morning, Crossroads

I'm so glad that I could be here and talk. Oh, yes.

you know, there's an interesting thing that

I really feel it's important for me to learn about and that is leadership and Leadership is has become kind of this like multimillion-dollar industry. I mean, it's crazy between podcasts and books whether you grew up listening to a Zig Ziglar or a John Maxwell or Bill hybels or today at the Patrick Lencioni or Andy Stanley or Greg Purcell in in our culture. And even our church world are are deemed as these are leaders. It is many more. I mean, it doesn't take long to find a podcast or some kind of teaching on leadership. Many of these people like the Andy Sammy's in the Kray course Elton John Maxwell realized there was a great Gap within the church when it came to leadership. They weren't intentional about equipping people to step into leadership roles. And so whether he's wise they been successful in developing and creating leaders and for me to go to the years as I followed and read lots of books with lots of podcast that there's really nothing new Under the sun when it comes to leadership. It's all there. There's lots of leadership right here in this Bible take a chance to really look through it and read about it. Fart for me my ability to lead the way I do today in all of its goodness and all of its not so good at times about because of a couple of things one. I'm a student of leadership and I I listen to podcasts on a regular basis by people who lied great leaders in our men or women of Integrity when it comes to leadership have lots of books on leadership. If you're looking for a book to read on leadership just contact me if I've got three shelves of books on leadership and I'll tell you which ones I think are the best and that kind of stuff but I know that being a good leader is important for me in so I'm I'm learning every day trying to figure that out. The second thing that makes me lead the way I lead today is is that I have discovered the type of leader got traded to me to be no two leaders are like good leadership books deal with leadership principles. I used to feel when I was younger. I didn't think I was the leader. I didn't think I had what it takes to become a leader everybody else. You know, what were the leaders but there's a crazy thing is I was growing up and we had a staff day away the other day or night with our staff is growing up. I was always placed in positions of leadership who just crazy and weird. It's a great book about leadership and he talked about the different styles of leaders the different kinds of leaders also, Oh, yeah. Okay. Now I have because I was trying to leave like the bill hybels of the world or the Andy Stanley's of the world and that's not what God wants me to do. He wants me to lead the way he has made me what makes me a leader today is my failures. If you really take a chance, I'm looking deeply at your failures. You can learn more about how to succeed spec. I've learned more from my failures test for my successes with I've come to leadership. And so I'm I'm the leader today because of the many dumb things. I've done throughout the years.

Is a message earlier is this book has a lot to say about leadership. In fact, if you really think about it, what is God do God usually calls a person to lead his people.

Whether it's Abraham or Moses or Joshua or David or even Esther or Deborah is moving to the new test James and John the other disciples get Paul and Timothy Chloe and Phoebe and Priscilla all people who had different leadership positions in the church. The point is God uses people to lead people. Last week John talked about the fruit of servant leadership as we're going through 1st Corinthians in kind of gave you an overview of chapter 4 in leadership influence and Leadership. That is Authority John Maxwell one of the great leaders of our time when you asked him to define leadership leadership. is influencer in other words if you have influence on somebody your leader. If you're a stay-at-home mom and you influence your little ones I know sometimes you made me feel like you're not having influence on your little ones cuz you're running like crazy. You are a leader. Because of the influence if you're an employee not employer in the company another employee. You are a leader. If you're a teenager.

Cheerleader if you have influence on other teenagers or even if you have any influence on a teacher the point is we all have influence on other people which means that we take rules of leadership at some point.

The other leadership the John talked about was the leadership Authority the mrs. If you're put in a position of authority, if you're a boss or a coach or teacher or even a parent, do you have this position of authority the crazy things about leadership as Authority as position is sometimes you can have the title but have no influence. Because you're a lousy leader. Nobody wants to follow if you don't have anybody following you.

There are some places we all probably have had experience with this. We maybe have had a boss or a teacher or somebody who was in a position of authority over us that really influence us at all.

In 1st Corinthians, 1:10, which is the beginning of this series of annuity Paul tells the church be United in the same mind and the same judgment. This message of leadership leadership that is influencing even really has the messages in this chapter 1 verse to be United in the same mine in the same judgment.

