Psalm 8:1-9 (Do not read as we just had an intro Video
Psalm 8:1–9 KJV 1900
1 O Lord our Lord, How excellent is thy name in all the earth! Who hast set thy glory above the heavens. 2 Out of the mouth of babes and sucklings hast thou ordained strength Because of thine enemies, That thou mightest still the enemy and the avenger. 3 When I consider thy heavens, the work of thy fingers, The moon and the stars, which thou hast ordained; 4 What is man, that thou art mindful of him? And the son of man, that thou visitest him? 5 For thou hast made him a little lower than the angels, And hast crowned him with glory and honour. 6 Thou madest him to have dominion over the works of thy hands; Thou hast put all things under his feet: 7 All sheep and oxen, Yea, and the beasts of the field; 8 The fowl of the air, and the fish of the sea, And whatsoever passeth through the paths of the seas. 9 O Lord our Lord, how excellent is thy name in all the earth!

Majestic Psalm

This is a Mejestic Psalm of which is quoted in the New testement in Direct reference to Jesues Christ.
Psalm 8 is quoted three times in the New testement
Matthew 21:8 KJV 1900
8 And a very great multitude spread their garments in the way; others cut down branches from the trees, and strawed them in the way.
Matthew 21:16 KJV 1900
16 And said unto him, Hearest thou what these say? And Jesus saith unto them, Yea; have ye never read, Out of the mouth of babes and sucklings thou hast perfected praise?
1 Corinthians 15:27 KJV 1900
27 For he hath put all things under his feet. But when he saith, all things are put under him, it is manifest that he is excepted, which did put all things under him.

God’s name is magnificent because of His Majesty (v.1-2)

Psalm 8:1–2 KJV 1900
1 O Lord our Lord, How excellent is thy name in all the earth! Who hast set thy glory above the heavens. 2 Out of the mouth of babes and sucklings hast thou ordained strength Because of thine enemies, That thou mightest still the enemy and the avenger.
Lord, our Lord, how magnificent is your name throughout the earth!
The word that the King james uses here is poor, notice it says excelent a much better word is Magificint which is used in all modern translations except for the New King James
The Psalmest is refering to how magnificient the name of the Lord is
the word litterally means
Mighty;
large; and beutiful
it is intended to give inspiring awe or reverence in the beholder and can be related to size strength, power, or authority
One intresting note here is the first three words the passage says
LORD our Lord
the first Lord is יהוה YAHWEH
The Name used for God of Isriel through Moses
notice in your text how the first lord is in all caps
the secound Lord is אָדוֹן ADON
A term refering to God reflecting athority
Therfore this could be translated Lord our Lord of authority how mejestic is your name
Is that not a much more bueteful and mejestic way to say things than Lolrd our Lord how exceent is your name
You have covered the heavens with your majesty.
His majesty is so great and so poweful it is esistent throughout the universe
Notice verse 2
Psalm 8:2 KJV 1900
2 Out of the mouth of babes and sucklings hast thou ordained strength Because of thine enemies, That thou mightest still the enemy and the avenger.
The Psalmest contridicts the weekness of infints with the enimies of God. The idea is even the words of the most helpless about God are used by God to defend his People.

God's name is magnificent because of his is love (vv. 3–4)

The Psalmest turns to God’s creation and reflects on
When I look at
the heavens
the moon
the stars
He understands that although
God has put all theese in place
Dispite all this power God still cLoves and cares for us
notice verse 4
Psalm 8:4 KJV 1900
4 What is man, that thou art mindful of him? And the son of man, that thou visitest him?
He askes God has done all theese things why do you care about me
that word visitith does not mean he comes to our house...
it means he looks after us, notice the CSB rendering
Psalm 8:4 CSB
4 what is a human being that you remember him, a son of man that you look after him?

His name is magnificent because of his grace (vv. 5–8)

Psalm 8:5–8 KJV 1900
5 For thou hast made him a little lower than the angels, And hast crowned him with glory and honour. 6 Thou madest him to have dominion over the works of thy hands; Thou hast put all things under his feet: 7 All sheep and oxen, Yea, and the beasts of the field; 8 The fowl of the air, and the fish of the sea, And whatsoever passeth through the paths of the seas.
The Psalmest reflects on man...
dispite all that we saw above,
1. you have made man a little lower than the heavenly beings
2. crowned man with glory and honor.
3. You have given man dominion over the works of your hands;
4. you have put all things under man’s feet,
All sheep
oxen,
beasts of the field,
birds of the heavens,
the fish of the sea,
whatever passes along the paths of the seas.
Think back to the garden, God was all poerful yet he gave man dominion over the earth
take it a step foward, when adam and eve sinned he could have started over, but he did not
is our God not wonderful?

final verse

Psalm 8:9 KJV 1900
9 O Lord our Lord, how excellent is thy name in all the earth!
The name of our Lord is Majestic… Shout it it out!
