God With A Mission

Question: “Where does God fit into the story of my life?”

However, the question should be asked, “Where does my little life fit into the great story of God’s mission?”
Bible Teaching:

God Missional Activities: from Creation to redemption of the whole of Creation (a new heaven and a new earth);

Christopher J. H. Wright, “An Upside-Down World: Distinguishing between Home and Mission Field No Longer Makes Sense,” Christianity Today 51, no. 1 (2007): 45.

Humanity with a mission (to rule and care for the earth); Israel with a mission (to be the agent of God’s blessing to all nations);

Jesus with a mission (to embody and fulfill the mission of Israel, bringing blessing to the nations through bearing our sin on the Cross and anticipating the new Creation in his Resurrection);

church with a mission (to participate with God in the ingathering of the nations in fulfillment of Old Testament Scriptures)."

Missional Text: John 20:21; 1 Pet 2:9-10; 3 John 1; Matt 28:19-20

John 20:21 (ESV) 21Jesus said to them again, “Peace be with you. As the Father has sent me, even so I am sending you.”
1 Peter 2:9–10 (ESV) 9But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for his own possession, that you may proclaim the excellencies of him who called you out of darkness into his marvelous light.
10Once you were not a people, but now you are God’s people; once you had not received mercy, but now you have received mercy.
3 John 5–6 (ESV) 5Beloved, it is a faithful thing you do in all your efforts for these brothers, strangers as they are, 6who testified to your love before the church. You will do well to send them on their journey in a manner worthy of God.
Matthew 28:19–20 (ESV) 19Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.”

“When the church is in mission, it is the true church”
