Live Above in His Power

Notes
Transcript
Ephesians 1:18–23 NASB95
I pray that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened, so that you will know what is the hope of His calling, what are the riches of the glory of His inheritance in the saints, and what is the surpassing greatness of His power toward us who believe. These are in accordance with the working of the strength of His might which He brought about in Christ, when He raised Him from the dead and seated Him at His right hand in the heavenly places, far above all rule and authority and power and dominion, and every name that is named, not only in this age but also in the one to come. And He put all things in subjection under His feet, and gave Him as head over all things to the church, which is His body, the fullness of Him who fills all in all.
EPHESIANS 1:18 -23 - (the heart regarded as having eyes looking out toward Christ)
(Paul writes to the church in Ephesus) “I PRAY that the eyes (as a gift of the Holy Spirit)(that eyes may be given in a new quality) (the eye is the symbol of intelligence) of your heart (the heart is “the core of life, which also includes the mind, as well as the inclination) maybe enlightened, (spiritual light is life) (God deals with us on the basis of our future, not our past.

1) so that you will know what is the hope of His calling (calling wherewith He has called you)-(called is an important word)(the word church is a combination of two Greek words that mean “called out”) “called by His grace”

(Aside- Paul wants us to understand the hope that is ours because of His calling
some callings offer no hope, but the calling we have in Christ assures us of a delightful future. The word “hope” in the Bible does not mean “hope so” like child hoping for a doll or a bike for Christmas. This hope carries with it “assurance for the future”. the believers hope is, the return of Jesus Christ for His church. When we were lost, we were “without hope” Eph 2:12, but in Jesus Christ, we have a “living hope” 1 Peter 1:3 that encourages us day by day. Don’t confuse prices and values.

2) what are the riches of the glory (Col 1:27) of His inheritance in the saints (the inheritance which He has in His saints)

3) what is the surpassing(exceeding) greatness of His power toward us who believe power toward us (example- the power needed and exerted to make us believe and as was needed and exerted to raise Christ from the dead)

“THESE” (the 3 above)
“ARE”
“in accordance with the working of the strength of His might” ( might and right- to a great height of power) (power personified in Christ Jesus)
“which He brought about in Christ,”(power personified in Christ Jesus)
“when He raised Him from the dead and seated Him at His right hand in the heavenly places.” (where He remains till all His enemies have been put under His feet)
“far above all rule and authority and power and dominion,” (majestic scene of heaven)
“and every name that is named,”
“not only in this age but also in the one to come.”
Declaration: begin with And
(in addition to everything mentioned in the earlier verses here)

1)“He put all things in subjection under His feet” (put in subjection under)

2)”He gave Him as head over all things to the church”

What is the church? (His body spiritually,
“which is His body, (which is) the fullness of Him who fills all in all”
(The church - His life is is her life- Church shares His crucifixion and His subsequent glory. He possesses everything, His fellowship with the Father, His fulness of the Spirit, and His glorified manhood, not merely for Himself, but for her (the church) who has a membership of His body, of His flesh, and His bones) Eph 5:30
Amen
And He put all things in subjection under His feet, and gave Him as head over all things to the church, which is His body, the fullness of Him who fills all in all.(He fills all creation with whatever it possesses-)(The church is dwellt in and filled by Christ)
