Joshua 3:7-17

New International Version
7 And the Lord said to Joshua, “Today I will begin to exalt you in the eyes of all Israel, so they may know that I am with you as I was with Moses. 8 Tell the priests who carry the ark of the covenant: ‘When you reach the edge of the Jordan’s waters, go and stand in the river.’”9 Joshua said to the Israelites, “Come here and listen to the words of the Lord your God. 10 This is how you will know that the living God is among you and that he will certainly drive out before you the Canaanites, Hittites, Hivites, Perizzites, Girgashites, Amorites and Jebusites. 11 See, the ark of the covenant of the Lord of all the earth will go into the Jordan ahead of you. 12 Now then, choose twelve men from the tribes of Israel, one from each tribe. 13 And as soon as the priests who carry the ark of the Lord—the Lord of all the earth—set foot in the Jordan, its waters flowing downstream will be cut off and stand up in a heap.”14 So when the people broke camp to cross the Jordan, the priests carrying the ark of the covenant went ahead of them. 15 Now the Jordan is at flood stage all during harvest. Yet as soon as the priests who carried the ark reached the Jordan and their feet touched the water’s edge, 16 the water from upstream stopped flowing. It piled up in a heap a great distance away, at a town called Adam in the vicinity of Zarethan, while the water flowing down to the Sea of the Arabah (that is, the Dead Sea) was completely cut off. So the people crossed over opposite Jericho. 17 The priests who carried the ark of the covenant of the Lord stopped in the middle of the Jordan and stood on dry ground, while all Israel passed by until the whole nation had completed the crossing on dry ground.

Intro - Anti-thesis (the world view)
These are contrary points that you will disprove
Talking Point 1
- We are just like Billy we have become used to our routine of being, blessed and highly favored, running on in the name of Jesus.
- My mind is made up and won’t turn back.
- But when the real challenges begin to happen we start to doubt and wonder. Am I going to ‘make’ it this time.
- God may not solve this problem the same way he solved the last problem
- But he will see you through!
Talking Point 2

Intro - Thesis
(connect back to scripture storyline)
Recap the scripture story – retell and give the overview
As Israel is on the verge of entering the promised land and going through the anxiety of moving forward in uncertainty, the passage is about how God is taking them into the promised land to fulfill His will in them. But they must be obedient and to not let their past victories stand in their way. “we may need to change this.’
Proposition
- What is the claim? (relevance for today)
The scripture wants us to do (what?) move and march forward even if the way may seem uncertain.
The scripture wants us to do this by (how?) We shall do it with obedience to God’s will and his way and walking in his presence.
The scripture wants us to take action towards who/what/whereby (to who?) We must move forward together and go into Caanan. God will remove the enemies from the path.
- What is the focus? (pull from your exegesis form)
This passage centers around moving forward in God’s presence and in spite of the circumstances.
________________________________________ which is the central, controlling and unifying theme of the sermon. One word here: follow God or walk in his presence. Following means that you are not by His side. When we follow. How far behind are. You.
__________ is the idea that drives the theme.

I our spiritual situation, we continually find our selves in the individual jordans and caanans. Jordan the struggle to get the caanan the struggle to remain faithful while in the promised land
- What is the function?
The hearers will be change by the message because_they will realize that in our walk we have continual jordan’s and caanans.
As a result, they will ______________ differently
They will stop sitting in one place and resting. The are many Jordan situations that you will experience in life.
People don’t realize that: We have continual life challenges but God is present with us. He desires that we cross over with Him and will all of use together.
They will have revelation ah, a-ha, moment about ________________________________________

Point 3 – Walking together

14 So when the people broke camp to cross the Jordan, the priests carrying the ark of the covenant went ahead of them. 15 Now the Jordan is at flood stage all during harvest. Yet as soon as the priests who carried the ark reached the Jordan and their feet touched the water’s edge, 16 the water from upstream stopped flowing. ***try to develop two subpoints for each point…
Point 3 - Subpoint 1- Title…. Talking Point 1
- Re-count what happens
- Waters goes dry
- They walk across on dry land
- Big deal—we have seen this before
Point 3 - Subpoint 2- Title…. Talking Point 1
- Pastor. This is a re-run. I’ve seen this before. The Israelites walk across the water. It’s same old story.
- But we must lest WE miss the message.
- This is not the same crossing.
- God parted the sea for them to escape captivity.
- This time God requires Isreal to do something.
- This crossing is more difficult.
- Be Caanan is on the other side.
- This crossing is more difficult. But grandma has passed away. You can’t ask her what to do.
- This crossing requires to recognize God’s presence.
- Sometimes that victory you had in the past can cloud your way and not allow you to see how God is going to work this situation out now.
Talking Point 2
- Last time he was trying to free you
- Last time he was trying to save you
- But when you cross into the promised land. God says I’m going do to a new thing.
- God says I’m going to prepare the way to remove your enemies.
- Before you cross into canaan choose your leaders wisely AND be a good leader
- Know that this time might be harder but I’ll still be with you.

Illustration closing/celebration

- Billy begins to panic this thinks that surely there is no way he could make it.
- But he thought I’ve been flying all these years. I’ve made it through time and time again. I’ve been through the storm and the rain. Sickness, Even ben on a plane that was struck by lightnight. God how are you going to get me through this.
- But what Billy did not know. There He was “present” with someone that would get him through.
It was Chesley Burnett "Sully" Sullenberger III
You probably know his the pilot Captain Sully.
On January 15, 2009, US Airways Flight 1549, an Airbus A320 on a flight from New York City's LaGuardia Airport to Charlotte, North Carolina, struck a flock of birds shortly after take-off, losing all engine power
(comment hear – on you lose power but God has another plan).
Unable to reach any airport for an emergency landing, pilots Chesley Sullenberger – Captain sully realize that He did not have power but that the plane because of the wing design. The wings were design will let your glide.
He knew if he just held the plan in place. If he just to allow the wing design to keep the plane position.
It would be enough for him to glide the plane to safety.

Supporting Scripture

Isaiah 40:31
but those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.
glided the plane to a ditching in the Hudson River off Midtown Manhattan.[1] All 155 people on board were rescued by nearby boats, with few serious injuries.
This water landing of a powerless jet liner became known as the "Miracle on the Hudson",[2] and a National Transportation Safety Board official described it as "the most successful ditching in aviation history".[3] The Board rejected the notion that the pilot could have avoided ditching by returning to LaGuardia or diverting to nearby Teterboro Airport.
