Wedding   Lisa Thorson / Mitch Morrison 6/5/99

Texts: Song Sol 2.10-13 Rom 15.5-7

lot of work getting ready for this wed?

saved a lot of time and trouble if you had only followed advice in the scripture from Song: "Arise, my love, my fair one, and come away!”

or maybe thinking of 1st time you met at Chub’s, w/ friends, you leave, come back and he was in “your” chair: Arise, my love, my fair one and gimme back my chair

or maybe thinking about July 4, 1998, Maplewood Park, Mitch was strangely insistent that you climb to the top of that hill, you getting hot and tired: Arise, my love, my fair and come to the top bec I’m going to propose to you there

or maybe… thinking about how L loves to travel, time together, walking, blading, talking, etc.: Arise…

or maybe: M thinking: Arise… and let’s go hunting and fishing (maybe not)

or maybe both busy working, hardly see each other: hey you, gimme some white space and Arise… and let’s spend some time together

when things going crazy, maybe kids, bills, etc.: "Arise, my love, my fair one, and let’s get away!”

tendency is to run, avoid: every married couple here knows will be moments when think: Arise… and GO AWAY!

romantic vision of the 2 of you skipping across the meadows w/ flowers in your hair is one you will not be able to sustain – you will need something more: faithfulness, commitment, Love as an active verb, responsibility, honesty..

BUT also need something more: will need God

Rom 15 again: May the God of steadfastness and encouragement grant you to live in harmony with one another

God be with you wherever you go and give harmony – God’s purpose and gift for you – reason why here, celebrate

and reason why you can say:

"Arise, my love, my fair one, and come away!” bec as you do so, you know that steadfast love of Lord will always go w/ you;

"Arise, my love, my fair one, and come away!” bec as you do so, know that God’s encouragement will give you the harmony and unity

"Arise, my love, my fair one, and come away!” bec as you do so, you know for your joy and to God’s glory you will be upheld and sustained wherever your life’s course may lead.

Thanks be to God.

(Cant 2:10-13)  My beloved speaks and says to me: "Arise, my love, my fair one, and come away; {11} for now the winter is past, the rain is over and gone. {12} The flowers appear on the earth; the time of singing has come, and the voice of the turtledove is heard in our land. {13} The fig tree puts forth its figs, and the vines are in blossom; they give forth fragrance. Arise, my love, my fair one, and come away.

(Rom 15:5-7)  May the God of steadfastness and encouragement grant you to live in harmony with one another, in accordance with Christ Jesus, {6} so that together you may with one voice glorify the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. {7} Welcome one another, therefore, just as Christ has welcomed you, for the glory of God.
