THE PRAYING SAVIOR (Luke 18:1), ANYONE TODAY HAVE A “PRAYING MOM?” I SURE DO.

Luke 18:1 “One day Jesus told his disciples a story to show that they should always pray and never give up.” This means to be in an attitude of prayer day by day.

Jesus began His ministry by prayer—Luke 3:21 “One day when the crowds were being baptized, Jesus himself was baptized. As he was praying, the heavens opened,”..... He continued and ended with prayer—Luke 23:34 “Jesus said, “Father, forgive them, for they don’t know what they are doing.” And the soldiers gambled for his clothes by throwing dice.” He is now on the right hand of God praying for us—Hebrews 7:25 “Therefore he is able, once and forever, to save those who come to God through him. He lives forever to intercede with God on their behalf.”

Jesus prays that all Christians be ONE—John 17

Jesus teaches us how to pray—Matthew 6:9–13 “9 Pray like this: Our Father in heaven, may your name be kept holy. 10 May your Kingdom come soon. May your will be done on earth, as it is in heaven. 11 Give us today the food we need, 12 and forgive us our sins, as we have forgiven those who sin against us. 13 And don’t let us yield to temptation, but rescue us from the evil one.”

Jesus tells us to pray for workers (ministers), Matthew 9:38 “So pray to the Lord who is in charge of the harvest; ask him to send more workers into his fields.”

Now look at the example which Jesus sets for us in praying

WE ARE INSTRUCTED TO HAVE SECLUDED PRAYING—Mark 1:35 “Before daybreak the next morning, Jesus got up and went out to an isolated place to pray.”

He prayed in secret, and taught us to pray in secret—Matthew 6:6 “But when you pray, go away by yourself, shut the door behind you, and pray to your Father in private. Then your Father, who sees everything, will reward you."

Why pray in Secret? The need for secret prayer is for strength and power. Do we hear and listen better when we are alone in a quiet place?

A few years ago the movie came out, “The War Room” I believe was the title. War Room.......Why was the movie named “The War Room?” The power of secret prayer. Are we ever at war in this world?

Paul tells us in the book of Ephesians, chapter 6, “The whole Armor of God, fighting Spiritual Warfare. Ephesians 6:18 “Pray in the Spirit at all times and on every occasion. Stay alert and be persistent in your prayers for all believers everywhere.”

When we pray in private, or alone, WE WILL SPEND TIME IN WAITING BEFORE GOD, Isaiah 40:31 “But those who trust in the Lord will find new strength. They will soar high on wings like eagles. They will run and not grow weary. They will walk and not faint.”

ARE WE BEING SINCERE IN OUR PRAYING OR JUST GOING THROUGH THE MOTIONS?—LUKE DESCRIBES JESUS PRAYING: Luke 22:44 “He prayed more fervently, and he was in such agony of spirit that his sweat fell to the ground like great drops of blood.”

IT DOESN'T NEED TO BE A HABIT, OR A RITUAL, OR A TIMED EVENT ON YOUR PHONE. PRAYER NEEDS TO ORIGINATE FROM THE HEART.

Jesus prayed for the disciples, the ones He loved—John 17

He prayed for the needy—the sick, discouraged, and sinners like you and me. As Christians, we need to have this same desire

He prayed for His enemies—on the cross

He is now praying for us as I read in Heb. 7:25 earlier

GOD HEARS AND ANSWERS PRAYER FROM THE HEART

ARE WE PRAYING WITH A SUBMISSIVE HEART?—Luke 22:42 “Father, if you are willing, please take this cup of suffering away from me. Yet I want your will to be done, not mine.”

(Though Jesus was equal with God, He was willing to do what God had planned! He prayed, “Not my will, but thine be done”)

When we begin to pray like we are instructed in scripture, our prayers will be putting Jesus Christ first. (First in our plans, First in our life, First in our desires, and first in all that we do)

This praying will cause us to remember Christ, to maintain and cultivate a deeper relationship with Jesus—Proverbs 3:5–6 “5 Trust in the Lord with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding. 6 Seek his will in all you do, and he will show you which path to take.”

God’s will and way will be our will and way—then He will direct and guide us

NOW PAY ATTENTION CHURCH.........This praying will cause us to love God deeper with a more sincere love.........Matthew 22:37 “Jesus replied, “ ‘You must love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, and all your mind.’ Matthew 22:39 “A second is equally important: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’

So if Jesus prayed, went off to pray, knew the great need to pray, wouldn’t it seem like maybe, just maybe we should be focusing a greater effort, a heart to be praying more diligent, more fervent, more consistent? Notice that Jesus went often to this Garden to pray. Sometimes He prayed all night—He prayed while the disciples slept.

This praying gave Jesus wisdom

This praying gave Jesus strength

This praying gave Jesus communion with our Father

This praying gave Jesus power

Jesus, the Son of God took time to pray. If He, who was perfect had to pray, then how much more do we need to pray. SET A TIME IN EVERY DAY WHEN YOU TAKE SOME TIME ALONE TO PRAY! It will change your life! A praying person never backslides.

FINAL PRAYER.......

AMEN
