Intro:

Here we are church yet again having another virtual service in this unprecedented pandemic season. Many of you like me have grown a bit fatigued by the lack of social activity, family gatherings, and church. I miss the mothers who would normally sit to my left, and the deacons who would sit to my right. I miss my shouters we all know them at our respective churches. I miss the spectators too the ones who are always watching and can tell you what everyone else did, but when you ask them where was their praise and they cannot answer. I miss it church with all of my heart, but it is better to be safe and sound than to be sorry. This is a season of unprecedented faith as well. Many of us can no longer hobo on someone else’s anointing. Since we are not able to come together like normal. You can’t just run the church altar and get some oil slapped on you and you go home feeling better. The choir can’t sing you happy like they did in full blown service. You can’t depend on your neighbors praise to pull you up. You can’t wait until the worship leader shouts and then you decide you want to have church. You can’t wait until the musician and the drummer hit that number. You can’t wait until the organ and the pastor tune up. Now you have to know Jesus for yourself. No organ, no drums, no hooping, no church shout, no favorite person singing, none of this is available. No body but you and God in your living room, your bedroom, your home office, your back yard, your prayer closet. Where ever you designate as that place, better yet how about make the whole house your sanctuary. God is transforming us from church folks to being the church! He is showing us who is dedicated, whois determined, who is dependable, who is faithful, who will persevere, who will trust HIM, who will obey him even in a time such as this. While we are in this season instead of fussing about the president, fussing about the governor, and fussing about the mayor why don’t we do something we haven’t done in a good while look in the mirror and see what God is showing us! Tell somebody God will show you!

Jesus comes in:

As we examine the text we see that the setting is on the backside of the victory over the grave. Jesus got up, but the disciples are still a little confused. Now church to be fair we must acknowledge the fact that the disciples are in grief and disbelief. They cannot believe that the one who fed five thousand, healed the sick, open blind eyes, made the lame walk, cleansed those stricken with leprosy, and even raised the dead had died. It was just unbelievable at that moment, because they had forgotten all the Jesus had taught them along the way. Church sometimes we have selective hearing too. We know that we all are mortal and this body has an expiration date, but we act as if we will live forever. That’s why the old folks used to always tell us get your house or your affairs in order because no man knows the day or the time of their departure. So we hear what we want or at least sometimes some things don’t sink in right away. Now Jesus is not in the tomb He has risen. Mary came back and told the disciples that she saw him, and just like men they didn’t believe her. Sometimes church we miss some of our greatest revelations and blessings because we are too busy looking at the person and miss the one who sent them! The bible says according to the Johanine account that on the third day evening the disciples were gathered together. I am sure they were retelling stories about Jesus and comforting one another during their hour of grieving. I am sure someone also probably asked the question what are we going to do now? In the midst of their anguish, ambiguity, astonishment, anger, and disbelief Jesus shows up! ome of you all missed your shout because right when you think you can’t take any more or that you are on the brink of collapse I want you to know if you belong to HIM he will show up! The Bible says that the doors was shut and yet Jesus appeared seemingly out of no where he showed them his scars. He showed them his hands and his side. The Bible says they rejoiced and were glad. Then Jesus commissioned them in verse 21, “So Jesus said to them again, “Peace to you! As the Father has sent Me, I also send you.” Jesus just doesn’t show up for no reason. He comes to remind them that there is work for the Lord to be done. Sometimes we expect God to show up and feel sorry for us, but God will come in with an assignment. Some of us are dealing with anguish and difficulties, because we are not on our assignment. When you get up and start doing what God has called you to do then things will begin to workout like God said they would. Then the book says he breathed the Holy Ghost upon them, because you cannot complete any assignments without proper tools. Jesus knew that they needed power to do the work he called them to so he breathed on them. Watch this when you understand that in the creation story that God formed Adam from the dirt. Everything was in place and everything looked good, but Adam was nothing but a lump of clay until God breathed into his nostrils! The word for wind or breath is Ruach. So when Jesus breathed on them he blew the spirit of God on them, because their work would be in vein had not the Holy Spirit came in to it! What are you saying pastor? I am glad you asked. We cannot do anything without the Holy Spirit! We need the Holy Ghost!

Close:

There is only one issue. Just like today somebody wasn’t there to witness what God did. Have you ever received something powerful from God and you have these spiritual buzz killers? You know the ones who will say I don’t believe that really happened. You know the ones who say the doctors did it. The ones who say my connections did it. The ones who say my finances did it. You know the ones who weren’t there when you went through what you went through. Sometimes folks see your glory but they don’t know the story! They see and hate on the blessings, but they weren’t in that room when you cried all night, when you was on the brink of bankruptcy or even in bankruptcy. They weren’t at the hospital when everyone turned their backs or at the courthouse when the judge hit that gavel. They weren’t there!! And because they were not there they can’t see what you can see or hear what you can hear so their only reprieve is to kill your spiritual buzz. I just want to tell somebody that you need to watch who you are hangin around are you dealing with spiritual buzz killers or spiritual believers! So here is Thomas! He said y’all can say what you want and get all of that but I am not believing anything until I see it for myself. Eight Days later the disciples were together again and this time Thomas was with them. The Bible says Jesus walks in again and says peace be unto you. He says Thomas come here. Touch Me! Can I say this church that Jesus loves us so much that before he allows us to go unbelieving He will show us. Close watch this church. How did they know it was Jesus, because the bible clearly declares that they did not physically recognize him. Let me give you one last shout before I go. People who really know you know where your scars are. See when you have a close and intimate relationship with someone they know where your scars are even the covered ones. Can I shout on this one thing before we go? Your scars will validate you! You may not look like what you been through, but the scars will validate you!
