John 1:1–5 ESV
In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things were made through him, and without him was not any thing made that was made. In him was life, and the life was the light of men. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.
John 1:14 ESV
And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we have seen his glory, glory as of the only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth.
Luke 2:1–20 ESV
In those days a decree went out from Caesar Augustus that all the world should be registered. This was the first registration when Quirinius was governor of Syria. And all went to be registered, each to his own town. And Joseph also went up from Galilee, from the town of Nazareth, to Judea, to the city of David, which is called Bethlehem, because he was of the house and lineage of David, to be registered with Mary, his betrothed, who was with child. And while they were there, the time came for her to give birth. And she gave birth to her firstborn son and wrapped him in swaddling cloths and laid him in a manger, because there was no place for them in the inn. And in the same region there were shepherds out in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night. And an angel of the Lord appeared to them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were filled with great fear. And the angel said to them, “Fear not, for behold, I bring you good news of great joy that will be for all the people. For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord. And this will be a sign for you: you will find a baby wrapped in swaddling cloths and lying in a manger.” And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God and saying, “Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace among those with whom he is pleased!” When the angels went away from them into heaven, the shepherds said to one another, “Let us go over to Bethlehem and see this thing that has happened, which the Lord has made known to us.” And they went with haste and found Mary and Joseph, and the baby lying in a manger. And when they saw it, they made known the saying that had been told them concerning this child. And all who heard it wondered at what the shepherds told them. But Mary treasured up all these things, pondering them in her heart. And the shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for all they had heard and seen, as it had been told them.
Matthew 2:1–15 ESV
Now after Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judea in the days of Herod the king, behold, wise men from the east came to Jerusalem, saying, “Where is he who has been born king of the Jews? For we saw his star when it rose and have come to worship him.” When Herod the king heard this, he was troubled, and all Jerusalem with him; and assembling all the chief priests and scribes of the people, he inquired of them where the Christ was to be born. They told him, “In Bethlehem of Judea, for so it is written by the prophet: “ ‘And you, O Bethlehem, in the land of Judah, are by no means least among the rulers of Judah; for from you shall come a ruler who will shepherd my people Israel.’ ” Then Herod summoned the wise men secretly and ascertained from them what time the star had appeared. And he sent them to Bethlehem, saying, “Go and search diligently for the child, and when you have found him, bring me word, that I too may come and worship him.” After listening to the king, they went on their way. And behold, the star that they had seen when it rose went before them until it came to rest over the place where the child was. When they saw the star, they rejoiced exceedingly with great joy. And going into the house, they saw the child with Mary his mother, and they fell down and worshiped him. Then, opening their treasures, they offered him gifts, gold and frankincense and myrrh. And being warned in a dream not to return to Herod, they departed to their own country by another way. Now when they had departed, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared to Joseph in a dream and said, “Rise, take the child and his mother, and flee to Egypt, and remain there until I tell you, for Herod is about to search for the child, to destroy him.” And he rose and took the child and his mother by night and departed to Egypt and remained there until the death of Herod. This was to fulfill what the Lord had spoken by the prophet, “Out of Egypt I called my son.”

INTRO:

A few years ago, book by John Grishom called “Skipping Christmas” was a hit. Later, it was made into a movie.
Summary: What if Satan had been successful at preventing Jesus’ birth?
No Christmas?
(Show clip if possible)
A couple Luther & Nora Krank tired of all the commercialism & stress of Christmas, decided to skip it, no lights, no gifts no celebrations and use that money for a cruise. From that the book tells of all the ramifications with neighbor & friends. Ultimately, they realized they couldn’t skip Christmas no matter how hard they tried
INTRO: Last Year a small book by John Grishom called “Skipping Christmas” was a hit. From that the book tells of all the ramificatiosn with neighbor & friends. Realizing they couldn’t skip Christmas no matter how hard they tried
TS: There has always been a war on Christmas. From the push to put x-mas, happy holidays, winter break at school, winter parties, etc. However, it goes much farther back than that!
Satan has opposed Christmas since the Garden of Eden! He tried to prevent it from ever coming and wanted the whole world to skip Christmas altogether.
It goes much farther back than that!
**Of course we The Grinch that Stole Christmas famous book & movie
RS: Sadly, many today celebrate Christmas they think, but they are actually skipping it if they ignore the true meaning of Christmas. This is a celebration of the birth of our Savior. His advent. His leaving heaven to “tabernacle” here on Earth as John put it.
A. But I submit to you, That Satan is the Grinch that has tried to
steal or stop Christmas since the beginning & continues to

Attack on Christmas.

steal its true meaning,
Satan has always attacked Christmas.

First assault- to keep it from ever happening

Since the first promise of the seed of the woman, the coming Messiah. He has made every effort to stop Jesus’ birth

Captivity
Assyria came and took 10.5 tribes, Israel, to never return as a nation in ancient times.
Babylon took the rest, Judah, and that should have ended it, but God sent them home!

Second Assault- Complicate the Delivery

Matthew 2:1 ESV

This refers to Herod the Great, the first of several important rulers from the Herodian dynasty who are named in Scripture. This Herod, founder of the famous line, ruled from 37–4 B.C. He is thought to have been Idumean, a descendant of the Edomites, offspring of Esau. Herod was ruthless and cunning. He loved opulence and grand building projects, and many of the most magnificent ruins that can be seen in modern Israel date back to the days of Herod the Great. His most famous project was the rebuilding of the temple at Jerusalem

The wise men came seeking the newborn King of the Jews, Jesus
magi from the east.
The number of wise men is not given. The traditional notion that there were 3 stems from the number of gifts they brought. These were not kings, but Magi, magicians or astrologers—possibly Zoroastrian wise men from Persia whose knowledge of the Hebrew Scriptures could be traced back to the time of Daniel (cf. )
Daniel 5:11 ESV
There is a man in your kingdom in whom is the spirit of the holy gods. In the days of your father, light and understanding and wisdom like the wisdom of the gods were found in him, and King Nebuchadnezzar, your father—your father the king—made him chief of the magicians, enchanters, Chaldeans, and astrologers,

so Herod can worship the King, yeh, Right!
He lied, had ALL the babies 2 yrs & down murdered.
a. He lied, later we find out after the wise men were warned
of God to return home another route
The star had apparently appeared 2 years before the meeting with the King.
Babies were slaughtered to prevent Christmas from having any meaning.

However, Jesus escaped because God had warned them.

For all who rely on works of the law are under a curse; for it is written, “Cursed be everyone who does not abide by all things written in the Book of the Law, and do them.”
For as many as are of the works of the law are under the curse: for it is written, Cursed [is] every one that continueth not in all things which are written in the book of the law to do them.
But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death.
…. but the gift of God [is] eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.