We influence others better. when our mind and our hearts are on Christ Jesus

sometimes we think that it's pretty impossible to be of the same mind in the same judgment divided our culture and even the church is part of the thing is a lot of the church don't have our mind and heart on Christ. You see if I have the mind and Heart of Jesus. I have to surrender my life to Jesus. I Surrender my life to Jesus in chapter 2 verse 16 Paul says that we have the mind of Christ, but remember our conversation from a few weeks ago.

grow up This is why we have a hard time in the church and in our world from coming together and being unified because there were a bunch of babies.

If that label fits wear it. That's a lie for you to judge for me to do but the question is later chapter chapter 3 out of your flesh. Are you living out of the natural person or are you living by the spirits? If you live by the flesh then you're a baby. Just saying there's a pause words not mine.

Different kinds of leadership that I just want to touch on a real quickly. First of all, there's transactional leadership. This is the style of leadership in which the leader compliance to the job to the organization through rewards and punishments. This is been around forever transactional leader. You do the work that I want you to do to grow my company or or to make me more money and I'll pay you some money. If you don't then I will fire you transactional. That's it. Some places for transactional leadership. But in the long run transactional leadership doesn't work in the long run. Servant leadership is the other leadership philosophy, which has really come about in the last 50 years or so. The main goal of a servant leader is to serve kind of flips you upside-down boss is on the bottom. And is there just serve classic example that we use in the Church of Jesus Christ. Jesus came and not be served. The leader is there to help their employees to succeed. way better style leadership, but it's another style leadership that I've really grown to enjoy that transformational leadership. Transformational leadership is the process of creating and sustaining and enhancing the relationship between leader and followers. So the organization and the people New York change for the way they're supposed to be As a transformational leader. My goal is to partner with the people that I'm working with. So they become the person God has created them to be it's not about the bottom line. It's not a transactional thing. It's I'm here to support you to partner with you. transformational leadership in an organization is this my desire as a transformational leader is the partner with all of you to help make and change Crossroads Church that God created the church to be It's all about change all about transformation from the inside out.

I don't like transactional leadership at all. I try to steer void process as much as I can. I'm on the servant leadership. But even the thing that drives me is transformation. Someone help you be transformed in that process. Here's a quick example of transformational Leader Peter. The night before Jesus dies. Jesus comes up to Peter and sets theater Satan has asked to sift you out.

I'm praying for you that you don't lose your face.

Transactional leadership would be a beer same as ask you to desist you up. You better do right, or you're done you no longer my team. as transactional

servant leadership is more. Hey Peter just sift you off, but I'm going to let him sniff me out instead so you don't have to.

Transformational leadership is a Peter Satan has asked to sift you out. I'm praying for you. I'm here. We know the conclusion or the Journey of that transformational leadership was when Peter and Jesus met together after Jesus rose again.

Feed my sheep. That's transformational leadership.

Here's a scary thing. That was just my introduction. Just so you know.

I wanted to share all that with you walkthrough some things that I think are important for us in order to be faithful stewards like Paul Assets in chapter 4 of 1st Corinthians Bible verse 1

Follow along on the screen if you like.

starting with verse 1 this is how one should regard us as Servants of Christ and stewards. of the mysteries of God Moreover it is required of stewards that they be found faithful. But with me it is a very small thing that I should be judged by you by any human impact. I don't even judge myself. Try not to wear of anything against myself, but I am not there by acquitted.

Therefore do not pronounce judgments before the time before the Lord comes he will bring to light the things now hidden in darkness.

Each one will receive his Commendation from God. I have applied all these things myself and Apollo's for your benefit Brothers by us. Not to go beyond. What is none of you maybe pasta in favor of one against the other four who sees anything different in you? What do you have that you did not receive if they can you received it. Why do you boast as if you did not receive it?

Their text today Paul is wanting the church to see Apollo's and Paul and cephas. It's service. Is Stewart's? the mysteries of God not owners

So today we're going to talk about four ways that you can be a faithful steward Before we got into that we think we kind of need to know what a steward is because we don't use that term or have those kind of people is much in. Our culture a student is one who is in charge of all that the master owns probably the nearest we would have today's of an estate manager or manager or something else. We stepped into this role with our parents as they get older our parents but we step into a store where were helping them manage all that kind of stuff. That's probably the closest we can come to in our culture. I think of what a steward is back in this culture that the budget for the household purchasing house collection of General running of the establishment.

Only as instructed within the guidelines agreed by the employer or the head of the house. Stuart had to follow those guidelines. This is

one of my favorite movies / books of all times the Lord of the Rings near here. There's a scene in Lord of the Rings Return of the King where the City of Gondor which is as big city with this giant White Castle is going to be attacked from the enemy the wizard in Pippin. Who is The Hobbit from the Shire by the way, the shires have breakfast second breakfast and sometimes third breakfast. I could live in the Shire just saying.

