I Am The Good Shepherd

Jesus continues with the shepherd / sheep parables
so far Jesus has claimed to be God, He has sheep,
they know Him and He knows them
he is the shepherd of psalm 23
that the pastors of Jerusalem are thieves and robbers
who only care about themselves
Jesus again claims the is God, I AM
Here the word Good is as He is saying I am God
The only good Shepherd, not one of many
I am the good Shepherd because...

I lay My Life Down

John 10:11 AV
I am the good shepherd: the good shepherd giveth his life for the sheep.
a voluntary action
John 10:18 AV
No man taketh it from me, but I lay it down of myself. I have power to lay it down, and I have power to take it again. This commandment have I received of my Father.
Jesus on the cross
John 19:30 AV
When Jesus therefore had received the vinegar, he said, It is finished: and he bowed his head, and gave up the ghost.
Jesus death, was a conscious decision to die
Can we change for a minute?
to the bride and the groom
God The Father chose a Bride for Jesus before the foundation of the world
these are found in
John 6:65 NKJV
And He said, “Therefore I have said to you that no one can come to Me unless it has been granted to him by My Father.”
These are the same as the flock of Jesus
But the bride was not worthy , it belonged to satan, in bondage to sin
try as it might could not be the bride. the Chasm was to wide to cross
so The Father sent Jesus to earth to redeem His bride and to make her worthy to come into the family
in this next verse church is the same as bride
Ephesians 5:25–27 NKJV
Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ also loved the church and gave Himself for her, that He might sanctify and cleanse her with the washing of water by the word, that He might present her to Himself a glorious church, not having spot or wrinkle or any such thing, but that she should be holy and without blemish.
and to do this Jesus had to be the perfect sacrifice for his Seep/Bride
in the Old Testament the Sheep were the sacrifice to cover the sin
John the Baptist said it correctly
John 1:29 AV
The next day John seeth Jesus coming unto him, and saith, Behold the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world.
Jesus became the sacrificial lamb
Jesus died for His Sheep/ Bride
so this was a voluntary giving up his life
His love for His bride/ sheep is what motivated Him to the cross
Hebrews 12:2 AV
Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God.
But the power that gives Jesus the ability to make us His.
and giving us the power to His work comes from the resurrection
Hebrews 13:20–21 NKJV
Now may the God of peace who brought up our Lord Jesus from the dead, that great Shepherd of the sheep, through the blood of the everlasting covenant, make you complete in every good work to do His will, working in you what is well pleasing in His sight, through Jesus Christ, to whom be glory forever and ever. Amen.
The hireling
John 10:12–13 AV
But he that is an hireling, and not the shepherd, whose own the sheep are not, seeth the wolf coming, and leaveth the sheep, and fleeth: and the wolf catcheth them, and scattereth the sheep. The hireling fleeth, because he is an hireling, and careth not for the sheep.

I Know My Sheep

John 10:14 AV
I am the good shepherd, and know my sheep, and am known of mine.
Knows us our strength, weakness, likes - dislikes, and fears
Knows how different we are from another, - so don’t try to be like others
be yourself
we are helpless
to do anything spiritually good
Philippians 4:13 AV
I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.
Sheep are dead without the shepherd
wander into danger
wont run from a wolf
eat poisonous plants
cast themselves on their backs
we too will..
Jesus has been with the Father for eternity
John 10:14–15 AV
I am the good shepherd, and know my sheep, and am known of mine. As the Father knoweth me, even so know I the Father: and I lay down my life for the sheep.
Jesus knows us like he know the Father
Again Jesus tells us he died for the sheep
That is how great a love Jesus has for His Bride
Jesus, God the son
Through whom God the Father created the universe
Who lovingly formed man from the dust of the ground
He Gave is life as a ransom to buy back His sheep from death

Other Sheep

John 10:16 AV
And other sheep I have, which are not of this fold: them also I must bring, and they shall hear my voice; and there shall be one fold, and one shepherd.
the other sheep I have, are the gentiles
up until now He has been talking to the Jews, about the Jews that He took out as His sheep
I have— they are mine
Acts 18:9–10 NKJV
Now the Lord spoke to Paul in the night by a vision, “Do not be afraid, but speak, and do not keep silent; for I am with you, and no one will attack you to hurt you; for I have many people in this city.”
Jesus Said “I must bring them” some how they will hear the gospel and be saved —is it you that is telling them?
John 10:17–18 NKJV
“Therefore My Father loves Me, because I lay down My life that I may take it again. No one takes it from Me, but I lay it down of Myself. I have power to lay it down, and I have power to take it again. This command I have received from My Father.”
The love of Jesus kept him on the cross
Love held Him to the whipping post
not one hair would be touched without His consent

What Do You Say?

John 10:19–21 AV
There was a division therefore again among the Jews for these sayings. And many of them said, He hath a devil, and is mad; why hear ye him? Others said, These are not the words of him that hath a devil. Can a devil open the eyes of the blind?
Do you hear Jesus calling you?
do you hear the words of Jesus?
is he a madman? is he a demon possessed man?
or is He God? who came to earth to die in your place?
what are you going to do with His words?
John 3:16–19 AV
For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved. He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God. And this is the condemnation, that light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil.
