Men have always been hesitant to stop and ask for directions. They know where they are headed ultimately and that seems to be sufficient knowledge in their own estimation. So they stumble through. The damage that can be done, the wasted time and effort, the wrong turns that sometimes may lead us into jeopardy are the things that could be eliminated if we would understand that the will of God for our lives is in the journey not the destination. It is in the knowledge of his heart that we gain when we choose to take our direction from him.
The destination is the same for all of us as far as God’s will is concerned. There are no other alternative, eternal vacation options but heaven.
But he does have a different route for each of us to take and that has to do with our giftedness, our personality, the making of our character and others.
He continued his father’s journey - he had the same destination as his father from the start. His father settled short of his destination.
He had a promise from God.
He went directly to the destination and there he began to develop his relationship with God.
He did not rule the land that he lived in.
He understood that the promise was to be fulfilled through him to his descendants.
He built altars to the Lord.
He struggled with issues of trust as we do
What about God’s direction in my own life?
Micah 6:2 Hear, O mountains, the LORD's accusation; listen, you everlasting foundations of the earth. For the LORD has a case against his people; he is lodging a charge against Israel. 3 "My people, what have I done to you? How have I burdened you? Answer me. 4 I brought you up out of Egypt and redeemed you from the land of slavery. I sent Moses to lead you, also Aaron and Miriam. 5 My people, remember what Balak king of Moab counseled and what Balaam son of Beor answered. Remember your journey from Shittim to Gilgal, that you may know the righteous acts of the LORD." 6 With what shall I come before the LORD and bow down before the exalted God? Shall I come before him with burnt offerings, with calves a year old? 7 Will the LORD be pleased with thousands of rams, with ten thousand rivers of oil? Shall I offer my firstborn for my transgression, the fruit of my body for the sin of my soul? 8 He has showed you, O man, what is good. And what does the LORD require of you? To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God.
I fyou want to go where God is taking you then you take one step at a time, one foot in front of the other.
