Introduction.  Wait a minute!  Wait one minute!  Cleopas, don’t you know who’s walking with you?  Can’t you see Him?  Are you going to miss your blessing by not recognizing Jesus?  It’s hard to accept but it’s true.  It was Resurrection Sunday morning.  The word was out, “Jesus has risen.  He’s not dead.”  Yet disbelief and disappointment and discouragement had not only robbed Cleopas and his friend of their joy but had now blinded their eyes and they couldn’t see Jesus for who He really is.  What’s your excuse for not seeing Jesus?  Is it disappointment?  Have you been hurt so many times that you have become numb?  Is it distance?  Have you strayed away and allowed sin and temptation to cloud your view?  Or is it plain disbelief?  Do you have a hard time accepting all of this church stuff?)  Don’t be closed in and closed up because of self, situations and Satan, Jesus wants to open some things up in your life.

I.       Jesus wants to Open up the Scriptures  (v. 27, 32)  Too many church folks know Beyounce but they don’t know Bible.  They watch Simon but are not familiar with Simon Peter.  Why?  They don’t know their Bible.  Sunday worship is more important than Sunday school.  Singing/studying.  Eat/enlightened.  Notice Christ in verses 25-26 and verse 44.  In the Law ~ Seed of the woman, star of Jacob, scepter of Israel.  In the Prophets ~ Jeremiah wrote about my love, Micah – birthplace, Isaiah – name.  In the writings ~ wisdom of all ages and the greatest joy giver of all times.

II.     Jesus wants to Open up our Understanding  (v. 45)  The bible contains the mind of God, the state of man, the way of salvation, the doom of sinners, and the happiness of believers.  It contains light to direct you, food to support you, and comfort to cheer you.  It is the traveler’s map, the pilgrim’s staff, the pilot’ compass, the soldier’s sword, and the Christian charter.  Christ is its grand subject, our good its design and the glory of God its end.  It should fill the memory, rule the heart, and guide the feet.  Read it to be wise, believe it to be safe, practice it to be holy.  Yes, Christ took the Word of God and made it plain.

III.   Jesus wants to open up our Eyes  (vv. 30-31)  Fellowship with Jesus will strengthen your faith and sharpen your focus!  From mountain/Master, crowd/Christ, threats/truths.

IV.  They Opened their Mouths.  (v. 33-35)
