Well, I good morning. Ciorciari. Good morning, that's better. How are we doing? Well for the members here and Graham acid. I assure you that I really am receiving a priest couple weeks ago. I'm just a less fuzzy. All right, so slightly slave as Harry version of myself. It's my honor and it's my my my my privilege of my pleasure to be able to open gods were with you this morning. My message today is entitled a compassionate savior. A compassionate savior. The reason I called it that is because in our texts this morning we get a little Glimpse. Can we get it we get a peek? We get a Look Into the Heart of Jesus we get to look through the window into what drives and energizes the embodied Son of God. We see what we see is that is that part of it motivates Jesus to complete his work is his compassion compassion is determined to complete his work on Earth because of the compassion that he has for Sinners and because of his commitment to completing the work the father has for him, right? This passes shows us that Jesus is determined to complete his work on Earth because of the compassion that he has for Sinners and because of his commitment to the completing the work out the father has for him. It's my it's my prayer this morning that the Holy Spirit would work to apply to sex or Hearts 2 Alive's at the because of our time in it this We would look more like Jesus. We see hear Jesus said any samples for our deliverer Christian last what's my prayer that because of our time together this morning? We would look more like we live our lives in Worlds with that in mind. Please grab your bibles are open your phones and not turn over to Luke chapter 13 verses 31 to 35 Luke 13:31 235. If you don't have a Bible, it's also printed on the back side of the hand out in the bulletin you have this morning last week 22 of 30 and our passes this morning pics off right where we left off last week. We saw Jesus clearly delivering a strong message on the reality and the nature of the kingdom of God right here to get a very clear message on the Rowdy and the nature of the kingdom of God and really it was just a continuation of a trend that we've seen throughout the last couple chapters of Luke Wright has been a priest and Assistant message from Jesus all through Loop 12 and 13. We seen Jesus issue some clear and often hard right teachings on who he is and what he came to Earth to do right today today is no different cuz even as were even as we're getting a look at the compassion of Christ, he's even as we're getting out to see the Heart of Jesus in his compassion for Sinners. We're still very much in a Texas like the rest of Loop 12 and 13, right Jesus is not shying away from some uncomfortable truths in our passes. So please grab your Bibles right? We're going to read through a text and then we're going to pray and get to work Hulu 13 starting verse 31 At that very hour some Pharisees came and said to him get away from here for Herod wants to kill you and he said to them go and tell that fox behold. I cast out demons and perform here is today and tomorrow and the third day. I finished my course nevertheless. I must go on my way today and tomorrow and the day following we're cannot be that a prophet should perish away from Jerusalem. Oh Jerusalem, Jerusalem the city that kills the prophets and Stones those were sent to it. How often would I have gathered your children together as a hen gathers her brood under for wings and you were not willing to hold your house is Forsaken and I tell you you will not see me until you say blessed. Is he who comes in the name of the Lord? Let spray father? We thank you for today. We're saying if the opportunity that we have to come and gather together here openly in this play store without fear of danger of persecution repercussions Lord. We think of all the brothers and sisters we have around the world today who don't know where this is like to have to meet in secret or who are afraid of what could happen to them. If they're found your sweet. Thank you for for the freedom. We have your we could you encourage those who don't have the father pray that you would work in our hearts today. We're by the power of your words that you would change us to be more like Jesus more like your son that you would save us to be more like him. I'm father. You just be with me as a pretty sure that you've guard my mouth more than everything. I say we glorify you and be true and accurate to the scripture you have us until they finally asked us all and your son's holy name. Amen. All right. So our first point is found in the opening 3 vs Gacy live with me again verses 31 to 33 second time. All right at that very hour some Pharisees came and said to him get away from here for Herod wants to kill you and he said to them go and tell that box behold cast out demons and perform cures today and tomorrow in a third day. I finished my course nevertheless. I must go on my way today and tomorrow and the following day for canopy that a proper should perish away from Jerusalem. All right, the first thing we see this morning is that Jesus is determined to complete his work. Right? Nothing is going to stop Jesus from finishing the work that the father has for him. He is determined to finish it. Are