Hook:

Galatians 6:1–5 ESV
Brothers, if anyone is caught in any transgression, you who are spiritual should restore him in a spirit of gentleness. Keep watch on yourself, lest you too be tempted. Bear one another’s burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ. For if anyone thinks he is something, when he is nothing, he deceives himself. But let each one test his own work, and then his reason to boast will be in himself alone and not in his neighbor. For each will have to bear his own load.

Transgression

Brothers - Talking to Christians; we are family
Transgression - Not under the law but breaking the standard by which we live - What is the standard? Think the works of the flesh from a couple weeks ago
Galatians 5:16–21 ESV
But I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh. For the desires of the flesh are against the Spirit, and the desires of the Spirit are against the flesh, for these are opposed to each other, to keep you from doing the things you want to do. But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the law. Now the works of the flesh are evident: sexual immorality, impurity, sensuality, idolatry, sorcery, enmity, strife, jealousy, fits of anger, rivalries, dissensions, divisions, envy, drunkenness, orgies, and things like these. I warn you, as I warned you before, that those who do such things will not inherit the kingdom of God.
Caught - “caught by a sin” We run from sin as defined by God - but the picture is a sin being faster overtakes the one running (We are not looking to “catch” people but if a person caught up by sin - being exposed: hand in the cookie jar or trapped: entangled in)
What should happen?

Gentle Restoration

Restoration - setting a broken bone; goal bone back to new
Can anyone do it - Sure; better results from someone who knows what they are doing, has experiance, is mature. In church that is the “those who are sprirtual” - Not elite like drs, dont need classes or school, these are the mature.
Why? sin is not shrugged off - pat on the head - thats ok; sin is serious. but it also must be done gently
setting a bone can hurt terribly, fixing a wound can be tourchous. setting or fixing it wrong can lead terrible repercussions (rebreak? - Infecion?) dont wrench it around gentle.
Spiritualy same thing… hurt, no pain like church pain, fixing wrong. dont wrench it around, gentle
Restoration - goal beliver is back living for Jesus/ serving as was before or more (bad habit of once done/ always finished) Crossroads- we do not shoot the wounded.
Sin is serious, you can be Restored
also need mature to overcome temptation. While you are restoring another, we do not want to be overcome ourselves. happens all the time - swimmer struggle, send person after, now 2 need help.
Be careful - look at your own life to make sure you are living right. we each have our own load to carry. life not fair/different/even how grow up - each responsible for their life
Galatians 6:6–10 ESV
Let the one who is taught the word share all good things with the one who teaches. Do not be deceived: God is not mocked, for whatever one sows, that will he also reap. For the one who sows to his own flesh will from the flesh reap corruption, but the one who sows to the Spirit will from the Spirit reap eternal life. And let us not grow weary of doing good, for in due season we will reap, if we do not give up. So then, as we have opportunity, let us do good to everyone, and especially to those who are of the household of faith.

Actions have Consequences

first - vs 6 - this is why we pay pastors and leaders in church
what sow/also reap - you get out what you put in - computer brains - garbage in garbage out - today call it karma (not like Karma the religious concept)
cant fool, pull one over, pull wool over, deceive, swindle God. very simple math
Do works of the flesh (focus your life on your feelings, emotions, desires of the heart) = get corruption ( impairment of integrity, virtue, or moral principle - decay) - freind says: play stupid games, win stupid prizes
live for/with the Spirit (promote your own spiritual growth) = Eternal life (eternal rewards, beyond temporal ones)
Its hard to wait for eternity, we get caught up with the today and now

Never, Ever, Ever Give Up

Churchhill - England. total speech he gave (edited for time). really short - really true - or today, much less articulate never stop, never stopping...
never stopping doing what? doing good. do not wear down, never give up, the harvest, the reward is sure. But when? a the proper time. when is that? when God says its time. there is reward today but there is exponentially more reward in eternity.
As we have oportunity - we cannot help everyone.
man throwing tiny crabs in ocean (cannot help all but can help that one)
As you have opportunity

Do Good to Everyone; Especially other Believers in Jesus

Everyone - Deserve, don't deserved, enemy, friend (rioters, those loosing property and livlyhoods - those with covid - those who have lost jobs and busness waiting till allowed out)
Especially other belivers - Body/xvs (body first - as have oportunity) sometimes cant becouse have not opportunity, sometimes cant because dont have ability but especially take care of body/other xvs (local-Universal)
Engaging Fellowship - Cannot help with what dont know; sometimes that means we dont help like some would like, because it would not be doing good for them. but
Galatians 6:11–18 ESV
See with what large letters I am writing to you with my own hand. It is those who want to make a good showing in the flesh who would force you to be circumcised, and only in order that they may not be persecuted for the cross of Christ. For even those who are circumcised do not themselves keep the law, but they desire to have you circumcised that they may boast in your flesh. But far be it from me to boast except in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, by which the world has been crucified to me, and I to the world. For neither circumcision counts for anything, nor uncircumcision, but a new creation. And as for all who walk by this rule, peace and mercy be upon them, and upon the Israel of God. From now on let no one cause me trouble, for I bear on my body the marks of Jesus. The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with your spirit, brothers. Amen.

Parting Words

Paul ends with at review of what we have been looking at in Galatians
We are not under the law
Our justification/sanctification comes not by the law or our work by through faith in Jesus’ life, death, and resurrection
Through our justification we are a new creation
As new creations we need to live with/for God
Bottom Line

Do Good to Everyone; Especially other Believers in Jesus

Small Group Questions
We grow best in the community. When we gather and discuss God’s word in a safe environment we grow more like Him. If you are here at Crossroads we encourage you to join a Small Group and talk over the Questions below. The Questions in Bold, are great places for your group to start. The other questions are for further study. May God Bless you in your pursuit of Him - Pastor Neil
1) Have you ever gotten tired of doing the right thing? Why? Why is doing the right thing exhausting? What kind of toll is it on a person? Physical, mental, emotional? Why did you pick this type?
2) Read Galatians 6:1-10
3) What does Paul mean we should do good to everyone? Everyone, everyone or just some everyone? Why do you think that? can we help everyone all the time? why do you think that? Is there a group that we should focus on or give more weight to? Who? why them? where do you see that in this passage?
4) Paul says we should never stop doing good. Look at each of these sections of the passage we just read. How when these are put into practice are we doing good for another person? Would this be categorized as Everyone or a Christian? Does it mater? why or why not?
Galatians 6:1 Galatians 6:2-5 Galatians 6:6
5) What is one aspect of life the Holy Spirit has been nudging you about? What specifically will you start to do about it this week? Is this good news? Who can you share this with this week?
