1 Kings 19:1–4 NKJV
And Ahab told Jezebel all that Elijah had done, also how he had executed all the prophets with the sword. Then Jezebel sent a messenger to Elijah, saying, “So let the gods do to me, and more also, if I do not make your life as the life of one of them by tomorrow about this time.” And when he saw that, he arose and ran for his life, and went to Beersheba, which belongs to Judah, and left his servant there. But he himself went a day’s journey into the wilderness, and came and sat down under a broom tree. And he prayed that he might die, and said, “It is enough! Now, Lord, take my life, for I am no better than my fathers!”

Introduction:

We are coming to grips to the fact that life as we know it has changed. We are all struggling to adapt to new norms during the Covid-19 pandemic. We all are struggling trying to catch up and adjust to the new reality about current living conditions. Families and communities find themselves stretched to the limit and households trying to figure out the delicate balancing act up earning the income and educating your children at home. The combination of the pandemic social unrest, in the middle of a hotly contested presidential race. Some would say a perfect storm to bring our mighty nation to its knees.
On a political level the very foundation of our Constitution is being stressed to the limit. Environmental catastrophes are hitting the nation with unprecedented frequency. The nation is deeply divided and people of all communities all backgrounds or facing emotions like discouragement, despair, frustration and anger and host of other responses and emotions. All of this is taking its toll on the American family, on American businesses, and American ideals our health care system are being stretched to overflow limits this deadly virus it's still infecting and killing thousands of Americans people that we love are being forced to die alone. You and I and millions of others are sitting here with Elijah under the broom tree and asking ourselves the question, “How did we get here?”
I saw that same pain and frustration that we are experiencing right, I saw on display in the text. I believe that this text speaks to us today because I see in the text that in this moment the man of God, Elijah, I see us in him, I see our experiences played out in his life. I that Elijah knows what it's like to be disappointed he knows what it's like to be in despair. He knows what desperation feels like. Elijah is on the run, driven by panic and fear. He has given up on the ministry, given up on the assignment come running from his life from the Queen Jezebel and as he is sitting under that broom tree I can imagine he is thinking to himself how did get here?
Keep in mind that even though things may look dark now the good news is that is the longest the Lord is still on the throne we are sure that he is there for us to help meet our need and deliver us in times of despair and discouragement. Empowering us to conquer these crises in life facing every challenge not alone but with the law about outside. we have discovered that the Lord is faithful and he has kept us thus far and he is still able to save and deliver us.
