In todays lesson we are going to cover a decent amount of scripture while covering these passages we will be dealing with many books of the Bible and will do our best to keep them up on the screen as we go.
I will not be able to cover every passage of scripture that deals with our need of salvation but we will by the end of this lesson be able to explain what the Bible says about us and our desperate need of Jesus christ.
I have broken this portion up into a couple videos, however i would encourage you to listen to all of them together if you are able to. If not i understand but would encourage you to take good note of theme of this lesson because the two will hinge together.

Why Do I need Salvation?

We must first ask why do i need salvation? For this answer we will begin in genesis and go through different portions of scripture to see our nature.

The Fall of Man

We will start with the fall of man. A preface before getting into the fall we must note that in the beginning God created. If you would like to know more about this i would encourage you to read the beginning of Genesis. God created a world that was good and a world that knew no sin or disobedience.
God gave one command to Adam and that was not to eat of the tree of knowledge of good and evil.
The Bible says.
Genesis 3:1–24 KJV 1900
Now the serpent was more subtil than any beast of the field which the Lord God had made. And he said unto the woman, Yea, hath God said, Ye shall not eat of every tree of the garden? And the woman said unto the serpent, We may eat of the fruit of the trees of the garden: But of the fruit of the tree which is in the midst of the garden, God hath said, Ye shall not eat of it, neither shall ye touch it, lest ye die. And the serpent said unto the woman, Ye shall not surely die: For God doth know that in the day ye eat thereof, then your eyes shall be opened, and ye shall be as gods, knowing good and evil. And when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree to be desired to make one wise, she took of the fruit thereof, and did eat, and gave also unto her husband with her; and he did eat. And the eyes of them both were opened, and they knew that they were naked; and they sewed fig leaves together, and made themselves aprons. And they heard the voice of the Lord God walking in the garden in the cool of the day: and Adam and his wife hid themselves from the presence of the Lord God amongst the trees of the garden. And the Lord God called unto Adam, and said unto him, Where art thou? And he said, I heard thy voice in the garden, and I was afraid, because I was naked; and I hid myself. And he said, Who told thee that thou wast naked? Hast thou eaten of the tree, whereof I commanded thee that thou shouldest not eat? And the man said, The woman whom thou gavest to be with me, she gave me of the tree, and I did eat. And the Lord God said unto the woman, What is this that thou hast done? And the woman said, The serpent beguiled me, and I did eat. And the Lord God said unto the serpent, Because thou hast done this, thou art cursed above all cattle, and above every beast of the field; upon thy belly shalt thou go, and dust shalt thou eat all the days of thy life: And I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed; it shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise his heel. Unto the woman he said, I will greatly multiply thy sorrow and thy conception; in sorrow thou shalt bring forth children; and thy desire shall be to thy husband, and he shall rule over thee. And unto Adam he said, Because thou hast hearkened unto the voice of thy wife, and hast eaten of the tree, of which I commanded thee, saying, Thou shalt not eat of it: cursed is the ground for thy sake; in sorrow shalt thou eat of it all the days of thy life; Thorns also and thistles shall it bring forth to thee; and thou shalt eat the herb of the field; In the sweat of thy face shalt thou eat bread, till thou return unto the ground; for out of it wast thou taken: for dust thou art, and unto dust shalt thou return. And Adam called his wife’s name Eve; because she was the mother of all living. Unto Adam also and to his wife did the Lord God make coats of skins, and clothed them. And the Lord God said, Behold, the man is become as one of us, to know good and evil: and now, lest he put forth his hand, and take also of the tree of life, and eat, and live for ever: Therefore the Lord God sent him forth from the garden of Eden, to till the ground from whence he was taken. So he drove out the man; and he placed at the east of the garden of Eden Cherubims, and a flaming sword which turned every way, to keep the way of the tree of life.
Sin entered the World here and had a dire consequence. Man would now die. Sin caused fear shame and guilt. More than that however sin separated man from God. It put a wedge in our relationship. We were created for fellowship with God but sin removed us from that.
Its not just about Adam and eve though lets take a look at a couple more passages of scripture.
Romans 5:12–21 KJV 1900
Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned: (For until the law sin was in the world: but sin is not imputed when there is no law. Nevertheless death reigned from Adam to Moses, even over them that had not sinned after the similitude of Adam’s transgression, who is the figure of him that was to come. But not as the offence, so also is the free gift. For if through the offence of one many be dead, much more the grace of God, and the gift by grace, which is by one man, Jesus Christ, hath abounded unto many. And not as it was by one that sinned, so is the gift: for the judgment was by one to condemnation, but the free gift is of many offences unto justification. For if by one man’s offence death reigned by one; much more they which receive abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness shall reign in life by one, Jesus Christ.) Therefore as by the offence of one judgment came upon all men to condemnation; even so by the righteousness of one the free gift came upon all men unto justification of life. For as by one man’s disobedience many were made sinners, so by the obedience of one shall many be made righteous. Moreover the law entered, that the offence might abound. But where sin abounded, grace did much more abound: That as sin hath reigned unto death, even so might grace reign through righteousness unto eternal life by Jesus Christ our Lord.
1 Corinthians 15:22 KJV 1900
For as in Adam all die, even so in Christ shall all be made alive.
Its evident as we go through scripture that sin may have entered the world with adam and eve but it is very much still a problem today.
A simple definition of sin is “disobedience to God.” This is sadly something we have all done and will suffer the consequences of sin.
Romans 6:23 KJV 1900
For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.
This is not just a physical death but an eternal separation from God.
Lets take it from the biblical level and make it more personal.

