What Does The Bible Say?
Genesis 46 - Exodus 14
12 As the sun was going down, Abram fell into a deep sleep, and a terrifying darkness came down over him. 13 Then the Lord said to Abram, “You can be sure that your descendants will be strangers in a foreign land, where they will be oppressed as slaves for 400 years. 14 But I will punish the nation that enslaves them, and in the end they will come away with great wealth. (Genesis 15:12–14 NLT)
Big Picture: God is never surprised.
7 Then the Lord told him, “I have certainly seen the oppression of my people in Egypt. I have heard their cries of distress because of their harsh slave drivers. Yes, I am aware of their suffering. 8 So I have come down to rescue them from the power of the Egyptians and lead them out of Egypt into their own fertile and spacious land. It is a land flowing with milk and honey—the land where the Canaanites, Hittites, Amorites, Perizzites, Hivites, and Jebusites now live. 9 Look! The cry of the people of Israel has reached me, and I have seen how harshly the Egyptians abuse them. 10 Now go, for I am sending you to Pharaoh. You must lead my people Israel out of Egypt.” (Exodus 3:7–10 NLT)
God wants all of us to lead people to a life of purpose.
Again he said, "Peace be with you. As the Father has sent me, so I am sending you." (John 20:21 NLT)
God reveals three things to us:
13 But Moses protested, “If I go to the people of Israel and tell them, ‘The God of your ancestors has sent me to you,’ they will ask me, ‘What is his name?’ Then what should I tell them?” 14 God replied to Moses, “I Am Who I Am. Say this to the people of Israel: I Am has sent me to you.” 15 God also said to Moses, “Say this to the people of Israel: Yahweh, the God of your ancestors—the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob—has sent me to you.  (Exodus 3:13–15 NLT)
God’s name reveals His eternal nature.
16 So the Lord said to Moses, “Tell Aaron, ‘Raise your staff and strike the ground. The dust will turn into swarms of gnats throughout the land of Egypt.’ ” 17 So Moses and Aaron did just as the Lord had commanded them. When Aaron raised his hand and struck the ground with his staff, gnats infested the entire land, covering the Egyptians and their animals. All the dust in the land of Egypt turned into gnats. 18 Pharaoh’s magicians tried to do the same thing with their secret arts, but this time they failed. And the gnats covered everyone, people and animals alike.19 “This is the finger of God!” the magicians exclaimed to Pharaoh. But Pharaoh’s heart remained hard. He wouldn’t listen to them, just as the Lord had predicted.  (Exodus 8:16–19 NLT)
God’s Actions reveals His power.
(Exodus 7-13)
3 Announce to the whole community of Israel that on the tenth day of this month each family must choose a lamb or a young goat for a sacrifice, one animal for each household… 5 The animal you select must be a one-year-old male, either a sheep or a goat, with no defects. Then the whole assembly of the community of Israel must slaughter their lamb or young goat at twilight. 7 They are to take some of the blood and smear it on the sides and top of the door frames of the houses where they eat the animal. (Exodus 12:3, 5-7 NLT)
God last plague reveals His Divine Plan.
How Can You Obey:
24 On the way to Egypt, at a place where Moses and his family had stopped for the night, the Lord confronted him and was about to kill him. 25 But Moses’ wife, Zipporah, took a flint knife and circumcised her son. She touched his feet with the foreskin and said, “Now you are a bridegroom of blood to me.” 26 (When she said “a bridegroom of blood,” she was referring to the circumcision.) After that, the Lord left him alone. (Exodus 4:24–26 NLT)
Follow all of God’s commandments.
The Clue Of God’s Salvation: A lamb without defect was sacrificed for God to spare the firstborn child.
Moses said, “23 For the Lord will pass through the land to strike down the Egyptians. But when he sees the blood on the top and sides of the doorframe, the Lord will pass over your home. He will not permit his death angel to enter your house and strike you down.  (Exodus 12:23 NLT)
Look, the Lamb of God who takes away the sins of the world.  (John 1:29 NLT)
For Christ, our Passover lamb, has been sacrificed. (1 Corinthians 5:7 NLT)
Question 1 of 5
How did Moses see himself in his abilities and how did God see him (Exodus 4: 10-12)? Talk about a conversation you may have had with God and if it sounded something like the one Moses had in this passage.
Question 2 of 5
While God saw Moses as the perfect person to face pharaoh and speak the word of the Lord to the leader of Egypt, Moses saw himself as a political fugitive and a poor communicator who had no business facing the king. How does God see us one-way, but we see ourselves differently?
Question 3 of 5
What can we do to increase our ability to see ourselves from God’s perspective?
Question 4 of 5
What is the one area of your life where you tend to focus more on your limitations than God’s ability to work through you?
Question 5 of 5
How was the Passover (Exodus 12:1-24) an ancient sign of the death of Jesus on the cross being the final Lamb of God who will take away the sins of the world?