passenger comes right of Jesus teaching on the narrow door to Salvation, right? And it opens up with this group of Pharisees coming to him and giving him a warning that his life is in danger from here where I can spend a whole lot of time on this but I think I think that we would be pretty justified in being a little bit skeptical about the the the quality and sincerity of this morning, right? I don't think it's unreasonable for us to be suspicious of the Pharisees because by Jesus are they really have confuses best interest at heart. They haven't really been wanting blasting for Jesus in a lot of the interactions. We seen with him, right? They're not overly concerned with his well-being. In spite of the fact that the Pharisees are often Seek and Destroy Jesus in his ministry this what we see today. It seems to be a genuine morning write this do seem to genuinely be concerned about Jesus's life. And in the seems to be genuinely trying to get Jesus to run for his life. Now, there's been some discussion as to what their motives here could be but there are really only two options that seem reasonable K. The first is that the Pharisees they don't necessarily want him dead. They just want to get rid of them right there just don't want to have to deal with him if it's kind of like, I think that the problem guy in the union are you can't fire him but you just shopping around it so different Departments of the office and try to see what you can do like that. They don't want to kill him. They just don't want to deal with him. They don't want him to be their problem, right the second option. Is that perhaps these Pharisees have come to Believe In Christ, right? We see it in action after 15 of this happens and that seems that seems a little more unlikely. But whatever the reason is they give him a warning that Herod wants him dead. That that is a very believable threat. At this point in Jesus life. Harrod already killed John the Baptist ate already keyed already bad this cousin and it could be that Harold wants uses dead because he's sick of having these polarizing prophetic figures wandering around his kingdom creating issue and calling him out for a sin right pair light a nice orderly King and I could just be that he thought Jesus was causing problems. So we wanted to kill him regardless of of the reasoning for the legitimacy of the threat. This is amazing. Jesus appears absolutely unfazed by the report of it. In fact, it is opening few few words is opening response received just how untroubled Jesus is by Herod and his schemes what we see is that Jesus responds by calling Herod off box. A fox that that is as you can probably guess not a compliment. Even today you call somebody foxed you don't you're you're saying there's slide or they're sneaky, right? You're not you're not giving them a compliment. But in Jesus's day right to be called a fox terrier much more unpleasant connotation, right Jesus here is essentially calling haired. He's calling him out for being deceitful duplicitous and destructive. Right and then and then he goes on to State just how unconcerned he really is about haridwar his schemes. Right? Look at me at what he says to hold I cast out demons and perform cures today and tomorrow and the third day I finished my course never the less. I must go on my way today and tomorrow and the following day for a cannot be that a prophet Church Parish away from Jerusalem. Jesus is making it clear right that hair is plans do not concern him in the slightest. Right and he is staying at there's absolutely nothing absolutely. Nothing I could do to stop him from completing his work. Jesus says that soon all his work will be done and it will be finished in Jerusalem not in Galilee where this conversation is. She just probably taking place galleries were here is a power Jerusalem's outside of his control so that when Jesus is talking about today tomorrow in the third day, it's unlikely that he's talking about literally being in Jerusalem in three days time is also unlikely as is our tendency to think that he's talking about the resurrection know what this does always talking about what he's doing is using what was a common figure of speech. I meant to refer to a short but undefined. Of time is so short but undefined. Of time who Jesus is saying that he has work left to do and that he will finish it to do. But more than that, he's saying that it must be done. It's worth it has to be accomplished and that he must be the one to do it right looking verse 33. Jesus says I I must I must go on my way and I'm saying this he is signaling his determination to complete the work. The father is laid out for him to do. He knows he knows that his work on Earth is not yet finished and more than that more than that is receiving verse 33. He also knows that his work will not be completed until until he dies. It look with me the anniversary 3. Fourth cannot be it cannot be the profit should what? I probably should perish. The Profit should perish away from Jerusalem to hear Jesus use identify himself as a profit which is important us another server for no time does identify himself as a prophet and he is showing that he's fully aware of how much time is left on Earth. Okay with switching Mike's

