Read James 1:12-15
There is a common theme in these first few verses of James 1

Trials and Temptations

Trials v1, 12 - peirasmos

Temptations v13-14 - peirazo

It is the same Greek root word.

So what is going on?

God allows Trials to Strengthen your Faith.

Our hearts and Satan offer Temptation to Sin.

What is a Trial?

A unwelcomed or unexpected experience.

Persecution, Sickness, Financial Loss, or Personal Loss

What is a Temptation?

A pull toward evil. A pull toward my way rather than God’s way.

A Strengthened Man v12

Is a man who remains steadfast. v12

steadfast - endurance, perseverance, continuance

Is a man who continues in His faith. James 1:2-4

James 1:2–4 ESV
2 Count it all joy, my brothers, when you meet trials of various kinds, 3 for you know that the testing of your faith produces steadfastness. 4 And let steadfastness have its full effect, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing.
Paul says commited to faith in Jesus Col 2:5
Colossians 2:5 ESV
5 For though I am absent in body, yet I am with you in spirit, rejoicing to see your good order and the firmness of your faith in Christ.
James 1:8 ESV
8 he is a double-minded man, unstable in all his ways.
Faith - believing trust in the character, plans and promises of God.

Is a man who stands the test.

He passed the test.

Is a man who is blessed. - He is in a good and fortunate position with God.

Is a man who will receive the crown of life. Revelation 2:10

Revelation 2:10 ESV
10 Do not fear what you are about to suffer. Behold, the devil is about to throw some of you into prison, that you may be tested, and for ten days you will have tribulation. Be faithful unto death, and I will give you the crown of life.
A Strengthened Man v12
1. Remains steadfast in the Trial.
2. Continues in his faith in Jesus.
3. Stands the Test.
4. Is Blessed
5. Receives the crown of life.

Job was A Strengthened Man.

A Sinful Man v13-15

Is a man that cannot blame God. v13

Satan offers temptation.
Satan is known at the Tempter.
Matthew 4:3 ESV
3 And the tempter came and said to him, “If you are the Son of God, command these stones to become loaves of bread.”
1 Thessalonians 3:5 ESV
5 For this reason, when I could bear it no longer, I sent to learn about your faith, for fear that somehow the tempter had tempted you and our labor would be in vain.

Is a man who gives in to his own desire. v14

Our hearts offer temptation.

Is a man who will die. v15

We are all sinners.
Romans 3:23 ESV
23 for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,

The Strongest Man - Heb 4:14-15

Hebrews 4:14–15 ESV
14 Since then we have a great high priest who has passed through the heavens, Jesus, the Son of God, let us hold fast our confession. 15 For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but one who in every respect has been tempted as we are, yet without sin.

Come to Him - Heb 4:16
