Have you ever been to a team building event?

Where you do all these crazy things that are supposed to help you be a better team?
Back in the day the big thing used to be getting with your team and doing a trust fall
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=daTgQzPddYk
Now I don’t care who you are… that’s funny.
Look it’s not that I don’t trust you guys or even the people on our team...
I’m 6’6” 250, this is a lot of man to be trying to catch!

Trust is a difficult thing!

Whether it’s trusting that the bungee cord is going to hold you when you jump or that the guy on the other side of the 4 ways stop knows who got there first, trust is hard to do!
But Proverbs tells us to do that very thing!
Proverbs 3:5-6
Proverbs 3:5–6 ESV
Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths.
Solomon tells us to trust in the Lord with ALL our heart
in this period of time it can seem a little crazy to trust God with all that we are but this is a lesson in chaos that we HAVE to learn!
One of my favorite songs is Tis So Sweet (to trust in Jesus)
Tis so sweet to trust in Jesus, Just to take him at his word, Just to rest upon his promise, Just to knot thus sayeth the Lord, Jesus, Jesus How I trust him, How I’ve proved him o’er and o’er, Jesus, Jesus Precious Jesus, oh for grace to trust him more
There is a special PEACE when we get to a place where we Trust
To know that no matter what goes on around us or in our lives, we KNOW that God has this.

Now I never paid very much attention in English class, especially when we learned to diagram sentences

But As I sat down to study, this is what I came up with.
PIC OF VERSE BREAKDOWN.
SO I broke this down and the verse tell us to do 3 things and when we do those 3 things, there will be a specific outcome.
Today I want to look through that together and see how we can learn this lesson from Chaos.

Trust In The Lord With ALL Your Heart...

Since this is the crux of the verse I think we need to break this down a little more (Not and English Lesson, but hey let’s learn some Hebrew together!)
Trust - Batach (Ba - Tack)
This means to have confidence, be bold, be secure
Man when I read this I got Lit!!
Trusting God leads to confidence, boldness and security!
There is something different about being able to do something confidently.
Riding a bike, driving a car, eating at your trusted restaurant or Like when Ryan sends me music to listen to
At my job my ability to help customers went WAY UP when I had confidence in what I was talking about!
When we trust God we have confidence that what he says, does, asks us to do is the final say!
What confidence that will bring and what a difference it will make in our ability to do kingdom work!
When we are confident that the leader that we are serving under is following the voice of God that WE HAVE CONFIDENCE IN, it takes our ability to do kingdom work to a new level!
Having confidence in God gives us the ability to be bold with our faith and how God has changed us and used us and how he can do the same with those around us!
But trusting God brings security.
In knowing that God has us, that he will protect us and that he will guide us!
But trust has to be complete
We cannot partially trust God (girl in the video)
We have to trust him completely
The Proverb says to “trust in the Lord with ALL your heart”
To understand what that is saying we have to understand what significance the HEART plays in this sentence.
Physical heart - Pumps blood, keeps us alive - SIGNIFIES LIFE
But in a biblical perspective the heart is much deeper than that
It is the center of the physical, mental and spiritual life of us as humans
All the functions of the mind and soul were attributed to the heart
The feeling and affections we have are connected to the heart
In the biblical perspective, the heart came to stand as the PERSON as a WHOLE
The heart then has to be attributed to being the root of the problem, where God can do his work. (EXPAND ON THIS HERE)
WE have to allow God to TRANSFORM our hearts in a way that we could never imagine
He won’t do that if we do not trust him...
He won’t force us into transflormation
When we look at trusting God with our heart we have to know that this means we trust in him with ALL THAT WE ARE.
We have to trust in him completely

And Do Not Lean On Your Own Understanding

Trusting in God leads us from our own knowledge, discernment and wisdom to trusting in God’s
Have you ever leaned against something that you thought was going to hold you but it doesn’t?
That is what it is like to trust in something other than God! (Maybe use the video illustration from Facebook here?)
Isaiah 26:3-4
Isaiah 26:3–4 ESV
You keep him in perfect peace whose mind is stayed on you, because he trusts in you. Trust in the Lord forever, for the Lord God is an everlasting rock.
How do you react in chaos?
I have found myself in the last few years having more anxiety
I get stressed out a lot more than I ever have
It seems like everything gets to me more than it evee had
Even when Corona hit I found myself getting discouraged and depressed because my friends were hurting, all the craziness that is threw our country into and I couldn’t be with my people
But because we have started talking about these lessons we need to learn, i learned that while I don’t understand everything that is going on, I understand that God loves me and wants what is best for me.
Matthew 6:26-34
Matthew 6:26–34 ESV
Look at the birds of the air: they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they? And which of you by being anxious can add a single hour to his span of life? And why are you anxious about clothing? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow: they neither toil nor spin, yet I tell you, even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these. But if God so clothes the grass of the field, which today is alive and tomorrow is thrown into the oven, will he not much more clothe you, O you of little faith? Therefore do not be anxious, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ For the Gentiles seek after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them all. But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you. “Therefore do not be anxious about tomorrow, for tomorrow will be anxious for itself. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble.
EXPAND HERE ON THIS PASSAGE
I find that when I am leaning on my own understanding, I am moving away from pursuing God and what he has for me in the moment that doesnt make sense.
When I am doing that, I know that I am not allowing God to be in all of me

