The world

The Good life .

When i was younger my definition of the good life is much different than how i define the good life now.

Each of us will have to decide for ourselves what is the good life.

The popular culture tells gives us a definition.

Our history tells gives a definition, our experiences give us a definition.

One such definition equates a good life with a high standard of living.

To some the good life was coming home on Friday after a long week of work relaxing with a beer as the good life.

To some being able to relieve the stress and strains of life with a little sniff of this or smoke of that as the good life.

Some folks who are addicted to legal or illegal substances define the good life as the ability to score and to remain in a state of inebriation.

If we watch shows on TV, living in a nice house and shopping or buying what you want is the good life.

Maybe reality TV shows the good life as anything that you like and doing it as much as you want.

I must admit that the good life definition has changed for me as I grew older and also as i grew in my relationship with Christ.

For what was once the good life is no longer my ideal , and i have become to realize that the images that are the loudest are the images that are meant to deceive and trick and lead us astray.

I have learned that a lot of what is treasured by the world , encouraged by popular culture can be summed up as a trick of the enemy.

Come with me to the the Gospel of John, the tenth chapter and the tenth verse. John 10:10

The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly.

Now i want to concentrate on the “b” part of the tenth verse but I need to give us a little about the preceeding verses and the “a” part of the tenth.

Jesus is taking about his relationship with the people , his mandate and his reason for coming. He uses an illustration of the shepherd and his relation ship with the sheep to bring his point home.

The shepherd

Scripture has always used the relationship of shepherd and sheep to show the relationship between God and his people. Take the 23rd psalm

The New King James Version Psalm 23

The LORD is amy shepherd; bI shall not 1want.

2 cHe makes me to lie down in 2green pastures;

dHe leads me beside the 3still waters.

3 He restores my soul;

eHe leads me in the paths of righteousness

For His name’s sake.

4 Yea, though I walk through the valley of fthe shadow of death,

gI will fear no evil;

hFor You are with me;

Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me.

or we can look to the 34th chapter of Ezekial

The New King James Version Chapter 34

Thus says the Lord GOD to the shepherds: a“Woe to the shepherds of Israel who feed themselves! Should not the shepherds feed the flocks? 3 bYou eat the fat and clothe yourselves with the wool; you cslaughter the fatlings, but you do not feed the flock. 4 dThe weak you have not strengthened, nor have you healed those who were sick, nor bound up the broken, nor brought back what was driven away, nor esought what was lost; but with fforce and 1cruelty you have ruled them. 5 gSo they were hscattered because there was no shepherd; iand they became food for all the beasts of the field when they were scattered.

So it was natural that Jesus chose the a shepherd illustration to talk about his relationship with people.

And while he mentions bad shepherds that come to kill steal and destroy, he speaks about his desire to bring life and bring life abundantly.

I am come.

Jesus has come in to this world to make a difference. he was not drafted or forced but chose to come and make a difference.

He choose to come to be a shepherd so that you and I can be all that we can be. he came offering salvation.

He saved me , for i was lost in my stuff but now i can saved. I know that I can have eternal life

He came to feed the sheep, to lead the sheep!

The Good Life

That they may have life.

What is life? Life is a new life. a change now and a eternal life forever after.

Life is a new way of looking at things, a new way of doing things, and new way of handling things.

Jesus has come into this world ,and if you accept that jesus has come and not only has come but has come for you then that should be good news. For a shepherd has come for you.

What can a Shepherd do?

First a shepherd knows what you needs.

What do you need?

You need a place to lie down.

And while we all need shelter, you need a place where there is peace ! you need a place where there is no danger, where there is sunny skies,. Green pastures.

Where the enemy can’t touch you, where the hell hounds can’t chase you, haters can’t . bother you. Sanctuary, jesus gives you sanctuary! Rest in ,trust in Jesus.

There are times when there is worry ,

I am not so delusional that I don’t understand that bills have to be paid, illnesses and sickness come, but i will tell you that is when you need Jesus the most. When despite all the noise in the world , all the stuff coming at you there is a place where this Jesus can make it quiet green pastures.

Still waters. Storms come and there is always some effect , but you ned Jesus who despite it all can give you still waters. When everything around you is in turmoil then then Jesus ,can stop the noise. And when the haters hate, then it does not bother you, when the winds blow , there is the still water.

Belief in Jesus can restore you.

I was sick and down but the prayer and faith healed me. Somebody knows what I am talking about.

I was depressed ,din’t not know which way to turn but prayer and faith brought me out .

Somebody here knows what I am talking about.

I was lost didn’t know which way to turn , nothing made sense to me but prayer and faith gave me an understanding of my situation, and I am better because of Jesus, somebody here knows what I am talking about.

I was afraid , afraid of people, afraid of situations, afraid of the tomorrow. Most of my fear was based on the fact that i thought I was alone but prayer let me know that i was not alone. Prayer let me know that he was with me . And my prayer was answered and I realized that no matter the situation that the Lord was with me, and if the Lord is with me who can be against me. and my fear was conquered by my faith. And my faith is real.

The world would have you think that the good life is getting high all night so that you can forget your problems. But when you come down the same problems are still there and you need to get high all over again.

But the devil is a liar.

The world would have you think that you don’t need anybody but yourself, and you can make it by yourself, But the devil is a liar for no man is an island and everybody needs somebody , and everybody needs God.

Not only does Jesus give life but he gives life more abundantly.

Now let me tell you many people have quoted this scripture talking about financial blessings. I am not saying that there will not be financial blessings, not saying that . But what I am saying is that following Jesus gives you a life that can be full , rewarding , satisfying and full of peace.

If you choose Jesus and his way of life then every thing else is sweeter.

It will make you a better father, a better husband or wife, a better child.

You start looking at things differently.

you realize what you do have rather than what you don’t.

You realize that the glass is half full rather than half empty.

You realize that you are blessed rather than cursed.

You realize there is a future rather than worrying about the past.

2 Cor 5:17 says it like this

If anyone is in Christ ,he is a new creation, old things have passed away behold all things become new.

All things be come new!

All things become new!

I was on my last , thought i was going down.

But Christ gave life

i was broken but Christ fixed me

I was in prison but Christ freed me

I was sick but Christ healed me

I was depressed but Christ lifted me

I was dead in my sins but Christ saved me he saved me ,

I been justified by Christ

I am being sanctified by Christ

And one day i will be glorified with Christ!

Because he was stretched wide on the cross i can be saved

Because he was hung high on Golgotha’s hill

I can be free

Because he when down into the grave

i can be forgiven

because he he rose on the third day

I can be sved

i can be saved

I can be saved

I can be redeemed

i can have have life

I can have life and I can have an abundant life

A full life

A sanctified life

i peace filled life

A n abundant life

choose life

Choose jesus

choose the real good life!
