20 Then Martha, as soon as she heard that Jesus was coming, went and met him: but Mary sat still in the house. 21 Then said Martha unto Jesus, Lord, if thou hadst been here, my brother had not died. 22 But I know, that even now, whatsoever thou wilt ask of God, God will give it thee.
she could unroll the scrolls and tell you what it said
but Jesus was going to take all she learned and believe
about the Father and put it into himself..

25 Jesus said unto her, I am the resurrection, and the life: he that believeth in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live:
When God calls Himself the “I Am” in Exodus 3, it’s a pivotal moment in redemptive history. God reveal Himself to His people and comes to redeem them out of exile and lead them into a new life. God’s name discloses who He is and what He is like. He is the I Am, the eternal, unchanging, self-existent one, infinite and glorious in every way, and above and beyond all created things. He is God. When Jesus applies the title “I Am” to himself, he claims to be God (John 8:58). Not a helper to God or a great teacher, but the divine, eternal, pre-existent, infinite, perfect Being. He is Israel’s God. He is as much greater than Moses because he is the God of Moses. He has life in himself and he can give life to us.
Jesus does not say what He can do but who He is
I Am God
You say whatever you ask God will give
I Am God.
I formed Adam from the dust of the ground
I walked with Adam and Eve in the cool of the day
I dined with Abraham, on the eve of Sodom and Gomorrah
I spoke to Moses in the burning bush
I am the pillar by night cloud by day
I met Joshua in the shadow of Jericho
I spoke face to face with Gideon, told him he was a great man
I stood with mishak shadrack and abednego in the burning furnace
Martha’s theology just became personal
Dietrich Bonhoeffer, a german theologian
out of high school decided to pursue theology. studied in the university under the greats. but it was years later in an inner US city, black church, did he come face to face with Jesus, and become saved
also the the Wesley brothers. they went to the colonies as missionaries to teach the Bible, but it was after their return to England did they get saved.
Their theology became personal when they met Jesus, The I AM

25 Jesus said unto her, I am the resurrection, and the life: he that believeth in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live:
Genesis 1-3 the creation
The creation of man and woman, giving them life,
perfect, living in paradise
consequently the fall, life became death, spiritually, with physical following
for someone who is dead there has to be a resurrection for life
only God can resurrect
Here Jesus is saying He is the resurrection. not what He can do but who He is
He has come to undo what Adam did in the fall
there is no barrier with Jesus he can resurrect at any time
the last day does not have to be waited for
she does not have to rely on a theology book— when she has the one theology is written about
its always better to have a doctor than a medical book
When the enemy is death you want the one who conquered death on the cross
When you have Jesus you have life
Jesus wanted to bring the resurrection power from by and by— to now
Paul said
10 That I may know him, and the power of his resurrection, and the fellowship of his sufferings, being made conformable unto his death;
should that be our prayer?
to know the power of the resurrection?

again Jesus says Believe, put trust in, turn from a theology to a person
don’t trust a book, trust in me, the book tells you about me
26 And whosoever liveth and believeth in me shall never die. Believest thou this?
we have to go into theology to understand this verse
Jesus is speaking spiritually here-
all are born dead
made alive, life is given to the one God chooses
then they have the ability to believe
someone dead cant make choices
1 And you He made alive, who were dead in trespasses and sins,
4 But God, who is rich in mercy, for his great love wherewith he loved us, 5 Even when we were dead in sins, hath quickened us together with Christ, (by grace ye are saved;)
8 For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:

Jesus asks Martha
26 And whosoever liveth and believeth in me shall never die. Believest thou this?
and her answer
27 She saith unto him, Yea, Lord: I believe that thou art the Christ, the Son of God, which should come into the world.
it’s the same question we all have to answer
do you believe the teachings of Jesus
do you believe Jesus is God?
do you believe Jesus is the resurrection?
Do you believe Jesus is the only source of life?
I believe in God, the Father almighty,
creator of heaven and earth.
I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord,
who was conceived by the Holy Spirit
and born of the virgin Mary.
He suffered under Pontius Pilate,
was crucified, died, and was buried;
he descended to hell.
The third day he rose again from the dead.
He ascended to heaven
and is seated at the right hand of God the Father almighty.
From there he will come to judge the living and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Spirit,
the holy catholic* church,
the communion of saints,
the forgiveness of sins,
the resurrection of the body,
and the life everlasting. Amen.
*that is, the true Christian church of all times and all places
Her response
yes Lord I believe
you are the Messiah
you are God
you come to the world
I don’t quite understand it yet
that should be our response
Jesus is the only way, there is no other
Theology without Jesus as its core is just book learning
But theology with Jesus is— life changing
