The Truth of the Resurrection

Bart Ehrman:
... as a historian I think evidence matters. And the past matters. And for anyone to whom both evidence and the past matter, a dispassionate consideration of the case makes it quite plain: Jesus did exist.
The Birth of Jesus
The life of Jesus
The Ministry of Jesus
The Death of Jesus
The Resurrection of Jesus
The power in the proclamation of the truth of the Resurrection is more than the combined power of all the armies that have ever or will ever exist and even more so, it is more powerful than the deadliest, craftiest lies that have ever been thought or spoken
Let no one grieve at his poverty,
for the universal kingdom has been revealed.
Let no one mourn that he has fallen again and again;
for forgiveness has risen from the grave.
O death, where is thy sting?
O Hell, where is thy victory?
Christ is Risen, and you, o death, are annihilated!
Christ is Risen, and the evil ones are cast down!
Christ is Risen, and the angels rejoice!
Christ is Risen, and life is liberated!
Christ is Risen, and the tomb is emptied of its dead;
for Christ having risen from the dead,
is become the first-fruits of those who have fallen asleep.
To Him be Glory and Power forever and ever. Amen!

The Purpose of the Resurrection

The Glory of God

Psalm 118:22–24 ESV
The stone that the builders rejected has become the cornerstone. This is the Lord’s doing; it is marvelous in our eyes. This is the day that the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it.
John 12:28 ESV
Father, glorify your name.” Then a voice came from heaven: “I have glorified it, and I will glorify it again.”

The Justification of Believers

Psalm 106:7–8 ESV
Our fathers, when they were in Egypt, did not consider your wondrous works; they did not remember the abundance of your steadfast love, but rebelled by the sea, at the Red Sea. Yet he saved them for his name’s sake, that he might make known his mighty power.
Romans 4:23–25 ESV
But the words “it was counted to him” were not written for his sake alone, but for ours also. It will be counted to us who believe in him who raised from the dead Jesus our Lord, who was delivered up for our trespasses and raised for our justification.
Galatians 2:20 ESV
I have been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live, but Christ who lives in me. And the life I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.

The Unification of God’s People

Acts 10:34–35 ESV
So Peter opened his mouth and said: “Truly I understand that God shows no partiality, but in every nation anyone who fears him and does what is right is acceptable to him.
Revelation 7:9–10 ESV
After this I looked, and behold, a great multitude that no one could number, from every nation, from all tribes and peoples and languages, standing before the throne and before the Lamb, clothed in white robes, with palm branches in their hands, and crying out with a loud voice, “Salvation belongs to our God who sits on the throne, and to the Lamb!”

The Simplicity of the Resurrection

1 Corinthians 2:2 ESV
For I decided to know nothing among you except Jesus Christ and him crucified.
Today, I claim nothing among you except Jesus Christ and him resurrected