In All Your Ways Acknowledge Him

The word for the phrase “acknowledge him” is yada (yah-deh)
It means to know by experience, to be acquainted with
How well do you know God?
How much time do you spend reading and praying?
How involved is God in your daily activities?
Psalm37:3-6
Psalm 37:3–6 ESV
Trust in the Lord, and do good; dwell in the land and befriend faithfulness. Delight yourself in the Lord, and he will give you the desires of your heart. Commit your way to the Lord; trust in him, and he will act. He will bring forth your righteousness as the light, and your justice as the noonday.
To “know God in all your ways” is to invite his presence into ALL daily activities and decisions.
Matthew Henry’s commentary of this verse says it like this...
When we look abroad we see the world full of evil-doers, that flourish and live in ease. So it was seen of old, therefore let us not marvel at the matter. We are tempted to fret at this, to think them the only happy people, and so we are prone to do like them: but this we are warned against. Outward prosperity is fading. When we look forward, with an eye of faith, we shall see no reason to envy the wicked. Their weeping and wailing will be everlasting. The life of religion is a believing trust in the Lord, and diligent care to serve him according to his will. It is not trusting God, but tempting him, if we do not make conscience of our duty to him. A man's life consists not in abundance, but, Thou shalt have food convenient for thee. This is more than we deserve, and it is enough for one that is going to heaven. To delight in God is as much a privilege as a duty. He has not promised to gratify the appetites of the body, and the humours of the fancy, but the desires of the renewed, sanctified soul. What is the desire of the heart of a good man? It is this, to know, and love, and serve God. Commit thy way unto the Lord; roll thy way upon the Lord, so the margin reads it. Cast thy burden upon the Lord, the burden of thy care. We must roll it off ourselves, not afflict and perplex ourselves with thoughts about future events, but refer them to God. By prayer spread thy case and all thy cares before the Lord, and trust in him. We must do our duty, and then leave the event with God. The promise is very sweet: He shall bring that to pass, whatever it is, which thou has committed to him.
If we do these three things, the Proverb tells us that “He will make straight your paths”
The translated phrase there is “to make your path right”
How many of you feel lost (don’t have to raise hand)
OR you feel like the the path you are on is the wrong one
Or you really feel like you are in the middle of chaos?
If we are trusting God with all our heart, leaning on his wisdom and guidance and committing our ways to him then the path will be straight, it will be right
If it doesn’t feel that way for you then what part of this are you missing?

Now What

Do you really trust???
Psalm 28
Psalm 28 ESV
Of David. To you, O Lord, I call; my rock, be not deaf to me, lest, if you be silent to me, I become like those who go down to the pit. Hear the voice of my pleas for mercy, when I cry to you for help, when I lift up my hands toward your most holy sanctuary. Do not drag me off with the wicked, with the workers of evil, who speak peace with their neighbors while evil is in their hearts. Give to them according to their work and according to the evil of their deeds; give to them according to the work of their hands; render them their due reward. Because they do not regard the works of the Lord or the work of his hands, he will tear them down and build them up no more. Blessed be the Lord! For he has heard the voice of my pleas for mercy. The Lord is my strength and my shield; in him my heart trusts, and I am helped; my heart exults, and with my song I give thanks to him. The Lord is the strength of his people; he is the saving refuge of his anointed. Oh, save your people and bless your heritage! Be their shepherd and carry them forever.
You have to know… God’s Got this
No matter what happens from today on, God is our strength and shield
Our hearts can and SHOULD trust Him
If you are feeling lost and on the wrong path, trust in God with EVERYTHING, Commit your everyday life to him and let him put you on the straight path
IF you are trusting a little but not completely then maybe we need to pray what the father prayed in Mark 9:24Mark 9:24
Mark 9:24 ESV
Immediately the father of the child cried out and said, “I believe; help my unbelief!”
If you have been in the pit but God has brought you out, thank him for bringing you out and setting you on His rock.
If you are trusting God completely then show those around you who are struggling through your actions and words
Let people know about what God has done in your trust!
If you are in here today and you don’t trust God to even have a relationship with him, start there.
Trust that he gave Jesus as the perfect sacrifice for our sins and that he wants to make your path right
As we take communion today, commit to trusting him with everything in you life and give him praise for giving his son to set you free from sin and put you on the right path.