Oh, yeah that we are. All right. How long does it take the tape off? Are you showing these fully aware of how much time he has left on Earth and and he's showing of what he must do in order to finish the task for the father has four. He knows he knows the trials. He's about to face. He is conscious of the abuse that is waiting for him. He understands the level of suffering that he's about to undertake and he knows he knows the painful and humiliating definitely before him. Right, he knows and he is determined to go and finish that work in a house. How amazing is that? Right? It's an incredible thing to think about Jesus is unwavering. It is resolved finishes work, even though he knows what's in store for him, even though he knows what's coming a wonderful example, Jesus is Forest people. How often do we shy away from the worth of God has laid before us because it's getting a little bit difficult, right? Because it's getting kind of hard right how often have to do. I know I do it. I'm guilty of this but his willingness and it is determination to complete the saving work that God has set for him to do Jesus shows us how to live out our Christian lives. They one commentator says, this is wonderful. He says that Jesus has extraordinary work until vacation shows us how to do our own ordinary of Christian service. Jesus's extraordinary work in Salvation shows us how to do our own ordinary work of Christian service.

This is a fine this very convicting. Right. I'm I'm very often paint a verse I don't like doing difficult things necessarily sometimes I'm often just plain lazy. I'd rather die. Just rather not all the time in this is this is convicting think you of of Jesus commitment to the task the fall asleep before he was wanting to go through pain and suffering death right to achieve the word. I'm so often caught up in my own laziness and disinterest in distraction. Right? What if we approach the task that the goddess set for us to do with the same determination and with the same dedication the Jesus shows and securing our salvation.

What if we approach the work of evangelism like this? What if we approached missions like this? What if we approached church planting like this? I think I think I think more people would hear the Gospel of Jesus. I I think more missionaries would go out to the nation's. I think more churches we planted both locally and globally right if we didn't care about the risks and the discomfort or the dangers that can leave for us, but we only and unwaveringly the call of God in our lives. I think it's safe to say that the Church of you completely different place. This applies this applies to all other aspects of Our Lives as well. Whatever stage of life you're in whether you're in school or working in a career with a your parents. Stay home parent pray for you. God bless you.

