Introduction.
On this Second Sunday of Advent, once again we hear the voice of John the Baptist echoing from a distance in the wilderness “Repent for the Kingdom of Heaven is at hand, Prepare the Way of the Lord, Make Straight His Paths,” and once again we wrestle to get another fresh insight as to what’s the meaning of it in our lives today.
Body
The Prophet Isaiah in our 1st reading gives beautiful insights for our imaginations as to what the Kingdom of Heaven the Baptist says is at hand may be like. Isaiah is talking about a person that has the spirit of wisdom, understating, counsel, strength and fear of the Lord this person will put an end to wickedness with the breath of his lips and bring justice for the poor and afflicted. Imagine a world where there is no human, drug trafficking, no drug addicts, no murders, no homelessness and hunger, no lies murders and abortions! And then to top it off imagine a complete harmony in the animal kingdom. Isaiah says “then, the calf and the young lion shall brows together, with a little child to guide them” No more National Geographic showing animals devouring each other and each and their babies. Alleluia! All this sounds like fantasy, impossible, and it certainly is thorough any fallen human, political and economic system. But with the Lord Jesus Christ who Christians believe is the person Isaiah is talking about, who has already come and defeated death on the cross and rose again, who has defeated Satan and all his lies and empty promises, with Jesus Christ God Incarnate all things are possible for the Glory of God, Amen? Alleluia! He will come again to fulfill everything Isaiah wrote. John B says “Repent” means think about this and change your mind, and ways, because the Word of God is not fantasy! Be prepared and aligned with this “Kingdom of Heaven is at hand”!,
Conclusion.
Finally my sisters and brothers, John the Baptist is crying out from the desert, Prepare the Way of the Lord Make straight his paths, and many of us here have deserted places in our lives, especially during this beautiful season. Jesus desires to come straight in and enter these places and make blossom and beautiful again, only if we would let him, by removing some of the clutter in the confession booth so he can step in. Don’t be afraid you can do it this advent. The Apostle Paul says all these things written I scripture is for giving us endurance, encouragement and hope, so that we can be harmony with one another welcome one another and with voice glorify God the Father for Jesus Christ our Lord. O that we have an exciting, bright and beautiful future to look forward to in God, to keep the faith, stand for life, speak the Catholic truth, and work for justice for the poor in the Kingdom of heaven at hand here and now. And now let’s prepare our hearts for him once again to come straight as we receive him sacramentally in the Eucharist, until he comes again. Amen?
