The ATTITUDE of Prayer

AFFECTS in prayer

Jesus rose early in the morning, often before daybreak, to communicate with His Father. In the evening He would go to some quiet spot to pray, usually alone. Prayer was the spiritual air that Jesus breathed every day of His life. He practiced an unending communion between Himself and the Father

AWARENESS in prayer

We should look for those things they ought to be praying about.

ALERTNESS in prayer

Paul taught in Colossians 4:2 and Ephesians 6:18 to be encompasses more than mere physical alertness, however.

Be ADAMANT in prayer

We are inclined to pray intently, specifically, and persistently. But Paul says we are to always pray that way, and to “be on the alert with all perseverance” (Eph. 6:18).

AUTHORITY in prayer

To pray in the Spirit is to pray in complete agreement with the Spirit, who “helps our weakness; for we do not know how to pray as we should, but the Spirit Himself intercedes for us with groanings too deep for words [real words unuttered, not non-words uttered]; and He who searches the hearts knows what the mind of the Spirit is, because He intercedes for the saints according to the will of God”
2 Chronicles 7:14 NKJV
14 if My people who are called by My name will humble themselves, and pray and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land.
14 If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.

PRAY WITH HUMILITY

14 If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves
Psalm 138:6 NKJV
6 Though the Lord is on high, Yet He regards the lowly; But the proud He knows from afar.
(KJV 1900)
6 Though the Lord be high, yet hath he respect unto the lowly: But the proud he knoweth afar off.

PRAY WITH ALL YOUR HEART

14 If my people, which are called by my name shall . . . seek my face
Jeremiah 29:13 NKJV
13 And you will seek Me and find Me, when you search for Me with all your heart.
And ye shall seek me, and find me, when ye shall search for me with all your heart.

PRAY IN RIGHTEOUSNESS

14 If my people, which are called by my name, shall . . . turn from their wicked ways
Proverbs 15:29 NKJV
29 The Lord is far from the wicked, But He hears the prayer of the righteous.
The Lord is far from the wicked: But he heareth the prayer of the righteous.
James 5:16 NKJV
16 Confess your trespasses to one another, and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The effective, fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much.
Confess your faults one to another, and pray one for another, that ye may be healed. The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much.

PRAY WITH IN OBEDIENCE

1 John 3:22 NKJV
22 And whatever we ask we receive from Him, because we keep His commandments and do those things that are pleasing in His sight.
And whatsoever we ask, we receive of him, because we keep his commandments, and do those things that are pleasing in his sight.

Pray according to the WILL OF GOD

Matthew 6:10 NKJV
10 Your kingdom come. Your will be done On earth as it is in heaven.
Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven.
1 John 5:14 NKJV
14 Now this is the confidence that we have in Him, that if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us.
And this is the confidence that we have in him, that, if we ask any thing according to his will, he heareth us:

Praying according to the WILL OF GOD is also called praying in THE NAME OF JESUS

John 14:14 NKJV
14 If you ask anything in My name, I will do it.
If ye shall ask any thing in my name, I will do it.
John 15:7 NKJV
7 If you abide in Me, and My words abide in you, you will ask what you desire, and it shall be done for you.
If ye abide in me, and my words abide in you, ye shall ask what ye will, and it shall be done unto you.

What is God’s will according to the Scriptures?

TO BE SAVED

2 Peter 3:9 NKJV
9 The Lord is not slack concerning His promise, as some count slackness, but is longsuffering toward us, not willing that any should perish but that all should come to repentance.
The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.

TO BE THANKFUL

1 Thessalonians 5:18 NKJV
18 in everything give thanks; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.
In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.

TO SUFFER FOR HIM

1 Peter 3:17 NKJV
17 For it is better, if it is the will of God, to suffer for doing good than for doing evil.
For it is better, if the will of God be so, that ye suffer for well doing, than for evil doing.
1 Peter 4:19 NKJV
19 Therefore let those who suffer according to the will of God commit their souls to Him in doing good, as to a faithful Creator.
Wherefore let them that suffer according to the will of God commit the keeping of their souls to him in well doing, as unto a faithful Creator.

TO BE SUBMISSIVE

1 Peter 2:13 NKJV
13 Therefore submit yourselves to every ordinance of man for the Lord’s sake, whether to the king as supreme,
Submit yourselves to every ordinance of man for the Lord’s sake: whether it be to the king, as supreme;

TO BE SANCTIFIED

1 Thessalonians 4:3–4 NKJV
3 For this is the will of God, your sanctification: that you should abstain from sexual immorality; 4 that each of you should know how to possess his own vessel in sanctification and honor,
3 For this is the will of God, even your sanctification, that ye should abstain from fornication:
4 That every one of you should know how to possess his vessel in sanctification and honour;

TO BE SPIRIT-FILLED

Ephesians 5:17–19 NKJV
17 Therefore do not be unwise, but understand what the will of the Lord is. 18 And do not be drunk with wine, in which is dissipation; but be filled with the Spirit, 19 speaking to one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord,
17 Wherefore be ye not unwise, but understanding what the will of the Lord is.
18 And be not drunk with wine, wherein is excess; but be filled with the Spirit;
19 Speaking to yourselves in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord;

The HOLY SPIRIT and prayer

1 Corinthians 2:9–10 NKJV
9 But as it is written: “Eye has not seen, nor ear heard, Nor have entered into the heart of man The things which God has prepared for those who love Him.” 10 But God has revealed them to us through His Spirit. For the Spirit searches all things, yes, the deep things of God.
9 But as it is written, Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him.
10 But God hath revealed them unto us by his Spirit: for the Spirit searcheth all things, yea, the deep things of God.
Romans 8:26–27 NKJV
26 Likewise the Spirit also helps in our weaknesses. For we do not know what we should pray for as we ought, but the Spirit Himself makes intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered. 27 Now He who searches the hearts knows what the mind of the Spirit is, because He makes intercession for the saints according to the will of God.
26 Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered.
27 And he that searcheth the hearts knoweth what is the mind of the Spirit, because he maketh intercession for the saints according to the will of God.
