Wholehearted Trust

Deep Reliance on the Lord

Too many of us live in the shallow end of faith.
We are comfortable living our life when we are in control—when we are determining the direction we take—when we are making our own decisions. We play it safe.
We have bought into the unbiblical thought that God helps those who helps themselves.
But reliance on God acknowledges that life can only be lived in the security of God presence and His will.
Proverbs 18:10 ESV
10 The name of the Lord is a strong tower; the righteous man runs into it and is safe.
Psalm 18:2 ESV
2 The Lord is my rock and my fortress and my deliverer, my God, my rock, in whom I take refuge, my shield, and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold.
Psalm 91:1–2 ESV
1 He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High will abide in the shadow of the Almighty. 2 I will say to the Lord, “My refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust.”
Trust is a deep reliance on the Lord.

Settled Confidence in His Care

Do we really believe that God’s cares for us? And, what does that care look like?
Fear, doubt, anger, stress—hinder our confidence in God — and His compassionate work in our lives.
Trust is a settled confidence—a firm faith in God and His love for us.
This settled confidence leads us to action.
1 Peter 5:7 NLT
7 Give all your worries and cares to God, for he cares about you.
Think about your worries—your fears—your frustrations—when was the last time you gave it to God—everything to God?
Let me add one more principle when it comes to trust with God.

Faithfulness to His Word

Trust in God is trust in His Word.
Problem: Bible illiteracy is a big problem.
Many professing Christians today in America have minimal knowledge of God’s Word. Too many have bought into the notion that it is not necessary to know Scripture.
However, there is an undeniable link between trust (faith) and knowing God’s Word.
Romans 10:17 ESV
17 So faith comes from hearing, and hearing through the word of Christ.
Trust is knowing God’s Word and doing it.
Next Sunday we will look at the connection between faith and obedience.
Conclusion
Do you have a deep reliance on the Lord?
Do you have a settled confidence in God’s care?
Do you have a committed faithfulness to God’s word?
These are essential to establishing truth with God!
