Elizabeth is an interesting figure in the story of Jesus. Her pregnancy was itself miraculous considering her age and in three different sections of Luke 1, we discover that she operates in the background, always in the shadow of others. Where does joy fit into this picture at all? When Jesus arrived! Because she was righteous and obedient, and though her life was one of reproach and disgrace among people, she was positioned to receive great joy!