Bidet Dave Gandalf and Pippin the City of Gondor and they come in to talk to the steward of the city named Dennis. And the reason why they come and talk to him is because there is no King and there hasn't been any over Gondor for many generations.

Enlisting denethor is a steward and he's morning because his son has this son is the one who would follow him in his footsteps. If you see from this picture up here. Hope you can kind of see it. You see the little guy in front that's pimping The Hobbit little the Wizards then white then you can see denethor in his throat or sitting on his seat, but want you to notice that the king of the throne is up higher and is empty. This is significant because denethor is the steward and not the king and so that that's important.

The throne is empty because there is no King. We're going to watch a a little clip about from from this scene.

Dennis Hall son of a steward of Gondor

I come with Tidings in this stock and with console. Apps you come to explain this.

To tell me why.

My Kinsman and me he fell defending us from manifolds

I offer you my service such as a test. in payment of this debt

get up. I'll or there will be a time to grieve for about a minute. Body does not now. war is coming The enemy is on the own toast. Ask you what you want charged with the defense of the city.

You still have friends you are not alone in this fight. Send word to Seattle Light the beacons. You think you are wise mithrandir? It literally was Socrates you have not wisdom.

Do you think the eyes of a white daughter blind? I have seen more than you know. With your left hand you would use me as a shield to get smarter. And with your right Q-tip to supplant me. I know who rides with the added up Rohan. Oh, yes. What is reached? My ears of is Aragorn son of arathorn that I tell you now, I will not bow to this Ranger from the north to the Ragged house long have launched by The Return of the King.

Roblox talk Doris, Martin

I want to see a couple things that were stated first of all. Gandalf says to denethor as a steward you are charged with the defense of the city. This is one of the guidelines that was set up for Dennis or what he was supposed to do, but he wasn't doing it because he was mourning death or is also a dance is preparing to bring the king back or the next heir to the throne back to sit on the throne and Denver's problem said he was not going to bow down to the strangers.

Who been a long time? Since it can you set on the throne and so denethor and his ancestors had all been used to being in charge and ruling over this city Gandalf's response was this Authority has not been given to you to deny the Return of the King. And then he emphasizes his title Stewart. The boys I've tried to get you or is this a steward role guidelines to follow?

The king gives him that Saint Denis horse response against the rule of gandor is mine and no others except Beyond his title Beyond Authority. Apollo's and cephas Peter himself as service who are stewards of the gospel That's the role. That's the responsibility today have no other authority no other job that's their assignments.

If I'm placed in a position of leadership whether its Authority or influence. I need to view myself as a servant as a steward of the Authority or the role that I that haven't given me.

So is this earlier there are four things. I want to know in order to be good faithful stewards. The first thing is this the real king.

First one chapter 4 Paul Paul says that he is a servant of Christ and it is Christ Mysteries that they are stewards of Christ's.

40 comes from Christ not Furman self

Storage Authority comes from the King Matthew 28:18. I have been given all authority in heaven on Earth. Jesus. Jesus is one call The Authority. I don't have it on my own. Someone with authority has received it from God. Paul is a steward of the message of the gospel. And that's where his authority lies.

Baby dinosaur. He said he was not going to bow down by Paul saying I'm a servant of Christ. I'm falling down before Christ because Christ my king.

This is important for us and it's a good reminder for me to bring up what I said before and that is when we pray in the name of Jesus. Jesus is Donald magical word to get what we want when I pray in the name of Jesus. I'm in essence saying this I bow before the King Jesus is the one with authority. I don't have the authority authority comes from the authority I am.

Is because I'm a steward in a must follow the guidelines that Jesus the king of set before me.

You see the enemy is knocking at our door steps. If we are charged to defend the church the body of Christ in that's where our battle is. Our battle is not against flesh and blood but against Satan and his army in our weapons are not of this realm and they are Define divine for pulling down strongholds. And all of that comes in the name in the authority of Jesus and we have power to take down strongholds not because we are stewards and Servants of Jesus Christ the King have the power.

Paul says in Colossians, 3:17 and whatever you do everything because Jesus is the king. You and I are servants stewards of the mysteries of God. The second way to be good and faithful servant or second thing we need to know is we need to know what the real ja.

