Opening

This morning we continue our walk through the book of Ephesians. If you remember from last week we talk about the fact that it is believed that the book of Ephesians was not necessarily written to just those living in Ephesus but that it was what is known as a circular, a book written to churches in the nearby area. While we don’t know that for sure what we do know from biblical perspective is that Paul spent several years in this place called Ephesus and when he left there he left Timothy to continue the work of the gospel there. Also, if you remember from last week we talked about the people of Ephesus or the Ephesian church not just being mentioned here are written about here but it is found to be mentioned in Acts, 1 Corinthians, and one of the churches mentioned in the book of Revelation.
This morning I want to share with you some more information about what was going on during the time of Paul’s ministry and message to the church then. I am not sure if you have heard the word Gnosticism. Let me define that word for you this morning because it will be important that you get a good insight to what Paul was facing as he was speaking and leading this church in Ephesus.
