What Does The Bible Say?
Matthew 3, John 1, Matthew 11
13 Then Jesus went from Galilee to the Jordan River to be baptized by John. 14 But John tried to talk him out of it. “I am the one who needs to be baptized by you,” he said, “so why are you coming to me?” 15 But Jesus said, “It should be done, for we must carry out all that God requires.” So John agreed to baptize him. 16 After his baptism, as Jesus came up out of the water, the heavens were opened and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and settling on him. 17 And a voice from heaven said, “This is my dearly loved Son, who brings me great joy.” (Matthew 3:13–17 NLT)
God the Father is the first one to identify Jesus.
29 The next day John saw Jesus coming toward him and said, “Look! The Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world! (John 1:29 NLT)
35 The following day John was again standing with two of his disciples. 36 As Jesus walked by, John looked at him and declared, “Look! There is the Lamb of God!” (John 1:35–36 NLT)
Jesus is the ultimate Lamb who was slain for our sins.
25 The woman said, “I know the Messiah is coming—the one who is called Christ. When he comes, he will explain everything to us.” 26 Then Jesus told her, “I Am the Messiah!” (John 1:35–36 NLT)
You either follow or hate Jesus because He claimed to be God.
When Jesus had finished giving these instructions to his twelve disciples, he went out to teach and preach in towns throughout the region. 2 John the Baptist, who was in prison, heard about all the things the Messiah was doing. So he sent his disciples to ask Jesus, 3 “Are you the Messiah we’ve been expecting, or should we keep looking for someone else?” 4 Jesus told them, “Go back to John and tell him what you have heard and seen—5 the blind see, the lame walk, those with leprosy are cured, the deaf hear, the dead are raised to life, and the Good News is being preached to the poor.” 6 And he added, “God blesses those who do not fall away because of me.” (Matthew 11:1-6 NLT)
We follow Jesus because of the historical evidence.
How Can You Obey?
Live your life knowing Jesus is the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world!
Question 1 of 5
At the baptism of Jesus (Matthew 3:13-17), what did the people see and hear and how did this clarify who Jesus was?
Question 2 of 5
How does knowing Scripture help us battle against daily temptations? What is a verse that you rely on often?
Question 3 of 5
As Jesus called people to follow Him, many immediately invited someone else to meet the Savior. Who has God placed in your life that you would like to invite to know Jesus? Please give us a name, so that all of us can pray for this person to receive Christ.
Question 4 of 5
Jesus told the woman at the well that God looks for people who will worship the Father in spirit and in truth (John 4:21-24). What helps you connect with God the Holy Spirit? What helps you grow more authentic and truthful as you worship?
Question 5 of 5
Jesus sought out quiet places where He could meet with the Father face-to-face (see Mark 1:35). Why is it important that Christians today make regular time to be quiet before God?