Our Personal Sin

Some Definitions of sin.
So most of us have never killed anyone or done anything super bad in our own opinion but remember sin is disobedience to God.
It can also be defined as transgression of God’s will, either by doing what he forbids or failing to do what he requires.
They are actions that violate the law or moral standard of God.
Lets take a look at just the first laws that were given to Moses.
Exodus 20:2–17 KJV 1900
I am the Lord thy God, which have brought thee out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage. Thou shalt have no other gods before me. Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth: Thou shalt not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them: for I the Lord thy God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate me; And shewing mercy unto thousands of them that love me, and keep my commandments. Thou shalt not take the name of the Lord thy God in vain; for the Lord will not hold him guiltless that taketh his name in vain. Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy. Six days shalt thou labour, and do all thy work: But the seventh day is the sabbath of the Lord thy God: in it thou shalt not do any work, thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, thy manservant, nor thy maidservant, nor thy cattle, nor thy stranger that is within thy gates: For in six days the Lord made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is, and rested the seventh day: wherefore the Lord blessed the sabbath day, and hallowed it. Honour thy father and thy mother: that thy days may be long upon the land which the Lord thy God giveth thee. Thou shalt not kill. Thou shalt not commit adultery. Thou shalt not steal. Thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbour. Thou shalt not covet thy neighbour’s house, thou shalt not covet thy neighbour’s wife, nor his manservant, nor his maidservant, nor his ox, nor his ass, nor any thing that is thy neighbour’s.
Have you ever put something in font of God?
In other words have you valued anything in your life including your life more than God?
If so you are guilty of just the first commandment.
Graven images are not as common in America but it is not a rare practice for people to make images of their God we are not to practice in this.
Not taking the Lords name in vain.
It is common practise in America to use Gods name in vain.
So common most people have done it
Remember the Sabbath Day Keep it Holy
Honor thy father and thy mother
This is one most of us as children failed more than one day at.
thou shalt not kill
probably most people here have never done this one.
mat 5:21-22
thou shalt not commit adultery
mat 5:27-28
draws a standard most people would have issues living up to.
thou shalt not steal
This includes things such as candy when you were a little kid.
thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbor
this includes gossip
thou shalt not covet thy neighbors goods
This is not just talking about your physical neighbor but the act on being envy of other peoples possessions.

Its not about comparing ourselves to someone else

the natural result when facing our sin is to compare ourselves with others. Although this is simple and natural and we may not in our opinion be the worst person, we are even good people we must weigh ourselves against Gods standards.
God as our creator has every right to set the standard, and judge us according.
knowing God has the right to judge us how he sees fit in what is right should drive us to realize one simple fact.

Doesn’t Take long for us to realize we have sinned

When we weigh ourselves to Gods standards we realize that we indeed are sinful people.
The Bible tells us all have sinned
Romans 3:23 KJV 1900
For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;
Knowing we are sinful people makes us realize we are in danger of eternal separation from God.
2 Thessalonians 1:8–9 KJV 1900
In flaming fire taking vengeance on them that know not God, and that obey not the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ: Who shall be punished with everlasting destruction from the presence of the Lord, and from the glory of his power;
The bright side is we don’t have to stay here lets move on and find out what salvation is and how we can receive it and no longer have to fear this eternal separation.
