II Kings 19 “God will not help you”

Introduction:  Hezekiah was a good King and tried to service God the right way. He was King of Judah for 29 years.

Hezekiah refused to pay tribute to the king of Assyria as his father did before him.

So now the Assyrian army has come to collect or take over the kingdom.

I.       Messengers from the King of Assyria

A.    2 Kings 19:10-13,10 Thus shall ye speak to Hezekiah king of Judah, saying, Let not thy God in whom thou trustest deceive thee, saying, Jerusalem shall not be delivered into the hand of the king of Assyria. 11 Behold, thou hast heard what the kings of Assyria have done to all lands, by destroying them utterly: and shalt thou be delivered? 12 Have the gods of the nations delivered them which my fathers have destroyed;

B.    They told Hezekiah that other countries gods did not help them, so why would yours

C.    Your God will not help you

D.    They even went as far as tell all those who could listen to them from the walls, that their king was going to tell them that God will help

1.     The King of Assyria told all the people that could hear not believe their King who believes that his God will deliver them

II.     Does not the world tell us the same thing

A.    We hear it on TV and radio every day

1.     I heard it on Ophara the other day about the gay

2.     It has been said, If you tell a lie long enough people will start to believe it

B.    It put doubts in our mind will God take care of us

1.     We want everything right away

2.     If it does not happen right away we start doubting God

III.    Hezekiah believe God could take care of them

A.    Hezekiah goes to God in prayer

1.     2 Kings 19:14-15,14 And Hezekiah received the letter of the hand of the messengers, and read it: and Hezekiah went up into the house of the LORD, and spread it before the LORD. 15 And Hezekiah prayed before the LORD, and said, O LORD God of Israel, which dwellest between the cherubims, thou art the God, even thou alone, of all the kingdoms of the earth; thou hast made heaven and earth

B.    Even tough the King of Assyria tried to discourage Hezekiah, he kept his faith and prayed to God

1.     When we look around us everyday there is always discouraging things facing us

2.     We need to be like Hezekiah and when that happens go to God in prayer

a)     Remember this verse: Proverbs 3:5-6, 5 Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. 6 In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths

C.    God answers Hezehaka’s prayer

1.     2 Kings 19:20,20 Then Isaiah the son of Amoz sent to Hezekiah, saying, Thus saith the LORD God of Israel, That which thou hast prayed to me against (sî-nàk¹er-îb) Sennacherib king of Assyria I have heard.

32 Therefore thus saith the LORD concerning the king of Assyria, He shall not come into this city, nor shoot an arrow there, nor come before it with shield, nor cast a bank against it. 33 By the way that he came, by the same shall he return, and shall not come into this city, saith the LORD. 34 For I will defend this city, to save it, for mine own sake, and for my servant David’s sake. 35 And it came to pass that night, that the angel of the LORD went out, and smote in the camp of the Assyrians an hundred fourscore and five thousand: and when they arose early in the morning, behold, they were all dead corpses.

2.     The Angles of the Lord kills 185,000 Assyrian solders

3.     God answers the kings prayers

Conclusion:

All the other gods of the world did nothing to help the other kingdoms and they knew that. But this time they mess with the true God and they got burned.

And the true God of the universe takes care of His people.

We who are saved are God's people and He will take care of us

Are we living the same life King Hezekiah did? Only you can answer that question.
