Purpose: To encourage people to hope for the coming of the Jesus.
Proposition: In Psalm 14 we see three reasons why we should hope for the coming of Jesus.
[Steve Doosey (Fox News Network) “Son, our building has been hit. See you in heaven. Love, Dad.”]

1. Because The Wicked are Wicked.

Psalm 14:1–3 NASB95
1 The fool has said in his heart, “There is no God.” They are corrupt, they have committed abominable deeds; There is no one who does good. 2 The Lord has looked down from heaven upon the sons of men To see if there are any who understand, Who seek after God. 3 They have all turned aside, together they have become corrupt; There is no one who does good, not even one.
“The fool has said in his heart…NO GOD.” This is the creed of atheism. Men may not say it openly, they may even say with their lips “I believe in Jesus Christ” but in their hearts they don’t. [visitation, the lady who watched John Edwards]. Despite what people say, what they do tells the real story. If you say you believe in Jesus but are involved in witchcraft or if you say you believe in Jesus but never read His Word or talk to him then you are saying in your heart “no God,” and the Bible says you are a fool.
They are corrupt. This word can also be translated “ruin.” We were created in God’s image. We were made perfect, in pristine condition, but because of our hearts, we have been ruined. We are spoiled like rancid meat that has been left on the road, full of maggots. We are corrupt. Not a very pleasant picture of human kind is it?
Not only are they ruined themselves but they ruin other things as well. They have done abominable works. They take the life that God has given and they ruin it. They take the mind that God has given them and spoil it with all sorts evil thoughts. They find a neighbor and they ruin them. [Terrence Dickson of Bristol Penn. Locked in after robbing a house. Ate dry dog food and a case of pepsi that he found in the garage for 8 days. Then sued the homeowner for mental anguish and won a ½ a million $.]
God looks down from heaven much like He did at the time Babel where He looked down at the sons of men and saw their wickedness and had to confuse their language because they were not seeking God and left to themselves would have provoked God to judge them. But they have all turned aside every individual person has turned away from God and together as a group they have become corrupt. God can’t even find one. The NT commentary on these verses (Romans 3:9-18) is fascinating. Paul Makes the point that both Jews and Greeks are utterly sinful.
Romans 3:9–18 NASB95
9 What then? Are we better than they? Not at all; for we have already charged that both Jews and Greeks are all under sin; 10 as it is written, There is none righteous, not even one; 11 There is none who understands, There is none who seeks for God; 12 All have turned aside, together they have become useless; There is none who does good, There is not even one.” 13 Their throat is an open grave, With their tongues they keep deceiving,” The poison of asps is under their lips”; 14 Whose mouth is full of cursing and bitterness”; 15 Their feet are swift to shed blood, 16 Destruction and misery are in their paths, 17 And the path of peace they have not known.” 18 There is no fear of God before their eyes.”

2. Because The Righteous are Loved.

Psalm 14:4–6 NASB95
4 Do all the workers of wickedness not know, Who eat up my people as they eat bread, And do not call upon the Lord? 5 There they are in great dread, For God is with the righteous generation. 6 You would put to shame the counsel of the afflicted, But the Lord is his refuge.
Here David asks a hypothetical question. He says do these wicked people (that is, the ones persecute the righteous and refuse to call on God) really not understand that they are in such big trouble. Don’t they know that God is on the side of those who are righteous?
Romans 8:31 NASB95
31 What then shall we say to these things? If God is for us, who is against us?
You see God fights for His children and He will not forever allow them to be mistreated. He is their refuge and there will come a day when He will destroy our enemies and there on that day and forever more will the be in fear. But for those who are exposed to the light of God’s word and find that knowledge, they fear Him now. And that fear leads to repentance. [Charles Spurgeon, “Denying the existence of fire does not prevent its burning a man who is in it, so doubting the existence of God will not stop the Judge of all the earth from destroying the reel who breaks his laws.”]
The are in great dread - like the mockers of Noah when the rain began to fall, like Haman when Esther exposes she is a Jew to King Ahashuaris.
God loves those who are His. He is our refuge and our hope
Romans 8:22–23 NASB95
22 For we know that the whole creation groans and suffers the pains of childbirth together until now. 23 And not only this, but also we ourselves, having the first fruits of the Spirit, even we ourselves groan within ourselves, waiting eagerly for our adoption as sons, the redemption of our body.

3. Because Jesus has Come.

Psalm 14:7 NASB95
7 Oh, that the salvation of Israel would come out of Zion! When the Lord restores His captive people, Jacob will rejoice, Israel will be glad.
Between a and b of verse 7 there has passed now over 2000 years. David was looking for the salvation (Jesus Christ) to come. Jesus said I am the way the truth and the life. Luke 2:30 HE HAS COME!!!! And if He has come once won’t He come again? There will come a time when Jacob will rejoice and Israel will be glad. David saw all these events together as He looked into the future of prophesy, but we understand more clearly. He will return again set all things right in Israel once again. Sometimes we think that we don’t have much in common with the Jews, but we do. If we come into contact with them we need to let them know that we too long for the time when they will rejoice because they will be the rulers of a godly empire for a thousand years. But then make sure to tell them that the king of that empire is none other than Jesus.
2 Corinthians 3:12 NASB95
12 Therefore having such a hope, we use great boldness in our speech,
Hebrews 6:19 NASB95
19 This hope we have as an anchor of the soul, a hope both sure and steadfast and one which enters within the veil,
1 John 3:3 NASB95
3 And everyone who has this hope fixed on Him purifies himself, just as He is pure.
