The Tribulation – What’s That? Sunday 24 May 2020 Ver 2.4 A/V The Tribulation – What’s That? The Bible clearly presents the tribulation, as a coming period of time. A period of seven years, that is characterized by wars, rumours of wars, nations rising against nations; Israel is returning to the land; a time of earthquakes, pestilence, and famine. A time of unbelief in God and Christ; a growing of the apostate (false) church, the unity of all faiths; One World Government and the rule of Antichrist. A period of time known as the tribulation or the time of great trouble. Quote “Grace to You” 1973 A/V Daniel 9:24-27 NLT Daniel 9:24 “A period of seventy sets of seven has been decreed for your people and your holy city to finish their rebellion, to put an end to their sin, to atone for their guilt, to bring in everlasting righteousness, to confirm the prophetic vision, and to anoint the Most Holy Place. V’s 25 Now listen and understand! Seven sets of 7 plus sixty-two sets of 7 will pass from the time the command is given to rebuild Jerusalem until a ruler—the Anointed One (Messiah) comes. Jerusalem will be rebuilt with streets and strong defences, despite the perilous times. V’s 26 After this period of sixty-two sets of seven the Anointed One will be killed, appearing to have accomplished nothing, and a ruler will arise whose armies will destroy the city and the Temple. The end will come with a flood, and war and its miseries are decreed from that time to the very end. V’s 27 The ruler will make a treaty with the people for a period of one set of seven, but after half this time, he will put an end to the sacrifices and offerings. And as a climax to all his terrible deeds, he will set up a sacrilegious object that causes desecration until the fate decreed for this defiler is finally poured out on him.” This passage from Daniel has three different time periods, or dispensations in it. 1/ Decree to rebuild temple (King Darius –v’s 25) to the death Anointed One (Messiah Jesus V’s 26) 2/ The Church age from the day of Pentecost : 50 days after resurrection up to now. This age is also known as “Season of Grace” The temple was destroyed by Rome in AD 70, by “The people of the prince to come” Ruler who will arise, the anti-christ’s rise signals the end of Church age. 3/ The tribulation : seven years of trials and turmoil’s – the last 3½ years of which are of such anguish and suffering, “as has never been seen on the Earth before, and never will be again” I spoke last Sunday Worse than Mustard gas in WW I More horrific than the Nazi holocaust Greater pain than the Killing Fields of Cambodia Surpassing the genocide in Bosnia. Corona Virus Covid 19 is NOT the tribulation, but it definitely is a warning – a wake-up call - to the church that “the mystery of lawlessness is already at work” . The tribulation is spoken of in Daniel 9-12 Matthew 24 2nd Thessalonians 2 Revelation 6-13 The word is a translation of Greek thlipsis – the great weight used to crush flour .. with the idea of crushing, pulverising or grinding you into a powder. Today we will look at seven titles of the tribulation. There is much more, but this is an overview A/V TIME of the Tribulation Seven sets of 7 + 62 sets of 7 – the Messiah A set of seven here is representing seven years 7 x 7 yrs = 49 + 62 x 7 = 434 483 Years Daniel 9:26 After 62 sets of 7 Anointed one killed Messiah Jesus The CHURCH AGE 2,000 years But there is one set of 7 remaining Daniel 9:27 One set of 7 Make a treaty .. Then two witnesses Testify with Fire from mouths 1260 days The beast anti-christ authority to continue 42 months A/V TREATY of the Tribulation Make a treaty with the people for one set of seven Amidst all the upheaval and turmoil in the Middle East – the anti-christ will broker a peace treaty with Israel and the surrounding (or more) nations. This will be significant for “World Peace” Daniel 9:27 This sets in place the start / timing of the seven years of the tribulation. But as we know the devil is a liar the father of lies Daniel 11:23 With deceitful promises he will make various alliances So he breaks the covenant – peace treaty A/V TYRANT of the Tribulation Daniel 11:21 Thessalonians 2:9 “ 2:10 A despicable man contemptible vile deceitful to do work of Satan with counterfeit power signs miracles try every kind evil deception to fool ones A master of deception a maniacal despot full of deviousness from the devil. He will be multiple times more demonic that Antiochus IV Nero and Stalin combined. In Revelation 13:3 we read that he is wounded, seemingly fatal, but he recovers – healed the world will marvel and give allegiance.
