Walking in Victory

1 Peter 2:4–10 NKJV
4 Coming to Him as to a living stone, rejected indeed by men, but chosen by God and precious, 5 you also, as living stones, are being built up a spiritual house, a holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ. 6 Therefore it is also contained in the Scripture, Behold, I lay in Zion A chief cornerstone, elect, precious, And he who believes on Him will by no means be put to shame.” 7 Therefore, to you who believe, He is precious; but to those who are disobedient, “The stone which the builders rejected Has become the chief cornerstone,” 8 and “A stone of stumbling And a rock of offense.” They stumble, being disobedient to the word, to which they also were appointed. 9 But you are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, His own special people, that you may proclaim the praises of Him who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light; 10 who once were not a people but are now the people of God, who had not obtained mercy but now have obtained mercy.
Pro wrestling: Staged. The victor is already determined. But, the victor has to win over the crowd. As Christians we already have the victory, we can walk in victory. But, we have to win over the world. Not for entertainment, but as a witnesses to win them over to salvation. If we walk around like we are defeated we will never win them over.
Even when time are bad, we can walk in victory.
Peter, giving some encouraging words to his fellow Christians. (What we have looked at so far) They were scattered (heavy persecution) He reminded them; they were saved by grace; they saved and different; they saved and secure;
Having hope: Future hope; present hope; You can rejoice with great Joy
How great A Salvation: Salvation so great the prophets had to tell it; Salvation so great to apostles had to preach it; Salvation so great to angels has to see it; Salvation so great the devil could not prevent it.
Peter talk about living in holiness:
We are to love one another; We can because we have a spirit filled love.
Spiritual growth;
In these verse today, we are going to look at “Walking to victory” It’s about living a victorious life for God through His grace.
When the world is going crazy, the kids are going crazy, your family is going crazy, and your friends are going crazy there is a solid rock we can stand on that always has a firm foundation and cannot be shaken. This foundation is Jesus Christ and Him alone because He is the God that can open doors, close doors, and even remove doors and barriers in our lives.

We must continue to have a fellowship with Jesus (2:4-5).

1 Peter 2:4–5 NKJV
4 Coming to Him as to a living stone, rejected indeed by men, but chosen by God and precious, 5 you also, as living stones, are being built up a spiritual house, a holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ.
“Coming to Him” (Jesus) Not for salvation. This a continual coming to Him. It’s a close intimate association.
1. First, we must maintain a continuous fellowship with the Lord through reading His Word.
a. And in prayer. Prayer is the Christians greatest privilege, yet it is our biggest failure.
b. You can’t just call on God when there is a serious situation that arises in our lives. We should have been in continuous contact with Him in the first place.
c. Sin in our lives will always break your fellowship with the Lord, yet He is always faithful and ready to forgive you when you are serious about it.
“Living Stone”
Jesus is resurrection life. Jesus is eternal life.
2. Rejected by men.“to reject as the result of disapproval” He exposed their hypocrisy; and because He was not the kind of Messiah they wanted anyway. They then rejected Him and plotted His death.
“but chosen by God (the chosen one) and the precious” Precious in the sight of God. Precious: Great value, greatly loved or treasured by someone.
God would say, “this is my son in whom I am well pleased”
a. Knowing who Jesus is, and what He did for us should encourage to walk in victory.
1 Peter 2:5 NKJV
5 you also, as living stones, are being built up a spiritual house, a holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ.

And you yourselves also as living stones are being built up a spiritual house to be a priesthood that is holy, bringing up to God’s altars spiritual sacrifices which are acceptable to God through the mediatorship of Jesus Christ.

1. Now, notice He’s talking about a spiritual house, not a material house.
a. The church is alive because Jesus is alive. We build the church (spiritual house)
“a priesthood that is holy” Elab Priest of the O.T. And us today.
“to offer up spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ.”
b. We can have fellowship with Jesus because of the sacrifice that He made for us.
Romans 12:1–2 NKJV
1 I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service. 2 And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.

2. We must continually trust in Jesus (2:6-8).

1 Peter 2:6–8 NKJV
6 Therefore it is also contained in the Scripture, Behold, I lay in Zion A chief cornerstone, elect, precious, And he who believes on Him will by no means be put to shame.” 7 Therefore, to you who believe, He is precious; but to those who are disobedient, “The stone which the builders rejected Has become the chief cornerstone,” 8 and “A stone of stumbling And a rock of offense.” They stumble, being disobedient to the word, to which they also were appointed.
1. The cornerstone is the most important stone in a building. If this stone is straight the whole structure will be straight. Everything must line up with this stone in order for the building to be strong.
a. In a similar way, you and I are to build our lives on the foundation of Christ and to make sure that everything we do lines up with the Lord.
b. we must always trust in God even when we don’t see His hands at work. Many times God is working behind the scenes to accomplish His work in us and for us.
Proverbs 3:5–6 NKJV
5 Trust in the Lord with all your heart, And lean not on your own understanding; 6 In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He shall direct your paths.
c. God will always answer prayers with a yes, or no, and then sometimes a not yet, so He can get others in line or get you right for what you are asking.
d. If you don’t have trust in something, you want have victory.

We must maintain a witness for God (2:9-10).

1 Peter 2:9–10 NKJV
9 But you are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, His own special people, that you may proclaim the praises of Him who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light; 10 who once were not a people but are now the people of God, who had not obtained mercy but now have obtained mercy.
a. Chosen generation. While God chose Israel in the Old Testament and still has plans and purposes for them, He has chosen another group of people called Christians who make up the church.
b. Royal priesthood. The word “royal” means, “belonging to the king”
c. That means that you don’t need a priest to get to God.
d. A holy nation. New life in Christ means that we become citizens in a new nation in allegiance to King Jesus.
e. His own special people. This literally means, “A people for His own possession.” We are God’s very own.
f. Called out of darkness into His marvelous light.
Ephesians 5:8 NKJV
8 For you were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Walk as children of light
Obtained mercy. Aren’t you thankful for God’s mercy today?
Because of all of this, how can we not but respond with wholehearted worship? Look at verse 9: “that you may proclaim the praises of Him…”
1. We must continue to witness to our children, family, neighbors, and the rest of the world about how Jesus changed our lives and made us better and stronger.
a. This is why we must build our lives on that solid foundation that Jesus has already laid for all of us so when the storms of life come rolling in we will be able to stand strong in the Lord.
Walking in Victory
1. We must continue to have a fellowship with Jesus (2:4-5).
