In our Thanksgiving Series entitled “Thankful in Everything” we have look at so far the first two steps we are take toward being thankful in everything.
Step One: Worry about Nothing
Step Two: Pray about Everything
And this morning we will look at Step Three...
Philippians 4:6–7 NKJV
6 Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; 7 and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.
He says, "When you pray, pray with thanksgiving." Good News: "Always asking Him with a thankful heart." Whenever you pray, you should always pray with thanksgiving.

THIRD STEP: Thank God in All Things

There are great benefits in living a life of thankfulness. First,

Attitude of gratitude is a healthy life

Being thankful makes you more resistant to stress and less susceptible to illness. The attitude of gratitude is a healthy life style. Second,

Attitude of gratitude is a happier life

People who are grateful are happier more joyful people. But people who are ungrateful are miserable because nothing makes them happy. Ungratefulness smothers joyfulness.
They're never satisfied. It's never good enough. So if you cultivate the attitude of gratitude in being thankful in everything, it reduces stress in your life and it makes you happier in your circumstances.
We started off this morning with an old song, "Count Your Blessing, Name Them One By One." I think that's a good thing for you and I to do. We need to all make a list. I did yesterday. I sat down and made a list of things I was grateful for - my wife, my kids, they all know the Lord.
Be thankful in all things.
1 Thessalonians 5:18 NKJV
18 in everything give thanks; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.
"Give thanks in all circumstances for this is God's will for you in Christ Jesus." See that word "in". That's one of the most important words to keep you from misinterpreting this verse. It does not say "Give thanks for every circumstance."
In every circumstance, no matter how bad it is, you can give thanks to God because
1.) I know He has a purpose bigger than the problem
Romans 8:28 NKJV
28 And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose.
2.) He will give me the power to overcome the problem
Matthew 19:26 NKJV
26 But Jesus looked at them and said to them, “With men this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.”
3.) I will grow through the experience if I allow it to help me grow.
Romans 5:3–5 NKJV
3 And not only that, but we also glory in tribulations, knowing that tribulation produces perseverance; 4 and perseverance, character; and character, hope. 5 Now hope does not disappoint, because the love of God has been poured out in our hearts by the Holy Spirit who was given to us.
In every circumstance give Thanks because I know God is greater than the problem. Stop looking at what is lost and start looking at what is left…
This week we're celebrating Thanksgiving. Thanksgiving is a life style we live, not just a day that we celebrate once a year. I worry about nothing. I pray about everything. I give thanks in all things.