Function within the guidelines set by the king or the owner. It is a requirement of the steward to be found faithful and being faithful means I know what my job is and I do it. Back in chapter 1 of 1st Corinthians verse 17. Paul says that his job is proclaiming the good news of Jesus Christ. It's not about eloquent words. It's supposed to be a demonstration of the spirit and of power when I am living my life and mm stewarding what I will begin to do that in the demonstration of spirit and power because I am operating under the authority of Jesus. Ephesians 2:10 we are all God's masterpieces and we are to walk in good works with God planned a long time ago. We'll just walk in them and we walk in them doing everything in the name of Jesus because Jesus in The King and I

Paul tells us where Jesus tells back at Matthew 28 that we are To Go Make Disciples again, this is right after he says all authority has been given to me now going. That's what we're supposed to do Go Make Disciples in our home in our neighborhood in our workplace in our community where we were supposed to go make disciples is what you are charged to do.

How are you doing?

Are you a faithful steward? start question, but

John Baptist new his role is world is a prepare the way for Jesus when he did that well.

When it was done. He's put in prison and martyred.

Sometimes when we do our assignment. It brings hardship. Sometimes it brings Joy.

But the key is that we remain faithful stewards.

Next week we get to celebrate Pat Esurance retirement. Go Patty.

Here's another example of the faithful steward. For 20 plus years served here the pastor Faithfully serving in her rule.

Yvonne Crossroads was in between pastors when Pastor Mark resigned and before I got here, she felt that she was supposed to take an extra step of responsibility and Authority in this transition time. She did that. She recognized the assignment that God has given her. Then when I came on staff, it wasn't too long after I came home Patty said to me for me to step back. I fulfill my role. And now I can step back because God has brought the next person here this step into this role. And as we know she's even stepping out of her role and her assignment on staff here at Crossroads or has that this is what I love about faster. That is already given her another assignment and she's headlong into that assignment. Her house is being transformed and our house is going to be a place to minister to people in need. Patty is the faithful steward. 3 thing that we need to know in order to be a faithful servant as I need to know that I'm not the only one.

Couple weeks ago we talked about you. All you all are the Temple of the Holy Spirit We're All in This Together.

Later on, we'll hit chapter 12 of 1st Corinthians people over Paul talks about the body and how each of us has a role in the body of Christ and each part is needed to stream that, as a result of this or what keeps you from Step extreme is that it's all about me. I'm the most important person and it is my decision and it's my leadership Authority and it's all about me. That's this one extreme. It gets us into trouble. The second is no I'm not good enough. I don't have any gifts or I've made too many bad mistakes my life. I screwed up way too many times. Both of these extremes are wrong. Because we're in this together. God has called me here for such a time as this to serve in this role. suffer ever Hold On Loosely God is called each one of you to a place here to serve and in other places of authority has put you into places of authority and influence and it's for such a time as it's not all about about you. We're in this together.

Everybody is just as important as everybody else.

The last thing real quickly know that I'm not the one to give reviews.

we did staff reviews a little while ago and somebody participated and that was really a good experience experience to have those reviews happen in their important, but sometimes people in the congregation But we want to review them according to our standards when we want to judge them. According to what we think is right and Paul here in chapter 4.

God is going to judge.

Jesus judges according to the heart we judge generally according to behaviors that is transactional leadership transactional leadership is are you doing it? Right? Are you behaving right? Jesus wants to know where your heart is because he knows it's sometimes often we fail we make mistakes.

And when the Messiah comes again.

Samantha

and he's going to judge us according to our motivation in our heart.

Islamic Waz in prison if some of his disciples come to him and they say there's some people who are proclaiming the good news and all they're trying to do is get their name out more important.

Pause the gospels being proclaimed.

What if We looked at all the churches around the world. And we stop judging their behavior. And we start asking the question. Are they proclaiming the good news of Jesus Christ? And we left Jesus.

show me challenge for us today in conclusion is this BSA so Stewart

the kingdom of God is here for you and I to serve the king that has our purpose that has our rule know your king. Know your assignment. Even you children you have assignments. You little kids you have assignments from God. It's not the singer when I get old enough and mature enough and then I can be a steward milk. No, no, no, no, no right now, right? Where you at? You are Stewart. Just love people. serve people care for people and when you get the opportunity to talk about Jesus. I know that you're not alone. You're part of the body. We're in this together.

And know that it is Jesus who judges your heart. the bus Hey, man.
