KEY POINT: Nothing Can Prevent Easter From Happening
Illustration: Each week there have been new orders given with the intent of trying to keep people in their homes.
Governing leaders in many states have order strict “stay-at-home” orders even among close family and friends.
I was recently taken back by an article that talked about how in China they are using drones to keep people at home and to confront those who try to leave their homes.
In fact, using drones to enforce ‘staying at home’ is not just something that is happening in China, it is also happening here in our home state. In Elizabeth, NJ local law enforcing are using drones with pre-recorded messages to tell residents to “stop gathers, disperse and go home.”
This is the world in which we live now. Every precaution is being taken to keep you at home. To make sure you stay in place.
GOSPEL CONNECTION: MATTHEW 27 “Guard placed at the Tomb”
Joseph of Arimathea: Asks Pilot for the Body of Jesus so that he can care for it and place it in his personal family tomb.
He rolled massive stone in front of the tomb.
Chief Priest and the Pharisees: Heard through the grapevine from Jesus’ Disciples that Jesus would rise again on the Third Day and so they went to Pilot guard the Tomb with Roman Soldiers. The Soldier that were used to guard the tomb were soldiers well trained in keeping guard over things.
Between the massive stone enclosing the Tomb and the well trained and intimidating soldiers of the largest world power of that time guarding the tomb, the likely hood of anything happening at Jesus’ tomb was very unlikely.
How could 11 common everyday disciples overpower the soldiers guarding the tomb, let alone move the massive stone the enclosed the tomb unnoticed.
Besides the fact that when Jesus was burried, all of his disciples fled. The only ones grieving at the graveside when Jesus was burried was Joseph of Arimathea, Mary Magdelene and perhaps Mary the Mother of Jesus.
All precautions were put in place to make that Jesus remained in the tomb!
But despite all their efforts, nothing could stop Easter from happening.
The body was burried
The Stone was set.
The guards were guarding
And yet Easter still happening.
The virus spread,
Mandates were put into place
The church gathering was canceled,
Traditions changed,
Technology seemed to be working against us,
And yet, Nothing can stop Easter from happening.
