Cosmic Christianity:  No Visas Necessary

Ephesians 2:11-22; February 4, 2007, FBC

I=ve never traveled outside of North America.  Canada is the extent of my Aforeign@ adventures.  Each time we have crossed the border, it was always good to get to the American border again.  On one of our trips, I was carrying a telescopic rifle sight for a friend.  It would be left in Canada.  When the man asked if we were going to leave anything in the country, I told him about this.  It was an innocent beginning to a lengthy ordeal which culminated in a physical search of our entire car.  Nothing like those reminders that this is not your home.

Countries are not the only place that you might feel out of place.  One of the major prejudices in Alaska centers around the conflict between urban and rural lifestyles.

In fact, wherever you have people, you will find them dividing into groups that prescribe a certain behavior.  If you conform, you are in.  If you don=t, you are out.  It is part of the fleshly makeup of mankind.  Even Christians are not immune.

Who You Were (11-13)

Where You Are (14-18)

What You Will Be (19-22)

Who You Were (11-13)

11 Therefore, remember that formerly you who are Gentiles by birth and called Auncircumcised@ by those who call themselves Athe circumcision@ (that done in the body by the hands of men)C  12 remember that at that time you were separate from Christ, excluded from citizenship in Israel and foreigners to the covenants of the promise, without hope and without God in the world.  13 But now in Christ Jesus you who once were far away have been brought near through the blood of Christ.

Where You Are (14-18)

14 For he himself is our peace, who has made the two one and has destroyed the barrier, the dividing wall of hostility,  15 by abolishing in his flesh the law with its commandments and regulations. His purpose was to create in himself one new man out of the two, thus making peace,  16 and in this one body to reconcile both of them to God through the cross, by which he put to death their hostility.  17 He came and preached peace to you who were far away and peace to those who were near.  18 For through him we both have access to the Father by one Spirit.

1.  Made the two one

2.  Destroyed the barrier

3.  Abolished the Law with its commandments

Purpose

1.  Create one new man out of two, thus making peace

2.  Reconciled BOTH to God

3.  Put to death hostility

Peace through the Messiah (Is 57:19)

NOW, both have access to the Father through one Spirit

What You Shall Be (19-22)

19 Consequently, you are no longer foreigners and aliens, but fellow citizens with God=s people and members of God=s household,  20 built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, with Christ Jesus himself as the chief cornerstone.  21 In him the whole building is joined together and rises to become a holy temple in the Lord.  22 And in him you too are being built together to become a dwelling in which God lives by his Spirit.

C           No longer foreigners and aliens, but members

C           Built on one foundation

C           Building rises, a Temple to the Lord

C           Dwelling for God in the person of the Spirit

We are to contain HIM!!!!!