If you notice to give him a hug, please tell me you love and appreciate them a few if you're in school. If you're working your parent if you were tired or whatever it is you're doing you are called to imitate Christ in all in all that you do right this include your regular daily life in the regular work you do right now and it needs to be said that none of us can do this perfectly, right? We are Fallen creatures. We are we are unable to perfectly imitate are perfect savior. But but by the power of the Holy Spirit, we can Endeavor to try write the history of the church is filled with examples of men and women by the power of the spirit. I've walked into the things that God has had for them to do and end and not them perfectly done an incredible job of trying to faithfully and obediently work out at the plans. I got half of them as if they're seeking to to glorify him and all that they do right there were lied on him. Sustain them through the difficulties that came as they diligently pursued his will and all things. verse verse 34 that gives us an insight into what drove Jesus to complete the work that was set before him look with me their first 3/4 Oh Jerusalem, Jerusalem the city that kills the prophets and Stones those who are sent to it. How often how often would I have gathered your children together? As a hen gathers her brood under her wings, and you were not willing. Here. Here we see what is driving Jesus. His determination is fueled by a heart filled with a passion. It's compassion the driving Jesus towards Jerusalem, right? It's compassion. That's driving Jesus at the completion of his work now to the question why Jerusalem, what is the significance of Jerusalem? Good question Jerusalem, Jewish life since the time of King David Wright and the significance of Jerusalem Lane the fact that the Ark of the Covenant in the temple were there, right and it's so as as as the home of the Ark in the temple Jerusalem signified the dwelling place of God on Earth with his people that's a big deal represents that it is the dwelling place of God Among the holy city was the city of God and it was the god-ordained center of worship for his people the whole of Jewish life revolves around the temple and therefore Especially in the Old Testament but still often in the New Jerusalem to see Jerusalem represents the people of God represents the people of God and one of the most common threads woven throughout the whole of the Bible is God's desire to love and be with his people aren't we see that all through the scripture, but with that we also see people's rejection of him. It's a tragic story to watch unfold as you read through the Bible. God's pursuing his people and them spurning his advances. Here here in verse 34. We're seeing this Grand historical reality being played out for us in Jesus and his lament over Jerusalem. Oh Jerusalem. Oh Jerusalem the city that kills the prophets and Stones those who are sent to it. Can you hear the anguish in his voice? Can you can you see the Heartbreak the sword right? He's addressing the whole of the chosen people of God says how often how often would I have gathered your children together as a hen gathers her brood under her wings. Jesus Is Telling probably referring to two things two things is referring to one on the surface. He is referencing his Earthly Ministry. He he he's addressing the fact that he's been trying to show these people trying to show Jerusalem Israel with the people of God who he is so I can be saved just think back to 2012 World of the temple with who she is through the scriptures in the Divinity of Christ on display right Racine the Divinity of Christ on display S8. Imagery that is so often. So often used to describe how God protects and cares for people that he's using that imagery to describe himself, right? We so often seen the stretch of special described as as as a bird protecting Gathering nurturing caring for his people under his wings are comforting things used to describe was raised as a bird protecting his people in here Jesus making that connection to myself by using that image, right? He is simultaneously giving us a glimpse of The Wonder of his divinity and 10 of the compassionate is driving his work here on Earth and what compassion What what's your passion he is walking towards pain and suffering on a scale and none of us can imagine we can't we can't comprehend it because because of the love and compassion. What he feels for Jerusalem. For the people of God for his people and can get this get this is important. He's doing it because of the love and compassion that he feels for his enemies. he's doing this because of the love and compassion he feels for lost centers the love and compassion of Jesus at this point towards Jerusalem verse 34 is a love and compassion towards lost to Ward Centers. The people of Jerusalem are not his friends. They're not as friends by large many of them hate him. They're going to crucify him as a common criminal in the not-too-distant future. And he knows this. Jesus knows if this is the Fate that awaits him in Jerusalem and he knows it and he Mourns their hardness and he expresses his love and compassion for them. Anyway, knowing full what's going to happen when he gets her brothers and sisters in Christ, please please hear this K the love and compassion that Jesus has for Jerusalem is to be the model for our own love and compassion towards a loss centers around us.

Passion. The Jesus has for Jerusalem is to be the model for our own love and compassion towards La Center KY.

Starters because we're commanded in scripture to imitate Christ. Okay, we're commanded in scripture to immigrate to imitate Christ. And if this is how he loves the lost them is how we should do it to you. If this is how Christ loves Sinners is how we should love with you. We should mourn over their sin and lost this right. We should more over instead of hating them instead of walking or ostracizing them because of their of the Brokenness, right? We should desire that they should come to Jesus to know him and be saved that should be how are reacting to them. We want them to repent and believe because This is how Christ loved us when we were lost in our sin. This is how Christ loved us when we were lost in our sin Christian. This is how Christ loved you. When you were dead in your sin. No Christ. Love me.

None of us noticed Airborne safe. Okay, we're all born haters of God or his enemies and it was the holy spirit's work in our hearts that showed us. The truth of our sin has the pointed us to the Glorious truth. The Christ died to save his people to gather himself under his wings. None of us will be saved. None of us would be saved apart from the greatest work of God in our lives if if we forget that if we begin to believe that we saved ourselves or honor salvation in any way. If we begin to lose the compassion that we should be feeling towards those who are lost.

Christian Wilson You did not save yourself.

You did not save yourself. Nothing you have done or will accomplish in the future could pay the cost of your sin to Securus Ovation. Do not ever forget that the knowledge of your dependence on Christ for your salvation should shape the way you look at the lost people around you. Jesus was moved to death by The Compassion that he had for the Lost. Jesus was moved to death by The Compassion that you have lost Lord. Let that impact the way we see the world. Hey, but inasmuch as we get a look at Christ's compassion. We also get a warning at the end of verse 34 anniversary 5 where Jesus makes it clear. He makes it clear that his passion does not negate the coming judgment. The Compassion of Christ does not negate the coming judgment. Jesus has talked a lot about this in the last couple chapters, right and he's doing in your Jesus is talking about his desire to save the lost and then and then you said something that should give us pause. Look at me the anniversary for You says that she says you were not willing. You were not willing.

