Being. It means that God’s very presence—in all of His light and purity—dwells among us in the person of Jesus Christ. It meant that in Christ “dwelt all the fulness [glory] of God” (). Men could look at Jesus Christ and see the glory of God in Him—the very light and radiance of God’s Being.
John 1:14 NASB95
And the Word became flesh, and dwelt among us, and we saw His glory, glory as of the only begotten from the Father, full of grace and truth.

LESSONS LEARNED

God cares about us that He did not want us to miss anything about Him.
He owns everything. He is not only strong from the merits of what He owns but also of who HE IS. Bringing us to the third point....
We can understand the Glory of the Son by pointing our to the Sun. Just as the glory of the sun’s light reaches down to earth and touches the lives of men, so Jesus Christ, who is the glory of God, reaches down and touches the lives of men.
Just as the glory of the sun’s light reaches down to earth and touches the lives of men, so Jesus Christ, who is the glory of God, reaches down and touches the lives of men.
4. IS YOUR DAILY LIFE A REFLECTION OF :
a. His presence.
