HOOK

DO NOT FORGET TO UNMUTE
It’s MONDAY the 28th day of September
Last Thursday right here at “The Message”, we looked into the conversation between Peter, John and the crowd attending the prayer meeting at the temple— they explained to them the facts behind the healing of the beggar that was lame since birth [40 years]— and from it we learned:
JESUS IS THE AUTHOR OF LIFE
I AM TRANSFORMED BY HIS BLESSINGS
Now let’s see what happened after— open your Bible to ACTS 4:1-15— once you get there, type “let’s begin with chapter 4
When reading in advance, whenever you’re studying God’s Word— look for words that defines that CHARACTER of God, COMMANDS to obey, PROMISES to claim, good EXAMPLES to follow and bad examples to avoid, ENCOURAGEMENTS & CHALLENGES to keep you going, reasons to be THANK GOD for, PRAYERS to pray
READ ACTS 4:1-15

BOOK

Acts 4:1–15 NIV
1 The priests and the captain of the temple guard and the Sadducees came up to Peter and John while they were speaking to the people. 2 They were greatly disturbed because the apostles were teaching the people, proclaiming in Jesus the resurrection of the dead. 3 They seized Peter and John and, because it was evening, they put them in jail until the next day. 4 But many who heard the message believed; so the number of men who believed grew to about five thousand. 5 The next day the rulers, the elders and the teachers of the law met in Jerusalem. 6 Annas the high priest was there, and so were Caiaphas, John, Alexander and others of the high priest’s family. 7 They had Peter and John brought before them and began to question them: “By what power or what name did you do this?” 8 Then Peter, filled with the Holy Spirit, said to them: “Rulers and elders of the people! 9 If we are being called to account today for an act of kindness shown to a man who was lame and are being asked how he was healed, 10 then know this, you and all the people of Israel: It is by the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom you crucified but whom God raised from the dead, that this man stands before you healed. 11 Jesus is “ ‘the stone you builders rejected, which has become the cornerstone.’ 12 Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to mankind by which we must be saved.” 13 When they saw the courage of Peter and John and realized that they were unschooled, ordinary men, they were astonished and they took note that these men had been with Jesus. 14 But since they could see the man who had been healed standing there with them, there was nothing they could say. 15 So they ordered them to withdraw from the Sanhedrin and then conferred together.
WHAT: Peter and John was brought to the Sanhedrin [Jewish Ruling Council]
WHERE: Jerusalem
WHEN: After they healed the lame beggar—

WHY: The religious leaders tried to silence their message, they were not only disturbed but likely offended

LOOK

THEY SEIZED PETER AND JOHN, AND BECAUSE IT WAS EVENING, THEY PUT THEM IN JAIL
The prayer meeting was 3pm— the miraculous healing of the lame beggar happened around that time— then Peter spoke to the onlookers— so when they were accosted, it was probably almost dark
THE NUMBER OF MEN WHO BELIEVED GREW TO ABOUT FIVE THOUSAND
In that generation, they do not count women and children— so you could expect this number to swell if you include women and children
After the first sermon of Peter, around 3,000 were added to their number [ACTS 2:41]
BY WHAT POWER OR WHAT NAME DID YOU DO THIS
They asked them this question because they were disturbed and likely offended- for them this is usurpation of their authority
IT IS BY THE NAME OF JESUS CHRIST OF NAZARETH
Whom you crucified but whom God raised from the dead— the beggar was healed by the power and name of Jesus Christ— Peter used the opportunity of the proceedings to publicly proclaim the gospel
Peter added...
JESUS IS THE STONE YOU BUILDERS REJECTED, WHICH HAS BECOME THE CORNERSTONE
Peter quoted PSALM 118:22— Paul cited this in his letter to the church in Ephesus [EPHESIANS 2:20]— And Jesus also cited this psalm in MATTHEW 21:42
They did not accept Jesus as the Messiah, so they had him crucified based on the law of Moses [DEUTERONOMY 21:22-23]
Cornerstone is the most important stone used in constructing a building— needed to support the whole structure— Peter added..
SALVATION IS FOUND IN NO ONE ELSE
Salvation refers to deliverance from God’s wrath and to enjoyment of His favor
This is only given through faith in Jesus who grants new life to all who follow him and embrace the message of His death and resurrection for the forgiveness of their sins
They saw the courage of Peter and John— and since they could see that man who had been healed standing there with them, there was nothing they could say— so they ordered them to step out of the Sanhedrin so they confer with each other