In in in these four words, we see the the beautiful and the terrifying complexity of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. It is as much as it is God who saves us we must respond to him, right? If we do not come to Christ. If we do not come to Christ. It is not because we were not invited but It's because we did not come. If we do not come to Christ it is not because we were not invited but because we did not come as this a wonderful juxtaposition of divine sovereignty and human responsibility right here. We see the Jesus reveals God's heart to protect to love to nurture to care for to save his people in the only thing that stops a from having Jesus is the only thing that stops a from happening is that the people did not want him to If you're here this morning, you're not a Christian my friends the invitation has been made. Jesus he came to Earth to reconcile a sin for Humanity to a holy God Write Sins separate us from him in because of the completed work. That was because he completed the work that was set before him because of the compassion that he in the love that he felt towards his people that she came and he and he finish that work for you because he loves you. He was murdered. He died in order to atone for the sins of his people and in his death in his death. He paid the price of the Salvation and now he is offering you the opportunity to come under his wings into eternity accept invitation. If you don't know what that means if you don't have to ask somebody around you cuz if you don't come to him verse 35 May well be directed at you. Look at me there. Jesus says behold. Hold your house is forsaken.

And I tell you you will not see me until you say blessed. Is he who comes in the name of the Lord? This is this is not a reference to Jesus his triumphal entry into Jerusalem on Palm Sunday. This is this this is a warning. This is a warning of what will happen when Jesus returns and victory at the end of time is saying your house is forsaking. He's stating that the danger to Jerusalem and Israel because of their rejection of him right in rejecting him. They're inviting the destruct destruction on themselves at end is destruction that eventually comes in his destruction that was promised them in the profits. Are we see all through the Old Testament, and Fall Guy baby. If you don't this will happen Follow Me Love Me Or Not to slap. This is not new to them. Jesus standing with the profits of what the cost of Disobedience and disinterest is its destruction. The cost is the righteous judgement of a holy God on sinful people in his warning that they will not see him again until they say blessed is he who comes in the name of or we should hear the truth of Revelation? 1:7 Revelation? 1:7, John. Jesus is coming with the clouds every eye every I got some ice every I will see him even those who pierced him and all the tribes all the tribes of the earth Wale on account of him because of Paul tells us in Philippians chapter 2 verses 9 uses. God has highly exalted him. Jesus God has highly exalted Jesus and bestowed on him the name that is above every name so that at the name of Jesus At The Name of Jesus every knee will bow every knee not some every every knee will bow in heaven and on Earth and under the Earth and every tongue will confess. That Jesus Christ is Lord to the glory of God. The Father. Amen is a good spot for name in. All right, she is coming. Jesus is coming and when he does when he does everyone will know who he is. Everyone will know who he is and they will willingly or unwillingly confess the truth of Jesus Christ. Jesus is coming is either a warning or an opportunity. Did he was driven by compassion to come and pour out his life on behalf of loss centers people like you people like me. but even as he is compassionate he is also just and if you're found outside of his family when he returns, he says your house will be forsaken destined for destruction. Jesus is work. Jesus is work on behalf of the father will not be fully completed until the Kosmos has been judged and renewed his work on behalf of the father will not be fully completed until the Kosmos have been judged and renewed and he is as committed his ass committed to carry out the work of the father now as he has ever been. Prince Jesus is coming is either a warning or an opportunity? The invitation has been me come to Jesus be gathered to him be shelter in his wings and then you can and you can look forward you can look forward to that glorious day when you can. Joyfully cry when you can. Joyfully, along with the whole family of God blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord spray? Father thank you for your word you thank you for what you just about Jesus Jesus. We thank you for your compassion for your faithfulness completed the worth of the fall asleep before you and then did what you did to save us. We thank you for the help us or to be determined in our work or to be compassion to those around his father. Wanted to respond for lien to follow you with all the way. Do you think you'll be glorify you we give you praise and Evie Frye?
