A believer in Christ is not in bondage to his or her sin the way they used to be. They may be compelled to go back to the old ways, but they are not in bondage to them. Freedom is found in Jesus Christ, and there is freedom available for you.

Galatians 4:8-11

Galatians 4:8–11 ESV
8 Formerly, when you did not know God, you were enslaved to those that by nature are not gods. 9 But now that you have come to know God, or rather to be known by God, how can you turn back again to the weak and worthless elementary principles of the world, whose slaves you want to be once more? 10 You observe days and months and seasons and years! 11 I am afraid I may have labored over you in vain.

Why do we choose bondage?
ignorance/apathy
cultural norms

Sources of Sinful tendencies

[Pull] from without
satanic/demonic attack or influence
discouragement
joy-stealing
[Pull] from within
drawn away by our own lusts- James 1:14
response to broken foundations, childhood hurts, skewed worldviews
chicken pan, house of clamor
worldviews about: roles of men and women, sex, alcohol, money, etc.

Difference between compulsion and bondage

physical, emotional, mental, spiritual BONDAGE. prison cell with closed door
out of our control, don’t understand the source, or how to escape
compulsion- feeling compelled but not bound. prison cell with an open door
Christ has/can delivered us from the bondage
