Matthew 14:27–31 HCSB
27 Immediately Jesus spoke to them. “Have courage! It is I. Don’t be afraid.” 28 “Lord, if it’s You,” Peter answered Him, “command me to come to You on the water.” 29 “Come!” He said. And climbing out of the boat, Peter started walking on the water and came toward Jesus. 30 But when he saw the strength of the wind, he was afraid. And beginning to sink he cried out, “Lord, save me!” 31 Immediately Jesus reached out His hand, caught hold of him, and said to him, “You of little faith, why did you doubt?”

Jesus is the antidote to fear

Matthew 14:27 HCSB
27 Immediately Jesus spoke to them. “Have courage! It is I. Don’t be afraid.”

Jesus will stretch your faith

Matthew 14:28–29 HCSB
28 “Lord, if it’s You,” Peter answered Him, “command me to come to You on the water.” 29 “Come!” He said. And climbing out of the boat, Peter started walking on the water and came toward Jesus.
If you’re going to walk on water, you’ve got to get out of the boat.

Jesus will hold you when your faith is small

Matthew 14:30–31 HCSB
30 But when he saw the strength of the wind, he was afraid. And beginning to sink he cried out, “Lord, save me!” 31 Immediately Jesus reached out His hand, caught hold of him, and said to him, “You of little faith, why did you doubt?”
It’s easy to discredit Peter, but he DID make the step of faith.
It can’t be overstated enough that the key to walking on water was eyes fixed on Jesus, and the cause of the sinking was studying the storm.
saw the strength.. Jesus had come to him on that storm. and while he was in the boat he believed, but in the storm he sunk.
I love that Jesus caught him. And Jesus spoke to Peter about his faith, his little faith, even while they were still in the water.

Jesus is Lord over the Storm

Matthew 14:32 HCSB
32 When they got into the boat, the wind ceased.
I believe this infers that Jesus had a hand in the starting and stopping of the storm. The text doesnt say Jesus calmed the storm, I believe that is implied.
Jesus has the power to stop storms, but he also has the power to carry you in the midst of the storms.

Jesus deserves our Worship

Matthew 14:33 HCSB
33 Then those in the boat worshiped Him and said, “Truly You are the Son of God!”
This is one of many times the something happened with Jesus and the disciples that reinforced to them that He was the son of God, the Lord and master of their lives.
They worshipped him. Not just with a song. Not just with lip service, but with their devotion, their wills, and ultimately their lives.
