Season of reflection, going beyond the Daily Bread to have deeper conversations with the Lord.
Having healthy rhythms of engagement and solitude.
Pausing: an intention to focus on what matters most
Jesus invites us to times of stillness and solitude to consider, meditate on, contemplate who he is, what he is saying what he has done and wants to do, with and for those he loves.
Repentance: What needs displaced in our lives to orient them toward Christ?

Be Still: It’s Not What We Think it Means

Pausing: an intention to focus on what matters most
Teacher who made students be still and silent and do nothing for 10 minutes

It’s Hard to Be Still

Teacher who made students be still and silent and do nothing for 10 minutes
Physical Stillness: I can’t sit still...
Mental Stillness: stimulation, distractions everywhere
Pete Scazzero: We have way more external activity in our life than our inner life can sustain and it leads to all kinds of trouble in our everyday life.
Emotional stillness: it takes courage to face the reality underneath rather than avoid being alone with our feelings about
Broken dreams
Fears
Insecurities
Doubts
Unrealized aspirations

Our Resistance to Stillness

Fear of reality
Feeling how bad we think things are
Look for distractions/make distractions happen
Music playing in our ears
Phone apps
People with Tinitus - play sounds to hide the din beneath it so we don’t have to hear it.
The noise we allow and often create for ourselves on purpose has a purpose: to overpower how we don’t want to feel.

[SLIDE 2] God Says: Be Still

Psalm 46:1–11 ESV
God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble. Therefore we will not fear though the earth gives way, though the mountains be moved into the heart of the sea, though its waters roar and foam, though the mountains tremble at its swelling. Selah There is a river whose streams make glad the city of God, the holy habitation of the Most High. God is in the midst of her; she shall not be moved; God will help her when morning dawns. The nations rage, the kingdoms totter; he utters his voice, the earth melts. The Lord of hosts is with us; the God of Jacob is our fortress. Selah Come, behold the works of the Lord, how he has brought desolations on the earth. He makes wars cease to the end of the earth; he breaks the bow and shatters the spear; he burns the chariots with fire. “Be still, and know that I am God. I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth!” The Lord of hosts is with us; the God of Jacob is our fortress. Selah
What needs displaced in our lives to orient them toward Christ?

Why would God say be still?

When I’ve sung the song Be Still and Know…calm down.
10 - be still...grow slack, release
When I’ve sung the song Be Still and Know…calm down.
Matthew 14:23 ESV
And after he had dismissed the crowds, he went up on the mountain by himself to pray. When evening came, he was there alone,
Luke 5:16 ESV
But he would withdraw to desolate places and pray.
Luke 22:41 ESV
And he withdrew from them about a stone’s throw, and knelt down and prayed,
When I’ve sung the song Be Still and Know…calm down.
10 - be still...grow slack, release
But Why?
