Transcript
Jesus continues his teaching to the crowd. He moves from the radical teaching of love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you. He literally connects this behavior to being identified as Sons of God. . Our goal is to stand out on our behavior. Our kindness to others our reactions to others even those who are our enemies. He lets us know that the sun rises on the evil and on the good and it rains on the just and the unjust. What does that mean? It means an evil man can get a tan just like a good man and if you don’t have sense to take an umbrella with you I got news for you! You will get wet I don’t care how righteous are you. I can take it a step further I don’t care how good you are in every life rain will fall. That means you will have some good days and you will have some bad days. Determining who you are determines how you respond.
So Jesus wants us to have some self focus.We must live our lives through the lens of justice. What is justice? Just doing right! So Jesus says, “Beware of practicing your righteousness before other people in order to be seen by them, for then you will have no reward from your Father who is in heaven. (). King James version says giving alms. Its simply means doing right. When we do right or practice righteousness its not to impress people. If you only do right to impress people then you really are not righteous! Jesus says if you a people pleaser or if you only do good to be seen then you have no reward in heaven. Our actions even our giving must be done through the lens of justice.
As our them says we are require to do justly and walk humbly with our God. Everything we do must be done through the lens of justice. That simply means through the eyes of God! Isaiah reminds us It is he that sitteth upon the circle of the earth, and the inhabitants thereof are as grasshoppers; that stretcheth out the heavens as a curtain, and spreadeth them out as a tent to dwell in:
I don’t care how big you get how important you think you are the truth of the matter is you really have an audience of one and its God! We tend to like to try and impress people. We post stuff on Facebook and Instagram hoping get likes. We get caught up with showing off. I am not saying you should not share on social media I’m saying don’t let that be you motive for doing right!
So Jesus warns us of three things:
Practicing Righteousness
Giving to the Needy
Praying
This week I want to look at Righteousness and Giving because the really go hand and hand. :17
17 If anyone has material possessions and sees his brother in need but has no pity on him, how can the love of God be in him? 18 Dear children, let us not love with words or tongue but with actions and in truth.
A righteous man knows how to give and share. Also a righteous man will knows when not to give. …the righteous gives and does not hold back.
Jesus says when we give don’t sound the trumpet! Your giving is not to bring attention to yourself. We have to be careful about trying to get in the $100 line if we only working with a $10 budget. I am not saying not to stretch your faith. Often we are challenged to stretch out faith in giving. Tithing is a test of our faith. That’s why God said try him prove him. Our giving must be a display of our obedience, trust and love for God. So this lesson said don’t sound the trumpet. He call those folk hypocrites. In English New Bible Dictionary a hypocrite is one who deliberately and as a habit professes to be good when he is aware that he is not. The Message Bible sumises this way:
Be especially careful when you are trying to be good so that you don’t make a performance out of it. It might be good theater, but the God who made you won’t be applauding. 2–4 “When you do something for someone else, don’t call attention to yourself. You’ve seen them in action, I’m sure—‘playactors’ I call them. Playactor is how that word hypocrite is translated. We have to stop playing! Tell your neighbor stop playing!

So we warned to be careful. To be careful of How we Give, Why we Give and When we give!
How do we give
We give secretly. Do let your left hand know what your right hand is doing. We don’t to bring attention to ourselves with making noise like look at me. I giving! If you are who you say you then God will get the glory. Its in Chapter 5 that Jesus says: 14 “You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden. 15 Nor do people light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a stand, and it gives light to all in the house. 16 In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven. (). Give secretly and God will reward you.

Let me we not only need to give secretly we need to give cheerfully.
We are to give cheerfully. For God loves a cheerful giver. Paul told the Corinthians Each one must give as he has decided in his heart, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.
There should be a joy in our giving. If we have the right motives we will have the right joy. The attitude behind it really matters.
There is a huge difference between obligated to, and intentionally (and cheerfully) giving. There should be such a joy to give that it makes you feel some kind of way!
Give generously to him and do so without a grudging heart; then because of this the Lord your God will bless you in all your work and in everything you put your hand to.
Every man shall give as he is able, according to the blessing of the LORD your God which He has given you.
Then the people rejoiced because they had offered so willingly, for they made their offering to the Lord with a whole heart, and King David also rejoiced greatly.
Do not withhold good from those to whom it is due, when it is in your power to do it.
There is one who scatters, and yet increases all the more, and there is one who withholds what is justly due, and yet it results only in want. The generous man will be prosperous, and he who waters will himself be watered.

I knew this gift would change both of our lives. And it has. I was asked to be a speaker at a Woman’s Ministry dinner. Everyone can give, it’s selfless giving that is hard. if someone needs something, give it to them before they ask. Don’t give for what you can get, or to go to someone else to boast about it, but give out of love. the best thing you can do for someone is to let them know Jesus loves them.Start small, and work up to the big stuff. Christmas, even though it is suppose to be about Christ, its more about using religion to make money. Christmas and giving gifts is realistically only about 100 yrs old. This is what corporate America wants you to think, Show your family you love them, buy them gifts for Christmas.Show your wife you love her, by her jewelry for your anniversary.Basically Corporate america is trying to say “Gifts=Love”, in order to get more money in their pockets.You can try to argue about the three gifts given to Jesus, but the thing is, Jesus is Lord, we are not. Christmas is nothing more than a method to make money off of people by the use of religion. Just like anniversary gifts are to make money off of the love you have or your spouse.

It’s good to not go overboard during the holidays, but it’s also a good thing to show others you care – gift or no gift. Agreed?📷Nikii says December 7, 2018 at 12:58 pmThroughout the Bible God calls his people to remember and celebrate. Christmas is about remembering and celebrating what Christ has done for us. Christ made it clear in His word that we giim, by giving to others (Matt 25 is one example). True, retailers have taken advantage of this, but God doesn’t judge you based on what retailers do; He judges you based on where your heart is. If someone’s heart is into the commercialism of it than they’re not really celebrating Christmas nor honoring Christ (they are literally breaking his Commandments by putting things above him) but if they are giving to truly honor God and to remember and celebrate what he has done for them than they are truly celbrating Christmas.
We need to stand up for what Christmas is really about. Stop buying stuff that doesn’t represent the true meaning of Christmas. As long as we buy into it, allowing it to happen, retailers will continue to do it. So if you have a problem with the way Christmas is treated, the solution starts with you. You cant look at this teat and forget to find out why we give. We give to be praised of men but we give to be obedient to God. Now for show or glow but because it is just. Its the right thing. Its so just that the lord blesses the giver.
:9He who is generous will be blessed, for he gives some of his food to the poor.
:27He who gives to the poor will never want, but he who shuts his eyes will have many curses.
“Bring the whole tithe into the storehouse, so that there may be food in My house, and test Me now in this,” says the Lord of hosts, “if I will not open for you the windows of heaven and pour out for you a blessing until it overflows.
:38Give, and it will be given to you. They will pour into your lap a good measure, pressed down, shaken together, and running over. For by your standard of measure it will be measured to you in return.

Simaliar to how. Give when no one is looking. Let your giving be between you and God.
God have given us so much! He was not sparingly when he gave to us.
For God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten son, that whosoever believes in Him wouldn’t perish, but would have eternal life.
Now this I say, he who sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and he who sows bountifully will also reap bountifully. Each one must do just as he has purposed in his heart, not grudgingly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver. And God is able to make all grace abound to you, so that always having all sufficiency in everything, you may have an abundance for every good deed.
:10Now He who supplies seed to the sower and bread for food will supply and multiply your seed for sowing and increase the harvest of your righteousness;
So our giving must be thru the lens of Justice doing what is right.
